Their point is although The Weeknd's music is amazing, he probably wouldn't have blown up without Drake introducing him to us.
I'm sure there are singers across the globe that can do what the Weeknd does and maybe even better, but haven't gotten the same oppurtunity.

Anyways, him and Drake are friends, and the tweet isn't that important. I wonder if any of them were fans of Common though.

As for the beginning of your comment...a MAJOR reason why Weeknd is buzzing is because of Drake. HOB took off when Drake put one of his tracks on his blog.

And the Weeknd is buzzing because the quality of the music is superior not because Drake cosigned him. That's that industry gaffle for you. Same thing happened with Drake. Anyone who thinks Drake wouldn't have been a huge star without the YMCMB cosign is kidding themselves. Sure the cosign opens up a few avenues but it's not the determining factor in whether or not someone will blow. When House of Balloons dropped everyone was promoting dude via word of mouth. Sure Drake may have opened up a few eyes and ears by virtue of his popularity but people didn't buy in because of a Drake cosign, they bought in because the music is great.

We can agree to disagree here. Like I said...he gave his opinion on the matter through one sentence on a social network. What's the difference between you or I tweeting our opinion on the matter? If he wasn't affiliated with Drake...would you still have the same opinion? You are SERIOUSLY making it seem like a little %!% tweet is Weeknd "entering the battle" or something. It REALLY doesn't warrant this much commentary.

Noah ShebibAfter "one day it'll all make sense" came out I spent months arguing weather or not @common was hip hop. Everyone was saying it was too rnb. 

You can twist that to come up with your own interpretation of what he said...but it's as CLEAR as day that he didn't "question" whether Common was hip hop. And we can argue "what ifs" all day long...but the fact remains is that Drake gave them dudes a HUGE look with the co-sign and the whole XO camp has said as much. Like dude above said...it's a MILLION talented dudes out here who would rise to stardom with that kind of co-sign. Damn near EVERY review/article about HOB when it dropped noted that Drake helped bring awareness to dude. Certainly more than a "few" looks. And putting him on Take Care introduced him to an even bigger audience that hadn't heard HOB or Thursday. My @+!+@+$ 40 year old aunt blew my phone up asking me to send her his stuff after Crew Love was aired on the radio during her morning commute...when she isn't a part of the demographic that would be online checking for new artists. You can chalk up the co-sign as a minor thing if you want to. I'm out of this discussion. $%+**+ let their personal feelings of the artists interfere with rationality in these matters.

damn i was reading the thread backwards and thought son came out with a hit em up style diss at Common or something

there's like 3 threads on here with people arguing about the diss...why cant son throw his two cents in...its not like its classic material or something...

and at the end of the day the what ifs really dont matter and cant be proven....the two facts are Drake was spending all his Degrassi checks making music and trying to break into the industry and even had a major deal or two before YMCMB and never went anywhere...would he have gotten there eventually? who knows....same can be said for Weeknd

I have the word for word translation on my ipad i can post it when i get home.  Some one in the KTT forum translated it.  But I am not trying to fish through that 1800 page thread to find it.  Basically "I am not going to cry anymore"

You can make that seem like an insignificant thing if you want to...but it really isn't.
If you understand how the music industry works in this internet era then you know that was a MAJOR look. Perhaps it would have blown up over time...but dude blew up from the jump. 

Find me an artist in the past 5 years...that came from nowhere...and had THAT much acclaim on their first project without a major co-sign. 

HOB had like 100,000 downloads it's first week. Drake had NOTHING to do with that right? Not to mention shortly after that he co-branded an entire movement with dude.

I understand ya'll dudes hate Drake...but please...be rational.

And no one wants that in the beginning of their career cause now people are gonna say "The Weeknd makes good music but he hasn't done what Common done" when people can just say "The Weeknd makes good music".

Weeknd would be just as successful without Drake putting him on his blog. Major news sites/blogs were doing it way before Drake did it, so he didn't necessarily find a diamond in the rough.

Abel got something like 300k followers I think. One tiny tweet can reach a lot of people. Never mind the retweets and lurkers. I'm not disputing the severity of the statement. He didn't say anything crazy. But he did step out of line and insult a hip hop legend when he absolutely didn't have to. If Common chooses to throw him under the bus it's gonna be just like you said. If I'm Common and Drake responds, i'm bombin on everything 40, Weeknd, Drake, etc.

Even if Common disses The Weeknd, nobody'll give a #%@* and nobody'll stop listening. He's not some rapper that can just be replaced. That's a benefit of being so unique.
