Well, I wasn't arguing anything.

I stated that the Jets could have made a killing for 2. Darnold still cheap for 2021. No more Gase.

Now, they're going to draft another Darnold.

I actually never said anything about the real value of the deal, just some mid round picks. (The 2 is nice at least, 4-6 does nothin for me)

Now that everyone is excited about such a great haul for him, I'm wondering if it was him or Wentz that someone was claiming could net firsts. I honestly don't remember. But I had a hard time finding QB's traded for firsts.

I mean it’s not all that common because teams don’t want to move good QBs because they are the most valuable position on the field but off the top of my head the following were traded for firsts:

stafford
Wentz
Palmer
Cutler
Bradford I think was a first
bledsoe
Think Alex smith got traded for two seconds
Montana
Favre

likely coming up in future years is Russ, Watson, Dallas buyers club Qb

im sure there is plenty more and that doesn’t include draft day trade ups for QBs, but getting a second, fourth, and sixth out of one of the leagues worst QBs is pretty good value

Wait.......Joe and Brett didn't get traded for firsts????

Cutler/Bledsoe/Palmer? I need to look those deals up.

Bradford was the injury trade, right? Someone got hurt and they traded for Bradford right after?

Teams just rarely trade their starting QBs

we rarely see a jalen ramsey type situation where the team that draft the guy is not willing to pay him

we see QBs pull a power play at the draft.. or you have Kirk and dak who were willing to play on the franchise tag rather than except a discount

deshaun would have been interesting, jay cutler went for 2 1sts and a 3rd plus orton over a decade ago

No idea. Nor was it my question. I said that it wasn't a thing based on market. (At least, to the point of that convo, Stafford actually would be a fresh example)

It's not a thing because a player worthy of that kind of return doesn't become available. If Watson wasn't horny he'd go for for 3+ firsts.

If/when Seattle makes Russ available he'll go for multiple firsts. Same for GB & Rodgers.

What about draft trades where the trade is clearly for a QB? Washington for RGIII. Eagles for Wentz. SF a couple weeks ago for whomever.

You kinda gettin to where I was going.

Draft, diff rules. Teams love "potential" and draft ****. Those deals are based on that potential.

Once the known QB is there, and chance to be moved, they aren't moved for firsts.

Favre wasn't. Joe wasn't. Peyton, Brady, Brees. Didn't happen.

Stafford is rare case (and I bet Goff money played bigger role)

Palmer, Bledsoe, Cutler I'll look into.

Wentz MIGHT be a first, but it also might be a second.

I’m not entirely sure what point you are trying to make here but two of those 5 were definitely traded for firsts and the other three signed with different teams in free agency at one point in their career

I have no idea where this is all leading to though. Good QBs generally only get traded when they are unhappy. Palmer threatened to retire, Bledsoe got hurt and lost his job to Brady, and cutler got traded for two firsts and a third when he found out that mcdaniels was trying to bring over Patriots pond scum. Bradford was traded for a first when teddy’s knee died. Montana was at the end of his career and the 49ers had a replacement already in Young, Favre just got drafted to a bad situation where the coaching staff didn’t want him.

****, if things go the way they are continuing to go it could happen 4 times in a single year

saying it doesn’t happen while ignoring all the times it does in fact happen doesn’t make any sense.

Teams just rarely trade their QBs.. the better question is how many times teams have done it without some sort of plan in place

9ers obviously had Steve young when they traded Montana to the chiefs.. or the 9ers with Alex smith/kaep.. chiefs with patty/Alex smith

But Dolphins, jets and Jaguars have all gotten multiple 1sts for non QBs because teams are going be more willing to move a young good player that‘s not a QB

kinda helped that all 3 weren’t teams weren’t that good and needed more

yeah it seems like the only times it really happens are with older QBs that are getting replaced with younger ones or QBs that are just plain fed up with their situation for whatever reason. Teams don’t actively shop good starting QBs because that’s dumb . Like why the hell would the Chiefs go out and try to actively trade Mahomes right now if he isn’t unhappy?

Both teams won the trade

Jets got a great haul for a player the league knew was on the move after the 49ers grade to #3. They can use the extra 2nd for to move up in the draft next year for Zach Wilson’s replacement.

Panthers got a 23 years QB who looked liked he needed better coaching, weapons and a overall change of scenery. If he sucks, let him hit free agency. If he does well & shows growth, sign him long term at at great rate.

SMH .... this question, fishing for validation is kind of stupid.

What franchise QB was/is on the Market?

Obviously the best example recently was Stafford, but who else?

You think Mahomes, Wilson, Watson, etc wouldn't net 1st rounders?

Most QBs that are traded aren't franchise or are coming off bad years. That's not to say the aren't worth a 1st, it just means that another team is gambling on turning that QB around.

Vices established killer QBs. If Watson comes out, has a bad year and then a season ending injury, are you giving multiple 1st in hopes he returns to form? Probably not ....

So not sure what are you trying to get???

Thats like saying you cant find multiple franchise changing players / QBs past the 1st round .....

I think panthers made good move if they felt QB they liked wasnt going to fall to them......Sam is going to have finally talent around him and even better if they draft the tackle or a WR...
