The group chat is on fire this morning about whether people believe this . I personally don’t think it’s far fetched. Others seem to think the idea of him being that upset with Nike seems like BS, given that his shoes were still moving very well. I just think we underestimate the egos of these guys.

Tbf, Nike was kinda dropping the ball on his later models and I'm not sure how well they were selling so I could buy him possibly being dissatisfied with them at one point.

Just tough seeing an actual separation given how intertwined his brand became with them

This has nothing to do with ego. Nike wants to make money off these guys names and likeness, but never want to give them any actual creative control hence why you see guys leave them after being with them for a while. Black man wants ownership.

A guy I know who is pretty high up at Nike is pounding the table that its false for what its worth. But the evidence is there I have stayed out of it, my only commentary was that Nike totally fumbled the Kobe line so it makes sense.

Nike basketball been TRASH for years. Their lifestyle shoes look wayyyyyyyyy better. I don’t understand it. Shoes like the Marty McFlys and all their 90s and 2000s stuff was groundbreaking. We are in the year 2021 and all their shoes look generic as hell.

KD, Giannis, Kyrie, and PGs shoes look like Paul Pierce joints from when I was a kid. If Nike were making Kyrie and KD type shoes in the 90s, them joints would be $49.99 off rip.

Spot on. What I said was that The Jordan line has caused people to conflate what a basketball shoe and a lifestyle shoe is. Now every basketball shoe is expected to have casual appeal when that's just impossible. Not even every Jordan has that.

Kobes just never had any real casual appeal, it was a true hooping shoe. Thats what I liked about it.

Its a way more complicated topic than just it not selling, in order to make it sell you would have had to change the entire aesthetic of the Kobe line. The apparel is where Nike missed truly he had the biggest real brand of them all IMO. Everything Bron does branding wise on clothes looks terrible. KD too his logo looks like a kid drew it.

I believe the Kobe story. We know he was entrepreneurial, ambitious, liked challenges and wasn’t afraid to use leverage to get what he wanted. Seems totally plausible to me that he’d think through starting his own shoe company.

I don’t think that we’re saying anything different. Ego is definitely involved, though.

When they went to the lows, all of them looked exactly the same to me. The lack of imagination didn’t make any sense to me given the player. Should’ve been all hands on deck
