Benedict Cumberbatch Credited With Saving a Cyclist From Attackers

The man they’re calling a hero could not be reached for comment, so we will have to deduce what we can from the accounts of witnesses and the police.

Here is what the driver said he saw: One night in London, on Marylebone High Street, just blocks away from a statue of Sherlock Holmes, a young man with a bike appeared to be in danger. Four men were attacking him.

The driver, Manuel Dias, was giving an Uber ride to a man and a woman he didn’t know. He later told the British newspaper The Sun that the man jumped out of the car and yelled at the attackers to leave the cyclist alone.

That was when Mr. Dias recognized his passenger.

“Then it all got a bit surreal,” he said. “Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street.”

Mr. Dias knew it was not actually Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes isn’t real.

It was the actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who played the eccentric detective on the BBC and PBS television series “Sherlock,” which was based on the short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. (Mr. Cumberbatch has more recently appeared as Doctor Strange in the movie “Avengers: Infinity War” and in the title role for the television series “Patrick Melrose.”)

The driver and the actor worked together to stop the attack, Mr. Dias told The Sun.

“I had hold of one lad and Benedict another. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest,” he said. “They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn’t injured. Then I think they also recognized it was Benedict and ran away.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police in London also shared its record of events: On Nov. 25, the police were called to reports of an assault on Marylebone High Street at 9:30 p.m. local time.

The police account read: “The victim, aged in his 20s, was making a delivery on a pedal cycle traveling in the direction of Marylebone Road when he was approached by a group of males. One of the males attempted to grab the victim’s cycle. The victim dismounted and removed his helmet. He was then punched in the face, struck on the head and hit with his helmet.”

Then, the police said, the group got away. There was no mention of a celebrity intervention, and the police did not confirm the names of any of those involved. Nothing was reported stolen. The victim did not go to the hospital. No arrests were made.

Mr. Dias said the cyclist was working for the food delivery company Deliveroo, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the company did make a statement on Twitter: “Thank you Benedict Cumberbatch for your brave actions. Deliveroo riders are heroes — their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable.”

Still, the story of what happened on that night remains partly untold. Some key accounts are missing. The cyclist could not be reached and representatives for Mr. Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Hunter, who was in the car with him, did not respond to requests for comment.

And when The Sun asked Mr. Cumberbatch about the episode, he offered very little. “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know,” he said.

Stan Lee Faces Down Two Gunmen Outside LA Home

It's been a rough year for Stan Lee. The Marvel Comics legend was reportedly confronted by two armed gunman outside of his home in Los Angeles recently, one of whom claimed that Lee owed him money. Police arrested the suspects and officers report that one of the men who was arrested had been at Lee's property earlier that week. An LAPD spokesperson had this to say about the incident.

"Officers were called to a property at 7.30pm after reports of an assault. It was claimed that a suspect had a gun and was threatening. Officers detained two individuals that matched the description and an investigation is ongoing. Three units are still on scene including officers and detectives."

This is just the latest in a string of bad incidents for Stan Lee this year. In April, the police were called to his property when someone jumped the fence. In February, police were called upon to respond to claims of elder abuse against the 95-year-old, who still regularly makes cameo appearances in Marvel movies and appears at comic book conventions around the country. He was also accused of sexually harassing several members of the nursing staff who worked for him, accusations which were denied. An eyewitness on the scene, who requested not to be named, described the incident between the police and the alleged gunmen as follows.

"There was two guys standing outside demanding money, they were shouting,' the source said. There was a confrontation with Stan in front of his house, but Stan doesn't know either of them. One guy was saying 'I want my money.' But when everyone realized the men had guns everyone retreated inside. Stan's lawyer, business partner and a nurse were with him at the house. At some point the men took out their guns and were pointing them around so the police were called. It was crazy, the cops had their guns drawn and there were spotlights from two police helicopters, it was very scary and pretty intense,' the source said. The cops said, 'Put your hands up,' so the guys got on their knees and on the floor, they were handcuffed and they were put in the car."

Stan Lee is easily one of the most important figures in comic book history. His time at Marvel Comics spawned the creation of characters like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther and many more. Many of his creations, who were brought to life with artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, would go on to become the subject of the biggest movies in Hollywood, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Fox's X-Menfranchise. As such, Lee has become a very wealthy man, but that has brought with it a fair share of problems.

Aside from these unidentified gunmen, Stan Lee recently filed a $1 billion lawsuit against his for company Pow! Entertainment, alleging that two employees tried to steal his identity. There have also been reports of his daughter spending a great deal of his money and someone forging a $300,000 check in his name. Lee recently gained control of his own Twitter account and has been posting what were concerning messages, but is now using the social media platform on his own and has been much more himself lately, spreading positivity and his signature charm. Ehh operating those suits ain't anything special

Tony was a weapons maker with no prior flying experience before becoming Iron Man

Look at how fast that villain in Iron man 1 picked up how to use his suit. He did it faster than Tony did.

Look how fast Banner picked up using Hulkbuster.

Look how fast teenage, high school student Peter Parker picked up how to use the Iron Spidey suit

Cap would be fine.
All of this is wrong.

Stupidly incorrect.

Mickey Rourke's/Whiplash's appearance in IM 2 was silly as hell. Looked like a clown with highlights and a goofy moustache and beard. :smh:
