PAHOKEE - An assistant football coach at Pahokee Junior Senior High School was fired today after being arrested Saturday on a charge of selling drugs.
Demetres Hampton, 32, of Pahokee, had been an assistant coach at the school since 2001 and helped to coach the powerhouse Blue Devils team to last year's 2B state championship.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy stopped his car Saturday night in Pahokee after noticing the smell of marijuana emanating from the window, according to an arrest report.
A search of the car turned up marijuana baggies and Ecstasy pills, the report said.
Hampton admitted to the deputy that the drugs were his and that he was planning to sell them. the report said.
It was Hampton's first arrest in Florida, records show. A background check conducted before he was hired indicated he had no previous criminal past, according to a Palm Beach County School District spokesman.
School district spokesman Nat Harrington said there is no indication that he dealt drugs to students, and that he was only on campus for practices and games during football season.
He will no longer be allowed to interact with the team, Harrington said.
