the thread about nothing...

pssh, im confident this thread doesn't last too long now that ya:

can't ask for music or post any (music thread)

can't discuss sports ( sports thread)

can't discuss phones (iphone & android threads)
nh's plan didn't work and now he's

If you have friends you want to follow, user the follow function on their profile page.  So, if someone shares similar musical taste you can easily keep up with what they post in the music forum that way.

You can also post links to OTHER THREADS in here if you want.  I don't really mind that.

There are valid reasons for worrying about this thread (impact on the forum at large) and there are invalid reasons for worrying about this thread (personal grudge, pet peeve, etc.)

If this thread continues on and enhances, rather than detracts from, the community at large, you shouldn't begrudge that and if you intend to sit around and heckle this thread then you'll be the first one on the restricted list.

I think it's fair to say that your attempts to turn General into 'A Current Affair' this week didn't exactly blow anyone away.  Some new random topics were added, however, and the world certainly didn't end just because "the thread about nothing" was suspended.  What that tells me is that we should be able to make the majority of users happy with a little fine tuning.  It shouldn't be "a board within a board."  It shouldn't detract from discussions that already exist or prevent worthwhile topics from being created.

Some users, it seems, were self-conscious about creating a new thread of their own for fear that it wouldn't get a great reception and decided to float the idea here, instead, where having a post ignored is like having a Tweet ignored.  We don't solve that by shutting down this thread, we solve that by removing all the wannabe comedians and jerks who feel the need to try and attack anyone who posts something they don't like.  (e.g. all the "cool story, bro" crap.)  If the forums were friendlier, people would risk hitting "new topic" a bit more.

It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness.  Rather than complain, everyone can help on those fronts by better supporting users who contribute positively to the forums and by reporting users who don't contribute.

There should be a clear cost associated with heckling.  If users didn't feel that it enhanced their status and amused others, they wouldn't do it.  Support users who do positive things.  Discourage negative behavior.  It's not rocket science.

fair enough

can we get him banned from this thread though? :nerd:

The week-long experiment has concluded and I'd say the results have been a mixed bag.

As promised, we'll reopen the thread - but in order to keep it open thread participants must make a concerted effort to better care for the thread and ensure that it remains, ironically enough, on topic.

In other words:

1)  nothing should be posted in here that doesn't belong in the General forum.
2)  nothing should be posted in here that violates the rules (discussing porn, drugs, piracy, etc.)
]3)  nothing should be posted in here that belongs in a different thread or deserves a separate thread.

There's a balance that must be struck in order to maintain this thread and it'll be up to everyone to help us reach that balance so that we can satisfy as many of our fellow community members as possible.
pssh, im confident this thread doesn't last too long now that ya:

References & mentions =/= discussions

I think that's the biggest thing you missed when you were on your crusade against this thread.

"Cruel Summer was pretty underwhelming to me" isn't the same as a response like this, which is fairly common in the music forum:
I just can't believe that these are the only tracks they have worked on in 24 months.

This can't be it. These are so far below Kanye's usual standards for music, well at least the old Kanye. The new Kanye apparently doesn't care anymore.

I wasn't expecting the world, i really wasn't...but c'mon guys, this is not a good album. I like Clique, great single, I liked Mercy...it was a solid single. New God Flow is nice, The Morning is nice...

that's all that is memorable. Yeah some of the other tracks might have a nice part here and there, but as a whole nothing else stands out.

Look at the names in good music. LOOK AT THEM. COMMON, KANYE, JOHN LEGEND, KID CUDI, ETC...i mean these guys are TALENTED.

Yeah this may not be 'that bad'...but since when is 'not that bad' acceptable for this amount of talent?

If we're not going to get GREAT from them, at least hit us with GOOD. Pun intended. This is not a G.O.O.D Album. :smh:

Just as something like "Fining players for flopping won't do anything" isn't the same as:
Meh, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm willing to bet ill still see flopping on a nightly basis. Or see some nobody get called for it while Wade still gets away with kicking people in the balls.
Remember when they league said they were going to be more strict with players arguing and T em up right away. That lasted what, a whole week.

Point is this thread is mostly referencing the little things that could possibly be deemed insignificant and wouldn't make sense to start threads about. So if someone wants to mention a Rick Ross song or whatever, they should be able to. But if they want to discuss something about it other than "it's a hot song", more than likely they'll head to the music forum for that.

McKayala looks so much like my ex for years back in this photo dawg..
Without TAN I wouldnt have known who this was or why she was was making this face. WhyHelloThere posted a pic of her doing the face from the Olympics next to this rabbit (which was hilarious, please post it again WHT) and then I asked who it was and I was informed.

hardly, meth already told ya can't post thread worthy topics up in here and dry up da rest of da forums.

he basically castrated what ya was doing before, my coalition strong enough as well as my points that i wont be surprised if multiple replies in this

thread get deleted.

da way i see it, all ya gonna be doin up in here is gif swapin, and wit da extra security up in this thread now, i expect this to be a "fish in a barrel" for da banz

As far as guidelines are concerned, we already have them.  Our forum rules apply to this thread.  If something doesn't belong in General, it doesn't belong here.  There should also be a stronger effort to ensure that "thread-worthy" discussions are separate threads.  There's no reason that can't happen.
yea...ya tan cats is like a club without a liquor license & no DJ

edit, meth already stated everything i said and im gonna say for tonight.

Moving on, from my understanding, the issue was never one of posting music videos of the occasionally vent about a sporting event.

The problem was when y'all made mini discussion threads out of what was supposed to be a random thought.

Meth, please correct me if I am wrong, but we should be able to post about a song we like, and keep it moving--if it's a genuine "random" drop. Don't, however, start having a discussion, complemented by several more songs, in the same vain as the original drop. When we do this, then we're no longer keeping in line with the thread topic--which is one about nothing--and are instead making this a thread about something, which is technically against the rules.

Same goes for sports. Let's not get caught up in the moment in here, though I can understand it being difficult.

We should also be proactive in regulating each other and this thread, that way we can keep da pathetic haters out.
