ar Eastern U will no longer have Andy Barroca for its Final Four campaign in UAAP Season 72.

According to Barroca's manager, Ed Ponceja, the wily guard decided to drop out of the Tamaraws' lineup, disgruntled over what he felt were baselessaccusations of game-fixing thrown at him by team officials.

"Wala na, ayaw na niya maglaro kasi may lamat na yung samahan nila ni coach (Glen Capacio)," Ponceja said in a telephone interview.

"Syempre masama loob niya dahil napapagbintangan siya. So, para hindi na siya pagdudahan, he will no longer play na lang for FEU. He will just concentrateon his studies and his other team, Smart Gilas," he added.

Barroca, a sports recreation management student, is one of the premier point guards in the UAAP. He is also a member of the Smart Gilas national team that istasked to earn a slot to the 2012 Olympics.

Signs of trouble over at the FEU camp sprouted lately after a disgruntled Barroca skipped the last practice sessions of the Tamaraws.

Ponceja said the "accusations" had a great psychological impact on the pride of Zamboanga. Barroca, he said, opted to make himself scarce as hepondered on his tough decision to stop playing for his collegiate squad.

"Hindi makatulog and hindi makakain yung bata," said Ponceja. "Si Andy is one of those players who dreamed of making big and earn a careerplaying basketball. Mahirap lang ang pamilya niyan. But his family was devastated as well upon hearing such accusations."

Asked whether his ward would consider transferring to other schools, Ponceja said it would not be an option.

"Sayang naman kasi 30 units na lang yata and kaya na niya tapusin ito in one-and-a-half year's time," Ponceja said.

According to Ponceja, Barroca was signed to a three-year contract by Smart Gilas. As such, his ward would now devote his time playing for the amateur squadtasked to represent the country in major international tournaments.

He is also expected to be included in the Gilas lineup which would play as guest squad in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Calls made by GMANews.TV to coach Capacio weren't answered as of posting time.

that's what sucks about college ball in the PI...everyone assumes a bad game is "benta". Like dudes can't have bad games anymore...even MJ,Kobe, Bron, etc. had bad games...bet you if that happened in the PI, it would be called "benta".

I'll give Barocca the benefit of the doubt. There's no evidence against him anyway at the moment.

damn, that sucks, imo barroca has one of the brightest futures in philippine basketball.

this is just a typical conflict of interest...it's not about the kid tossing some games, maybe they're losing and he and his friends played unusuallately but that's ok knowing they have that reputation anyway..

but lets just say.. you're a team owner and your team might be facing against another team, and on that team you'll playing against with ironically, you also have a bunch of players too that plays for your team in other leagues..

so what would you choose? let your players play against each other. or, you rather choose your prioritized team and let your other players from the opposingteam to have their rest.. then have them comeback to reunite with your other players in time to play in other leagues?

just read today in the inquirer that mark barroca is not being shelved because of tossing games but rather due to his attitude. they are saying that he'sbeen a bit too cocky and doesn't listen to team officials anymore.

I don't know how true this is, coz when he plays, I don't see him to be too cocky or mayabang and big headed.

This may also be a cover up story to cover the true controversy which is the game tossing, but feu doesn't want it to leak and be an issue having had thesame problems in the prev years with alfred guerilla and mac baracael.

that statement by feu has bs written all over it.

di nila kasi mapatunayan na nag benta kaya kung ano ano nalang sinasabi.

tsk sayang si barroca, ateneo ftw

what a game! it was a shootout during the 4th quarter, but eventually it became a PAUL LEE Show!

now FEU is regretting what they did, they lack in leadership awhile ago, their inside isn't that dominating as well, if Sanga didn't wax hot, I guessthe game will be a lopsided one, Cervantes and Ramos were missing in action during the 2nd half, Espiritu's alley-oop jam is

Paul Lee did carry the load for UE after starting with 2/12 from the field, ithought he'll nail the last 3 point attempt too
