Zidane has said that the player will carry out his obligations at the polling station
Real Madrid are scrambling in an attempt to find a way for Marcelo to join the squad in London for their Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea.
All Spanish nationals face the possibility of being called to work at polling stations, and Marcelo obtained Spanish nationality in 2011. Marcelo has been selected to monitor a station for a local election on May 4, the day before the game at Stamford Bridge.
COVID regulations, however, present complications for his participation should he have to carry out his polling duties.
On Friday, Zinedine Zidane was looking ahead to Real Madrid's game against Osasuna in his weekly press conference and was asked about Marcelo's situation.
"It is what it is," Zidane said. "He'll carry out his obligations but he'll be with us on Wednesday."
Marcelo will not be permitted to travel on the day of the elections, so will instead have to fly on a private plane on the day of the game, which the club will organise.
Levante's Aitor Fernandez was previously named on a reserve list to work on the general elections in 2019, but was excused and allowed to play against Athletic Club in LaLiga Santander.
