2008 NT Boxing Post Vol. Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao 12/6/08 HBO PPV

No way does Margarito win unless he KO's Cotto, which I don't think is very likely. Margarito has already proven he can easily be outboxed. Inaddition he's slow and throws wide, telegraphed punches so I can't see him causing defensive problems for Cotto either.

I've noticed a lot of people seem to be giving Margarito a good chance and I posted how close the odds were as well, which really surprises me.

yall man Paulie should lose just for showing up looking like shaniqua
box_a_ndoumalignaggi_412.jpg

and yall missing the a few things in the Margarito-Cotto fight , Maragrito is about 5-6 inches taller has a iron chin and throws 100 punches a round hardthudding punches , Cotto is a helluva fighter but this is going to be a war anyway you put it .

You seen when Paulie showed up with blue hair I think it was the first fight w/Lovemore? That's why I love the dude and he talks mad $#+@

I'm picking Margarito solely on the fact that I like the guy but I honestly think Cotto will win. I think people put too much emphasis on the Williamsfight. He was throwing pitty pat punches and basically looked like he didn't want to fight Williams he was looking ahead. But the late rounds you sawflashes of it.

He did freeze up in the williams fight he started slow and put the pressure on down the stretch even though williams had a good 12th rd and a lot of theRingside press had Margarito winning , Come on the Santos fight was a long time ago and Santos came into the ring at 170+pounds and Margarito was coming onstrong when they stopped it on cuts and another thing Williams and Santos are over 6' . Cotto is about 5'8" point is styles make fights and in noway possible this is an easy fight to pick .

Margarito is a good fighter, i just don't think he's as good as Cotto. And his height advantage won't make much of a difference because hedoesn't jab or fight at range, he fights on the inside, so that won't make much of a difference. I'm not slighting Margarito, i just think Cotto isa class above and will win clearly. Not in a wipeout, by any means, but it will be obvious that Cotto is the beter fighter at the end of it, imo.

Zab Judah didn't take long to line up another fight two weeks after severely cutting his right arm, an injury that forced the cancellation of his May 31fight with Shane Mosley.

Judah came to terms Friday to face Joshua Clottey on Aug. 2 for a vacant welterweight title, Top Rank president Todd duBoef told ESPN.com.

Clottey-Judah will headline a "Boxing After Dark" card on HBO. The date gives Judah plenty of time for his cuts, which required 50 stitches, toheal.

"We agreed to terms and we are drawing up contracts for Aug. 2 and sending them out," duBoef said. "I think it's a make or break fightfor both guys."

The site has not been finalized but deBoef said he is talking to Connecticut casinos Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

Clottey has been the IBF's No. 1 contender since outpointing Shamone Alvarez in an elimination bout on Dec. 20. Antonio Margarito won that belt byknocking out Kermit Cintron in their April 12 rematch and inherited the mandatory obligation. However, Margarito has renounced the title.

Margarito sent the IBF a letter explaining that, instead of facing Clottey in a mandatory defense, he was taking a far more lucrative fight against MiguelCotto on July 26, duBoef said. That fight was signed last week.

The 30-year-old Judah (36-5, 25 KOs), the former undisputed welterweight champ, has won his last two bouts against low-level opposition after a roughstretch in which he was 0-3 with a no contest. He also had to sit out for a year because of a suspension imposed by Nevada officials for a melee he ignitedduring the 10th round of his loss to Floyd Mayweather in April 2006.

Clottey (34-2, 20 KOs), 31, who is from Ghana but based in New York, where Judah is from, had a shot at Margarito in December 2006, but lost a unanimousdecision. Clottey started fast but injured both hands and was dominated during the second half of the fight. He has won four in a row since then.

"Josh has wanted to fight Judah for a long long time," said Vinny Scolpino, Clottey's manager. "It's funny how it comes around thatwe fight him for the vacant title. When I first met Josh he wanted to fight Zab, but the kid would never fight him. But now they will. It will be a greatfight, but Josh will be the one who shines at the end of the day."

Said duBoef: "Clottey has been a workhorse. He's gotten to this title shot the hard way. Now he's knocking on the door again."

Dan Rafael is ESPN.com's boxing writer.

I was just about to post this , its an interesting fight . Clottey is a tough night because he does most things pretty good and has a pretty solid defense . Iwonder if Zab will be more consistent in this fight . Good Boxing after dark match up

Clottey is 5'8" and didn't have a problem outboxing Margarito for the first 4 rounds of the fight until he hurt his hand. I also think Cotto willreduce Margarito's output once he feels Cotto's shots on the inside.

Lockett "The Rocket" will be taking flight. This guy looks tailor-made for Pavlik...stand up straight in front with no head movement.

But they both messed up their hands in that fight. I'm just hoping for an excellent fight and that's what it looks like it will be. I don'tknow about Judah and Clottey though. It's so ridiculous Margarito has to give up his belt though to fight Cotto instead of unifying the belts, but whatare you gonna do.

TOP 10

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs)

Welterweight champion
Hits: Let's try to look on the bright side, OK? Mayweather's refusal to entertain a fight with Miguel Cotto means that we're gong to get a July 26 showdown between Cotto and Antonio Margarito, which could be the fight of the year.
Misses: Even though Mayweather's Sept. 20 rematch with Oscar De La Hoya figures to generate another boatload of cash and hype, it's been difficult to find any hard-core fight fans who are truly enthusiastic about the sequel. Do you know any?

box_g_calzaghe_65.jpg

2. Joe Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs)

Light heavyweight and super middleweight champion
Hits: Let's see: Undefeated? Check. Legitimate champion in two weight divisions? Yup. Has held a super middleweight title for 11 years? Si. Is coming off a close victory against a fellow pound-for-pounder in Bernard Hopkins? Yes, sir. It's good to be the Southpaw Joe C. Wales.
Misses: Will he be able to make a deal to fight Roy Jones Jr.? That's his biggest fight, and talks appear to have cooled off a little bit after so much talk in the immediate aftermath of Calzaghe's April 19 win against Hopkins.

box_ap_pacquiao_65.jpg

3. Manny Pacquiao (46-3-2, 34 KOs)

Junior lightweight champion
Hits: A lot of people are sleeping on Pacquiao's June 28 fight with lightweight titlist David Diaz. Don't do it. Based on the way Pacquiao and Diaz fight -- they're both crowd-pleasing, they both come forward and neither is afraid to get hit -- there is pretty much no chance that their fight will be boring.
Misses: There's nothing wrong with Pacquiao moving up in weight to face Diaz, but let's not forget that the belt they will fight for is a joke. Anyone remember how the WBC stole it from legitimate champion Joel Casamayor and simply handed it to Diaz?

box_marquez_65.jpg

4. Juan Manuel Marquez (48-4-1, 35 KOs)

Junior lightweight
Hits: Although he lost a close fight and his title to Pacquiao in March, legions of fans believe Marquez deserved the decision in the all-action battle, meaning that eventually we ought to see a third chapter of their fantastic rivalry. Hopefully, it will come sooner rather than later.
Misses: With Pacquiao moving up to lightweight, there are still interesting fights for Marquez at junior lightweight, such as a bout with Humberto Soto, but there really isn't anything that big for him. So, Marquez might follow Pacquiao up to lightweight, where he could have a rough time dealing with the bigger punchers up there.

box_cotto_weighin_65.jpg

5. Miguel Cotto (32-0, 26 KOs)

Welterweight titlist
Hits: It's pretty simple: Cotto's July 26 showdown with Antonio Margarito is a gift to all boxing fans. How can it be anything other than sensational? It's the must-see fight of the summer. All credit to Cotto for fighting all comers, which is more than be said of a certain Pretty Boy.
Misses: Not that alphabet belts mean all that much when you have a fight the caliber of Cotto-Margarito, but as long as Margarito won one against Kermit Cintron in April and paid his sanctioning fee, he ought to be able to defend it, and Cotto ought to have the opportunity to win it rather than Margarito being forced to give it up because he'd rather fight Cotto than mandatory challenger Joshua Clottey.

box_g_hokins3_65.jpg

6. Bernard Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs)

Light heavyweight
Hits: Despite the close loss to Calzaghe, a lot of people believe Hopkins deserved the decision and that he still should be the light heavyweight champion today.
Misses: Hopkins didn't get the decision, but we might all be subject to him complaining about it for the rest of our lives. Hopkins knows how to beat a dead horse about as well anyone who ever lived.

box_g_pavlik3_65.jpg

7. Kelly Pavlik (33-0, 29 KOs)

Middleweight champion
Hits: Regardless of whether Pavlik is fighting an undeserving mandatory challenger such as Gary Lockett or whether he is fighting a super fight, he's become a must-see fighter and one of the brightest young stars in the sport.
Misses: His promoter, Bob Arum, talks out of one side of his mouth about making matches with Arthur Abraham and Joe Calzaghe and then talks out of the other side of his mouth about Lockett and Marco Antonio Rubio.

box_g_vasquez_65.jpg

8. Israel Vazquez (43-4, 32 KOs)

Junior featherweight champion
Hits: After the sort of epic trilogy he waged with Rafael Marquez, Vazquez can sit back and enjoy the glory for a little while before deciding his next move. But when he does decide what he will do next, he figures to have his choice of fight, be it a fourth match with Marquez or an easier (but still exciting) fight with Jorge Arce.
Misses: With the amount of blood he has spilled for our entertainment, it is a shame he has never made a seven-figure payday.

box_marquez_65.jpg

9. Rafael Marquez (37-5, 33 KOs)

Junior featherweight
Hits: Sure, Marquez lost the second and third bouts to Vazquez, but that does nothing whatsoever to diminish the anticipation of seeing his next fight. Whether he won or lost wasn't what was important. Because of the way he fought during their 25 epic rounds, Marquez will never be forgotten.
Misses: Unfortunately, some folks will only remember Marquez as the loser in two of the three fights with Vazquez instead of remembering that he made him quit in the first fight and that he had a dominant reign as bantamweight champion before moving up to junior featherweight.

box_a_mijares_65.jpg

10. Cristian Mijares (35-3-2, 14 KOs)

Junior bantamweight champion
Hits: Mijares has emerged as a dominant champion in one of boxing's deepest (and most underappreciated) weight classes. In his past eight fights, Mijares has five very strong victories, two against Japan's Katsushige Kawashima (both in Japan), a total wipeout of Jorge Arce, a dominant decision against quality contender Jose Navarro and an impressive unification victory against Alexander Munoz. Is any other champion fighting at such a high level right now?
Misses: It's not Mijares' fault, but he is not nearly as well known as so many other Mexican stars, mainly because he has very little American television exposure and never appeared on HBO or Showtime. Hopefully, that will change.

The next 10

11. Winky Wright
12. Shane Mosley
13. Oscar De La Hoya
14. Ricky Hatton
15. Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
16. Jermain Taylor
17. Chris John
18. Antonio Margarito
19. Joan Guzman
20. Nate Campbell

they gave this fool a hair cut between rounds cause his hair kept getting in his way
roll.gif

EDIT:

Malignaggi wins on split decsion. they are saying he fought with a broken right hand since the 6th round. FIGHT WAS HORRIBLE

Hatton VS Malignaggi is going to be
sick.gif

both fights where HOT TRASH.

Hatton better hang it up soon cause once he fights someone wth any kind of talent he is going to get knocked out again.

I wanted to smack that ref in the Hatton fight that was one interrupting S.O.B . But both fights where ugly I damn near fell out when Paulie's hair firstcame loose . Yeah Lockett should be a gimme fight for Pavlik , and Mijares should be higher on that P4P list if you can find a copy of his last fight againstMunoz, you will see he is an excellent boxer .

What the heck was up with Paulie's hair that was nasty he always coming in with his blowouts and that thing on his head was funny looking.

Anyway Paulie fought with an injured hand so he didn't really do much in the fight he and Hatton already have a signed contract to fight each other and Ithink Paulie wins it Hatton cant fight boxers like Paulie and Mayweather.

Paulie's gotta hang it up first injures his hand in every fight and he never wants to throw it.

Malignaggii is a fool

All I could think is "if this guy losesbecause of his extensions..."

Hatton won the fight comfortably but he did not look 100%. I don't know if I want to say shot but he may be on a decline from here. He looked sluggish, got hit more than usual, and I don't think he's mentally the same since the Mayweather fight...probably doesn't help that he was hurt a coupletimes in this fight.
