2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

They said the same thing with AD. I'm trying to recall a situation where the return got better or even stayed the same by waiting to trade a disgruntled star out of spite. Magic was going to give them all the picks and everybody including Kuz and they said no. They didn't get that deal in the summer.

Why wouldn't a team give up less of they're having him 1 less year under contract, 1 more year of wear and tear on his body not in their program as he gets a year older?
The Lakers self-combusted after the trade talk (injuries helped) and got lucky jumping up to #4. NO botched the trading of #4, but they wouldn't have had it to begin with had they traded AD mid-season.

Knicks L is eternal

Dudes are talking about letting a Superstar player just sit & sulk for an entire season.... & somehow came to the conclusion that method would somehow improve the trade package??

Yes hold on to a guy that's gonna make the entire Org uncomfortable & have you in the media daily, showcase to other players that your "petty" enough to prove a point, Put that strain in with his agent.

James MIGHT make it to ASB

Right. Make it as amicable as possible and do what you can to have a win-win situation for yourself and the player. Trying to screw a player that's given you his best for almost a decade and ego tripping aint the move. Don't know what kinda ethics dudes be on tho

that doesn’t mean you just trade him for the sake of doing it. If you aren’t getting a good return, there’s not a strong incentive to trade him.

Not an entire season. Maybe a couple months. Like if Philly has no intention of letting Ben go, the Sixers come out and still look dysfunctional as ever, Ben might be on the table.

What can they really do if the offers aren't great tho? There's no real way to get better offers. Can easily see them getting worse offers as Harden depresses his value

Houston holding out for Simmons to be put on the table...where have I seen this movie before? Oh yea, that's right the Pels holding out for Tatum to be on the table. Right now the Sixers are on his list, what incentive does Philly have now or later to include Ben in a deal?

“James, we know you want out. You’re under contract. We want to help you get to where you want to go. We can’t do that if you aren’t playing. If you start playing, it’ll help us get you where you want. We don’t want to drag this out and neither do you.”

It's really not some crazy concept.

Like pmatic pmatic said, it's also arguably the toughest time of the year to make a big move like this given recently signed players can't be used in trades until around the trade deadline and rookies can't be moved til Christmas or so.

Maybe some other team pops up at the trade deadline. Maybe some team has injury issues and they feel like they need to make a move.

The Nets deal is likely the worst case scenario and is absolutely going to be there at the deadline and into next summer. No point in making it now.

Why would the return get better by waiting longer tho?
Nobody is saying it's going to get significantly better...

But if they get to the deadline and Miami pivots, do they like that better?

Are they going to get significantly less than Caris Levert or Tobias Harris as the centerpiece by waiting a few months? Not a chance in hell.

Philly deciding Ben just isn't a fit with Embiid. They're hopeful it'll work this season, but if they start slow and there's spacing issues still, they may pivot and decide to trade Ben. Houston has time on its side. Pelicans didn't.

The return is gonna get worse . Harden aint gonna be balling out for a team he doesnt wanna play for. You just lost a year off his contract and Harden got a year older. No point in holding out
