the thread about nothing...

I don’t drink a lot - until not too long ago not at all - but recently I discovered rum and that’s pretty tasty. A company I send some work to recently sent a link saying as a thank you log in to your website account and select a gift - they were all bottles of whisky, gin etc, and all looked good quality. I chose the rum and it arrived a few days ago. I looked it up and it’s $100 a bottle!

Just trying it for the first time and it’s decent - but would I choose it over 3 bottles of the stuff I’ve bought from the top shelf in my local supermarket? Probably not.

Nice to try though because I’d never buy it for myself.

Man....my two nephews can never say they never got Christmas gifts. I just counted 17 for each one. Action figures, t-shirts, video games, record albums, shoes. Lucky them. I used to get 3-4 from all my relatives put together

bro, i feel you. growing up in an immigrant asian/buddhist household, my parents had no concept of what chirstmas was. in the late 80s and 90s. i remember going back to school after winter break and being hella jealous of all the toys/games the homies got. next generation aint gonna know that pain

how do you feel about charter schools in general?

I worked at a charter HS for 5 years and it was probably one of the best learning and growing experiences of my career thus far. got an opportunity to wear a couple different hats and connect with students and families in a more in depth way.

however, looking at charters from a systemic level, i'm not a big fan of them. I had to walk away from the one i worked at because from a moral and philosophical stand point, I felt at odds with myself. I couldn't continue to work at one if i felt like we needed to reinvest into comprehensive public schools. a big misconception is that charters are private, when in fact, they are public and thus funded by the same tax money that would be going into public K-12 schools. the overwhelming issue with them, however, is that they're ripe for exploitation and very little accountability (peep the terrible charter network that was basically running classrooms out of dilapidated dungeons and bullying its teachers). i think district schools have their own set of problems, that include mismanagement of funds and dinosaur teachers that need to go, but charter schools play on that narrative and then use it as a reason for why families shouldn't send their kids to general public schools. I'm starting to see how charters in oakland are impacting and destabilizing the large high schools out here by tapping into their funding pools.

if charter schools were the answer and magic pill, then new orleans students would be thriving. the city turned almost entirely charter after hurricane katrina..and 10+ years later, it's not producing significantly better results.

my bad for the long rant.

Bro that was the worst. All my classmates were flashing their stuff out in the open during class, even bringing unopened Nintendo games
My parents were just too broke to get all 3 of us the gifts we wanted but we still got 1 gift each. They tell me what their childhood Christmas’s were like and suddenly I felt better about mine.

Damn straight, these kids have it lots better. Me and my bro remind them to be humble and grateful though. Last thing we want is for them to become snobs at school.

My daughters friend’s parents are loaded, not all but a couple of them.

my daughter isn’t a snob at all but some of her friends are on another planet.

like their parents spend so much money training them to ride horses and other **** that doesn’t matter it blows my mind.

like why are you paying so much to let this girl barrel race when you know damn well if she wanted to go pro you’d say no and make her be a doctor like you?

I don’t get it.

im pretty bored today not gunna lie.

think ima start planning either solo trips or trips with the girl or friends for holidays, staying home is a blessing but man its boring

Interesting take up there about charter schools.

I worked at a charter school for about 1 year and thought it was amazing. The teachers were all really plugged in and cared for the students and so was the administration (principal / vp). The students were completely held accountable and every student was focused on. Saw almost unimaginable changes in reading levels for so many students in the one year span.

All good bro, you’re there to show your daughter the other side, the side that understands the struggle and hard work :pimp:
