Must be nice. If my phone breaks the only phone I would get is that new Motorla one that costs $120.

For the price that phone really ain't bad at all.. it kind of looks booty juice cause the OnePlus is on godly levels for it's price.. but 120 for a fairly good phone off contract is pretty damb good, and it comes with 4.4.2 if I'm not mistaken. If I really needed a phone today, really badly, I'd jump all over that.

Wow reading through my m8 paperwork, it says if I crack my screen they will replace it free within 6 months..

Am I losing for having my S4 with factory settings? Hearing I should do some work on it. Learn me.

Rooting and modifying a phone is a lot like modding a car. It is more safe and may even add life to your phone if you keep it stock, just like a car. However, there is a great deal of opportunity when you begin the mod process. Your S4 will go from being just a S4 and it will become YOUR S4, with endless settings and options that you can choose from in order to make using your S4 a unique experience.

Are you losing? That's a matter of opinion. There are risks when rooting and flashing a custom ROM, so research. Then research some more. Then come back and ask questions. Then decide.

Superb bsing with that USAA back account. Dude is just flat out liar ....

Don't even worry about it

He offered me a minimum wage job... So I think we're homies now. :lol

To tell the truth I don't really feel the need to customize much. But I am kind of interested in getting rid of the bloatware and extending battery life. Will rooting do this for me?

Yes. Let me give you a quick run down of vocab.

Root/Rooting - Rooting an android device is basically the process of unlocking administrative access beyond what the carrier locks down. It allows you to install apps that require root access, and many of those apps can add functionality to your device.

Flashing - Flashing a custom ROM is the process of replacing the stock firmware to a custom one, and not all ROMs are created equal. You do NOT have to flash a custom ROM to get root, but you must be rooted in order to flash a custom ROM. I'll leave it there for now.

Brick - bricking a phone is just lingo for breaking it. Once your phone is bricked, your only options are to 1. Use a program like ODIN to restore factory settings, 2. Sendi it back to the manufacturer and pay a fee to have it restored, or 3. Enjoy that $400 paperweight.

After you root your S4, you'd have to install an app like Titanium backup to get rid of all the bloatware. Then you could install an app like BetterBatteryPlus to tweak the battery settings. You'd need root to be able to install both.

I'm in the same boat as ravagebx ravagebx , pertaining to my M8 though. I want to root so I can get those Harmon/Kardon features which are software tweaks, as I've read. And also delete some bloatware.

And if I'm able to make this battery life even better :eek.

AT&T HTC M8's got an update today. I also finally rooted my phone yesterday. Damn what a pain in the ****, but I got the hang of it now. Don't really plan on running any custom ROM's just wanted to unlock my phone and use the SD card. I'm happy now. :D
