the other criticism Amare faces is "what is he without Nash?"

21 and 9 his 2nd year in the league, with Marbury and not Nash.

then since that point when Nash was a Sun and not playing..Amare has been 23 and 8 without Nash in the lineup. Right on pace with his career numbers.

He many not defend much, and leaves a little to be desired on the boards, but he's gona score and score efficiently, regardless.



Next..what about the playoffs?

2010 - 22 and 7 in 16 games.
2008 - 23 and 9 in 5 games.
2007 - 25 and 12 in 10 games.
2005 - 30 and 11 in 15 games.
2004 - (Rookie Year) 14 and 8 in 6 games.


I'm not over joyed to give him the max. But I can come to terms with it. We just have to build this team up with him, be it LeBron or Wade or other avenues.

I wanted Bosh over Amare, but I could definitely live with him as long as we get some post defense. I'd take Monta Ellis too. Curry and Lee for Biedrins and Monta would be interesting, but I don't know if I do it. I'd be a little too worried about the point guard position.

Really New York? Amar'e Stoudemire?  Come on. Let's be honest
here. This is the biggest free-agency period in the history of the NBA,
and you've been slashing payroll to sign Stoudemire to a maximum
contract.


If this five-year 100 million dollar deal gets signed on Monday,
Knicks fans hope this is the beginning of a new era. It might just be
the end.  He has had a dysfunction end out in Phoenix where he was up
in the air on staying or going.


Now he has opted out of his contact and is likely to become a New
York Knick.  Hey Knick fans wasn't this all about signing LeBron and
selling the bright lights of New York to him?  With the other
competitors out there and teams looking to sign LeBron James, it looks
as if the Knicks are on the outside looking in.


Yes, there have been talks about Wade and Bosh, but under what
circumstances are those guys going to want to play for Knicks? Wade said
he was in "A New York State of Mind," nothing but pure talk after a
meeting with Knicks management.


Stoudemire will be 28 years old in November.  He has already had
major knee surgery (microfrature) back in 2005.  This is a serious
surgery that can have an impact later on in the careers of some players.


Amar'e is lucky he has recovered, while other athletes careers are
diminished after such a devastating knee injury.  Stoudemire is a solid
NBA player, but there is no way he is worth Max Money. 


He's going to New York where he would play for a former coach Mike
D'Antoni that questioned his defensive ability and offensive
intelligence.  Let's get one thing straight: Amar'e Stoudemire is much
more an offense impact player than defense.


If Amar'e is the best the Knicks can do this free-agency period, then
there are big question marks ahead.  With all these teams having big
cap space and a pending collective bargaining agreement which could
cause a lockout next season, nobody really knows what's going to happen.


With Joe Johnson reportedly having a $119 million over six year deal
on the table from the Hawks and now this, it seems this is a competition
for who is the most overpaid player this off-season. 


Dark "I've done nothing in the NBA" Milicic got $30 million over five
years!  Are you kidding me?  That's absurd.


The bottom-line is Amar'e Stoudemire wants to get paid like the best
of them.  If this contract becomes a done deal, he will be.  Whether or
not it's a good investment, well that's one that only time can decide.


The Knicks will still have cap room to sign other players, but it
seems Amar'e alone would be a big strikeout.  The positioning and
transactions Donnie Walsh and company made to have a run at the big guys
is closing fast.


Now it's time to let the chips fall where they belong, and the
dominoes of NBA Superstars embark on where they each want to continue
their respective careers.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Unlike Rudy Gay, free-agent forward David Lee kept his word and visited the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. His agent says it was worth the trip.

Mark Bartelstein said his client "had a great visit" and was "really impressed" by the pitch put on by team president David Kahn, coach Kurt Rambis and the rest of the Timberwolves.

"You have to give David Kahn and Kurt a tremendous amount of credit," Bartelstein said. "They had an impressive proposal and really showed a lot of enthusiasm."

Lee spent about nine hours in the Twin Cities, catching some of the Rays-Twins game with Kahn and Rambis before grabbing an evening flight home and Bartelstein said the two would talk things over. He declined to say if the Timberwolves made an offer.

Lee averaged 20.3 points and 11.7 rebounds for the New York Knicks last season and has been one of the most productive players in the league over the last three seasons.

"We had a very good meeting with David Lee today," Kahn said in a statement issued by the team. "We enjoyed getting to know David and providing him an opportunity to hear our vision for our team, and his potential role with us. This was the first step in the process and we will be in contact with his representatives later this week."

If the Timberwolves are to do a deal with Lee, it likely will require a sign and trade to make it happen. Agreeing to deals with Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic has eaten a big chunk of their cap space, which means the Wolves will almost assuredly have to deal Al Jefferson and his $13 million salary to create enough room for Lee.

The Wolves, whose 15 wins were the second-fewest in the league last season, had to be somewhat encouraged just when Lee showed up. In the opening minutes of free agency early Thursday morning, Kahn also secured a visit from Gay. But the small forward canceled the meeting at the last minute and agreed to a five-year contract worth more than $80 million to stay with the Memphis Grizzlies.

It appears that Gay was simply using the Timberwolves, and a few other teams, as leverage to get the best possible deal out of Memphis and underscored the uphill battle the Timberwolves face in this extremely competitive free-agent summer.

Minnesota is a smaller media market than Chicago, Miami or New York and the Wolves do not have near as much cap space as any of those teams. Lee has already met with the Heat and Bulls and Bartelstein said he still might visit with the Nets as well.

"Realistically it is a little bit of a different sales pitch," Bartelstein said. "Other teams like the Bulls, Miami, New Jersey, they've got the ability to add a star player and David. They're in a little different position in terms of being able to compete right away."

Kahn said last week that he thought it was important to get free agents to make visits to Minnesota in order to get a better idea of what the Twin Cities, and the Timberwolves, have to offer.

"I very much want people to come here and see the upgraded facilities, to meet Glen, to have a feel for the entire organization," Kahn said. "I think there are a lot of quality people that work here and are connected to this organization. The more they can meet those people during this process, I think, the better."

Kahn didn't think that the Timberwolves would have to get past any preconceived notions about snowy Minnesota, but he was aware of the incredible competition on the market this summer, competition that has already yielded enormous deals for the likes of Gay, Drew Gooden and Amir Johnson.

"The more teams that are competing for the services of one player, that tends to drive the price northward," Kahn said.

The Timberwolves love Lee's productivity and think he would be an ideal fit for their up-tempo offense. The hard part will be convincing Lee, or any other big-time free agent, to join the rebuilding effort.

"I think David [Kahn] is doing it the right way," Bartelstein said. "They probably have to make a heck of a pitch. But that's why they're there. David [Lee] is a really bright guy. He's got an open mind and we'll see what happens."

I mean who's out there. San Antonio could use a big man, because Tim Duncan turned human 2 years ago. Utah could use 1 since Memo's always hurt.

if we hold most of our money and sign well then it's a great off season. i'd be pissed off about lebron but no matter what we are back to being a real basketball team. playoffs. something worth watching.

walsh took out all the trash in 2 short years. then to get a top 3 power foward in the league? i'm all smiles. to me he did his job. the rest is out of his hands at this point. what he hell else can he do to get lebron to come? nothing.

But smart teams don't make decisions based off other teams' bad decisions. No one in the NBA has praised those 2 other contracts. There has been much ridicule instead. I don't see why there isn't room to criticize. There are a lot of question marks regarding Amare Stoudemire. This isn't a "can't miss" signing. It's a big step in a positive direction but there's definitely a lot to be desired. I don't see much fault with the media on this one.

These odds allow gamblers to put their money where their mouth is, while also splashing a dose of reality into all the speculation out there.

Vegas is again shifting on LeBron, this time with the Bulls inching closer. Wade staying in Miami is as close to sure to a sure thing as you can get at -400. While Bosh, Stoudemire and Boozer still seem to be anyone's guess given how contingent they are on where LeBron lands.

You know, as weird as this sounds, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs worked out a sign and trade with the Jazz for Boozer. Jamison, Vareajo (or Hickson) plus a draft pick or two could get the job done, and I don't think it would be all that bad of a move for Utah as Jamison could work out really well for them if he moved back to the 3.
