My guess would be that Conley would go back home to Indiana. They've been looking for a point guard forever.

I'm gonna say what I said the second time Jamal Crawford won this award... He shouldn't be able to win it more than once, once you win this award its pretty much an indicator that you're a starter level player. Continuing to give it to him devalues the award to me... Congrats to him though.

When did we as fans decide to seemingly always pinpoint free agents back to their hometowns?

Awful choice.

That seems like a bit of an overstatement. I won't dispute that there are other quys who were arguably equally or more deserving of the award, but Crawford had a legitimate case. He had his usual good offensive year, was a big reason the Clippers were able to hang at 4 in the West despite not having Blake for 50 games and, believe it or not, he actually played halfway decent defense this season. Plus, maybe the voters liked the idea of doing something historic and making him the 1st 3X winner of the award.

Not the best choice? Debatable. Awful choice? I don't think so.

I want to say it started with Melo wanting to go "home" to NY. I can't recall it being a thing before the 2010s or so.

Kanter was the third leading scorer and leading rebounder on the best rebounding team in the league.

Give it to Barton or Evan Turner if you don't want to give it to a big

He probably wouldn't have cracked my top three. Maybe top five.

He's won it twice already. Giving an award that's designated for outstanding bench guys to the Pseudo bench guy multiple times is a farce. I am aware Manu won it once doing the same thing hence why I said multiple.

The same goes for Detlef Schrempf the second time he won it, he was creeping on the door of an all star nod that year..... But he's a "bench player"

The most egregious example of this though is Kevin McHale. He made the all star team the second time he won this award... In the same year. THE ALL STAR TEAM.

Might as well disband the award if we're going to keep doing this nonsense.

In Crawford's case, I don't the fact he's won the award multiple times proves he should be starter. He really is best suited coming off the bench because of his defensive inadequacies and he also benefits on offense by getting to match up against other bench players. He wouldn't be nearly as effective as a full time starter. So, he really is best as a 6th man.

I can see the argument you're making with respect to McHale and Schrempf, but I honestly don't think it applies to Crawford.
