I take it back in March...after the start..yeah..not so much.

What I liked:

-Was a pleasure to watch Asdrubal play ball this year.

-Masterson

-Bullpen mafia (this was expected)

-Tomlin. He came back down to earth, but I'm a big fan..even if he is only a #3 or more likely, a #4 starter.

-Brantley & Santana

-Kipnis, Chisenhall & Carrera -- I like athleticism and speed, keep Carerra around, there's value with him..albeit a likely minor role. (ideally)

-Hey, they kept me entertained until football came around. *shrugs*

What I disliked:

-Matt LaPorta

-The trade

-Injuries

-Fausto and Grady failing to salvage anything and not being assets.

-Finishing 2nd in the division is good, mostly because everyone else sucks.

Acta is blah to me. Like him, don't love him. Was on the FO bandwagon and then the trade just puzzled me. Didn't think that was in line with the organizational thinking or plans. Bad reach.

We'll see how things go from here, future is good...just not sure of the upside. If there's a 2007 caliber team within this young core, I'll kind of be surprised.

I was just thinking about how pissed we were when Law predicted 74 total wins at around the 30-15 mark.

Certainly agree with all that you wrote, except I think, at least from a prospect standpoint, there is more talent now than in 2007.

I love Manny as a dude, but he tends to baffle me with his in-game decisions (or non-decisions).

Fields will be back. Belcher and Tolman will not.

Either Radinsky (bullpen coach now) or Niebla (assistant pitching coach) will get the promotion. Alomar is moving from the first base coach to bench coach, but could be targeted for the White Sox manager job. Acta said he wanted his first base coach to be of an outfield background and someone who can help with baserunning, so one particular name comes to mind there...

When Acta and Antonetti talked to the media today, they continued to express that payroll would be on the rise. There was also an indication that LaPorta is all but out. Interested in possibly bringing back Fukudome and Hannahan.

As of right now, my ideal winter would consist of signing a veteran starter for one year (like Millwood before), signing Carlos Pena and trading for B.J. Upton. And of course taking care of the arbitration cases, but that is a certainty.

Is this like your dream, and can this actually happen?

Plausible and beneficial, I think.

Anyway, I have been slacking in here. Just to bring the thread up to speed:

- Sizemore had yet another knee surgery.

- The decision on he and Carmona's options must come within three days after the World Series is complete, so we're getting to that point.

- Masterson had arthroscopic surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. No worries that it will interfere with spring training, much less the season.

- New additions to the coaching staff: Scott Radinsky (pitching coach), Tom Wiedenbauer (first base coach) and Dave Miller (bullpen coach). Radinsky was the bullpen coach. He is a former pitcher and the lead singer of a punk band (seriously). Wiedenbauer was the minor league field coordinator last year. He worked with Acta in Houston in the 80s and 90s. Miller has been in the organization for a long time, most recently as the minor league pitching coordinator.

I think that's about all that has happened in the past month or so. I've totally gotten away from maintaining my Twitter account since then, but I'm still mostly in the loop.

Thinking about making the trip to Goodyear for spring training in an attempt to get my name out there. Plus, it would just be awesome.

Derek Lowe is exactly the kind of veteran inning-eater I was hoping they would go after. Gave up a 23-year-old reliever in A-ball (nothing), and the Braves are paying $10 million of the $15 million Lowe is owed. Like it.

Most groundball-heavy staff in baseball history.

Carmona exercised; Sizemore declined.

With a need at first base and another groundball machine added to the rotation, I have a feeling Casey Kotchman will be on this team soon.

Hannahan has to be back, too. Defense, defense, defense. You already know that Kipnis and Chisenhall are going to deal with inconsistencies in the field, so shoring up first base and having a great utility infield defender to go with Asdrubal is crucial.

Not that Kotchman is someone I really want in the lineup for 140 games. Offensively, he puts up middle infield numbers, and this team obviously needs power. And he's another left-handed bat. But it would still make sense, I guess. First baseman who hit 40 home runs and play great defense make a lot more money than the Indians can afford, so you have to figure it out another way.

Sad to see Grady go. but no other choice, tough luck with his career.

Lowe works for me.
