2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

Wasted a pick on Bamba, Issac legs might not be right and the dude outta Auburn was picked while still recovering from some ACL ****...Wonderful stretch of drafting/draft luck right there :lol :{

Hope Bamba really ok tho, that’s a long time to be recovering from COVID

You can’t argue against his production, age, efficiency, health and impact on winning at that time.

This is a time where Evan Turner, Wes Matthews (off an ACL injury), Otto Porter & Chandler Parsons (also off an injury) were getting paid like 18-20 ms a year. Not to mention the likes of older players like Paul Milsap, Mike Conley, Al Horford and even Jrue getting $30m’s a year.

Like cmon bruh .

Exactly, have to also take into account the cap spike that year and how the league thought that the Cap was going to continue to increase in the future.

Weird how it's all Lakers fans trying to do the most to discredit the Celtics

Yankees and Patriots fans of the West. All disingenuous takes.

Were Evan turner, Wes, parsons and Otto considered good deals? Was conley being the highest paid player in the league considered a good deal? Basically all you're saying is that there were a bunch of horrible contracts being given out that year

I'm all for not spending big money on B+ players, but there's like maybe a half dozen guys in the league that really matter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And he had a "treasure Chest" of picks & several years & opportunities to try & get one of those guys & instead of going for it he bought into the idea that he was some genius GM who was going to fleece every other team.

You do whatever you have to do to get those players if given the opportunity, but this is the same board that Slandered every Lakers pick for years.... To turn around & say we overpaid for a generational talent in their prime.

A year later it led to a championship

was Hayward considered a bad deal at the time?

Of course not by aingesexuals . It was debated which is what I'm saying. It's not revisionist to say he was never worth that in the first place when that was the topic at the time

I mean he was widely considered a max player no? the people who considered it a bad deal at the time were in the minority not the other way around

Only guy I would criticize Ainge for not going after harder was Kawhi, but that would've been a one year rental and would've cost them Jaylen.

Otherwise, it's Boogie (don't think he was ever a fan of his) , Jimmy Butler or Paul George?

But to his credit, he gambled on Kyrie. He just lost.

Disingenuous you say? muy interesante considering on this page i've been told that

getting a 25 yr old Center on a decent deal & a first round pick..... was a wash when compared to getting Jeff teague on a minimum deal...

Also Thristian Thompson adds the same value to the Celtics as Myles Turner would have

Those were largely awful deals at the time. Minus Matthews, who has since been plagued by lower extremities.

Conley was a small market team who had a All-Star level player under 30, who they had to max. Of course the deal looks worse as he ages. Not a bad deal at the time though by any stretch of the imagination.

Hayward wasn’t a horrible deal given out by any way that you try and slice it.

That's not what was said. Quote it. Speaking of spin cycles.

bro who said this?

you always stringing different posts together and coming to a false conclusion

I mean I can't really give you a percentage or anything. The consensus seemed to be that adding hayward was fine but that it wasn't really improving the celtics title chances and how good hayward actually was wasn't really all that clear

Gotta realize this is a board where some people think winning is overrated in basketball  , so if your content with being a borderline conference finals team you max a guy like Hayward. The NBA has caused this situation where there's "Max" guys who are good but not elite & it's usually how teams get stuck in purgatory.

If your goal is to win a championship signing one of these B+ Stars to big money is usually an issue

So tell me about Dame Lillard then....Kyrie?John Wall. Cp3, BGH13? Westbrook? James Harden even? Shoot...what are your thoughts on Embiid, Simmons etc? Devin Booker? Klay

There is a cap floor. By your logic...Only Steph, Bron, KD & Kawhi should be “Max” guys. That’s unrealistic.

Mfers are overpaid. But it’s the nature of the league and business. It’s the market. Bad GMs, timing, youth and production and good agents are great for the players.

Saying Gordon Hayward wasn’t worth what he got at the time is revisionist history, with everything in context. Y’all know this.

This is why this board is sick lol

Too much time talking bout Hayward right now tbh...Yo wanted to get paid and go to Charlotte to be forgotten about, let’s honor his wishes

If this same Hayward sequence took place between the Blazers and Pacers it would have been crickets.

Tbh I just like to **** on Ainge cuz the Boston / east coast media try to paint him like he’s some God tier GM.

Hayward contract wasn’t an issue to me 4 years ago.

Ainge hoarding all his assets and having a 10 year plan to get anthony Davis only to see him demand a trade to his most hated rival & win a chip the same year is all I need.
