2011 College Football "The Real been hacked!!!!" .

At that same token A&M isn't gonna get a recruit to flip on his commitment from either of those flagship schools, hell the don't do it in Texas.

dont kid yourself, Va Tech and A&M are already in the souther states, and theyre getting Left overs. it wouldnt change at all

just like Vandy and Kentucky wouldnt benefit recruiting wise from  the state of texas from A&M joining

This. We already dip into Georgia and Florida a little bit but being in the SEC won't help us expand that too much. Our recruiting approach is VERY local and only really started to branch out over the past couple years.  Most of the guys we get out of Florida were leftovers or we developed a pipeline (Atlantic HS gave us David Clowney, then Brandon Flowers, Jayron Hosley, and recently Mark Leal, Luther Maddy and Dadi Nicholas (all three leftovers)). We aren't going to be able to go down into GA or Bama and compete with those schools for recruits even if we are in the NFC South

As far as the cheating comment, I don't think SEC teams get a free pass at it they just know how to get away with it better. Also that wouldn't do us any good under Beamer because we do everything above board in recruiting (too much so in fact IMO). That's the coaching staff anyways, I can't speak for alumni or boosters but you get the point.

The main reason I don't want to be in the SEC is that our recruiting footprint generally isn't as deep on the lines as most of the SEC and Big 10 schools and we have not been good at recruiting the lines as of late. When we play an SEC school or any team with good lines (UNC recently, Boise last year) we get WHIPPED. I don't recall the exact #'s but I crunched the numbers and against good SEC teams we have averaged barely over 2 YPC and something like 225 yds of total offense over the past 7 years. I can't imagine playing those games several times a year

We'd have to really overhaul our approach to be able to compete in that league at all IMO and it would take a few years.

I'd love for our basketball, football, and track and field teams to compete in the SEC, and they'd probably be able to do just that. I just don't get that same feeling with the football team.

As far as recruiting goes, I don't see how we'd gain much. A kid from Alabama or Tennessee probably isn't going to come to TAMU just because we're in the SEC. We already recruit Louisiana pretty well, all things considered. We dabbled in Florida last year, but seem to have backed off this year. I just don't see how we'd gain much.
Playing in the states of 'Bama, Georgia & Florida is a huge chip to have when convincing kids to leave home.  It's the exact same reason every Pac-12 school tries to schedule a game in the state of Texas or Hawaii.
Unless you get blown out. Trust me the schedule kills me every year lol. 5/6ths of our side of the conference is ranked in the top 20 this year even though its preseason which means nothing. When the whole realignment was going down earlier this year i was scared we'd get oklahoma or A&M or anybody good for that matter. At the end of the day when you make it out of that schedule with one or no losses you have a good shot at winning it all. I think the conference championships are going to even things out a little though as far as the best representative from each conference. When Florida won it in 08' if there wasn't a conference championship we would have went and Florida was the better team on the field when we played. The next year the same thing when we won it.

I'm thinking it was around '03 when the SEC really started running !+*@.

Nobody's "scared" of SEC teams.  It's the conference as a whole.

As a VT or TAMU fan, would you rather have a legitimate shot at a BCS game every few years in the ACC or Big 12 or be nothing more than average in the SEC.  Honestly?

A few years ago, I thought all the SEC hype got old after a while, but then I realized it isn't hype and it's actually reality at the moment.

You're telling me you would enjoy seeing the Beavers compete in the SEC conference?

It sure sounds like TMay is scared of those cheaters.

While that makes no sense geographically I wouldn't mind at all.  We should have slayed LSU in Death Valley. The Pac-10 had plenty of success against SEC teams in the last decade. We could lower our admission standards to rock bottom like Florida, hand out ATM cards like Auburn, and sell our players merchandise in the store down the street like 'Bama.

Aren't Oregon St. admin standards pretty low already?

And every school sells their players merchandise on campus and down the street lol...

Not for athletes purposes. As of 2008 Florida had the lowest standards of all 54 FBS public schools.

I was just looking at Virginia Tech's roster and was very surprised to see zero Texas kids. I could have sworn they'd pulled a few kids from here over the last couple of years...

BlazerFan, we'll just have to agree to disagree on the whole recruiting advantages thing. I don't see it paying off much at all. It might help with some more of the Louisiana kids, but that's all that I see it doing.

The worst thing about Travis Lewis getting injured is that Corey "Mr. Aggie" Nelson gets more of a chance to shine
