To be clear, I’m not saying it’s impossible for NBA players to advance social causes from within the bubble; I just disagree strongly that the bubble is a better venue for social justice advocacy than players would have had available to them if they didn’t not forward with resuming the season in Orlando.

I hope they do they best they can on these things within the situation that’s been chosen.

Making use of that “broken” search function

Can we stop acting like the players going back “is an opportunity to amplify their voice for equality?”

The pure reason is money and a championship. IMO nothing is wrong in living your truth and going for that reason. However, to add social justice as a reason, is disingenuous. It’s more an excuse/justification at this point.

When the Kyrie smear campaign immediately started then within a week ALL talk about protesting the return disappeared, it was pretty clear about what time it was for players and the media

I understand the idea a lot of posters had about us being in a unprecedented moment in history with all of the protests and how basketball would be a distraction but unfortunately that moment has passed. From what I can tell the protests have quieted down so I would imagine (or at least hope) folks are finding other ways to channel their passion towards social justice. There’s also less mainstream media attention around social injustice as a whole which I’ve come to realize would be the case if the NBA returned or not.

So outside of not being able to attend protests (which seem to be waning in size, frequency and publicity), I think the platform is at worse neutral.

Apparently Trezz had to leave the bubble to attend to a family matter.

IMO this is a discussion where the hypothetical will always win. The battle against social injustice will not be won in a few months time so whatever decision they make it will be easy to look at the alternative and say “Well, if they would have gone this route, they could have done so much more.” The alternative of what they could have done may or not be true but it’s also worth asking would the end result differ which also plays into the hand of the hypothetical.

"Everybody has their own thoughts on how to affect change,” Temple said. “The main point is that everybody wants the same thing. Kyrie, myself, most of the black men in the NBA that are passionate about this — or if they weren’t passionate, most of them are now — we want the same thing. There are a lot of different ways to skin a cat.

“The conversations were actually those conversations: Thinking about what’s the way we can most utilize this extra push, these extra ears, and extra eyes that are on this situation. Everybody realized this is a little different than three or four years ago. The world was at a standstill, and this happened again; and because of the situation in terms of the pandemic, people have to watch. It’s the only thing that was going on.

“As black men, black people in America, this is an everyday struggle. So the way we can utilize those two or three months in Orlando to continue to push the narrative, to have it fresh on people’s minds, is something we can do in terms of keeping it on people’s minds. … We can really utilize our bubble and ESPN and Turner to help us push that narrative.”

In most of the major cities there are still protests going on daily. Just because the media isn't showing them anymore doesn't mean they aren't happening.

Maybe just maybe if some of the highest profile athletes in the world were able to participate in them; then maybe the media would.

No disrespect, but posts in which the "target" probably won't even see the post has always been funny to me.

I'll never understand it man

I know you heard of that Murder Mayhem DC instagram that posts all the murder victims. Never fails...someone that knows the person comes in the comments and gives these heartfelt super personal messages for everyone else to see.
