Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, livid over the unconscionable demands of Floyd Mayweather Jr for pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao to undergo random blood testsas well as urine tests conducted by the US Anti Doping Agency before their planned March 13 fight told us late Wednesday morning, "is off as of now."

Arum made it clear that Pacquiao who has a phobia for needles and extracting too much blood which weakens him said he would gladly agree to have a blood testbefore the initial press conference and after the fight, plus urinalysis anytime he wants. What more? asked Arum.

Arum said "doctors will tell you that blood-testing is not even sure anymore and urinalysis is the state-of-the-art testing for drugs. But they don'twant the fight which is what I suspected from the beginning or they want to torture Pacquiao to throw him off his game."

The astute promoter said he told them "absolutely not. That's where we stand and we are prepared to walk away. I'm not going to bully this kid andFreddie (Roach) is adamant about that point."

Arum said "they can go to hell as far as I'm concerned including (Richard) Schaefer although I don't think it's his idea, I think itsFloyd's idea and we are going to go on and do something else. This is an absolute outrage."

He said the Nevada State Athletic Commission under its highly respected executive director Keith Kizer is "beside themselves" over the Mayweatherdemands and said "their drug testing is the best in the world and it's an insult to them."

Arum questioned the motives and asked "who is this ignorant, illiterate kid demanding this. Who is he? This has never ever happened in professionalboxing."

Pacquiao, in a statement issued by his adviser Michael Koncz said he had always wanted athletes to serve as role models in every sport and to keep sports freefrom drugs and that he was willing to undergo tests as he has always done in the past and come clean. Koncz said "we wanted to do the fight becausethat's what the people wanted but obviously Mayweather is scared and looked for a way out."

In an email to www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said "Olympic style drug testing is not oneblood test 30 days before the fight and one after the fight. It is random drug testing which would include somewhere between 3-5 blood tests and 8-12 urinetests taken during the period January 1 to March 15. Blood tests by the way are taken in a non-intrusive manner and are less than one tablespoon."

Arum mentioned several issues that arose during the negotiations day after day. He pointed out that Mayweather "had no intention of coming in at 147"which is the welterweight limit and then said he didn't want to fight for the WBO title and we said okay, if you come an ounce over 147 you are going topay us $10 million. Then this all started."

Pacquiao's conditioning expert Alex Ariza responded to the Mayweather camps demand that the blood testing go all the way up to the weighin saying it was"ludicrous" pointing out that "there is nothing that they are going to find 24 hours before the fight that they cannot find five minutes afterthe fight. We are not refusing to give blood, we are not willing to give it that close to the fight."

Ariza said he is convinced that Mayweather is "just posturing and the reality of the situation is Mayweather is looking for a reason to get out of thisfight because Manny is going to give him the beating of a lifetime. He will sustain a beating that he never ever endured in his whole career in boxing. What hefeels in his own small mind is that his legacy will go down being beaten by Manny Pacquiao."

Mayweather is playing mind games right now always thinking of a way he can bash Manny...how come he never asked for such testing when he fought Oscar, JMM andHitman? what a coward!

no worries guys.. both fighters are potentially going to make too much $$$ for this fight to fall through.. this is what lawyes and promoters are for, to gettheir fighter the best deal.. let em do their jobs and make this megafight happen!

Arum says Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is off
December 24, 2009, 3:45pm
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, December 23, 2009 (AFP) - Manny Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, says the Filipino hero's planned welterweight mega-fight againstunbeaten US star Floyd Mayweather is off because the sides cannot agree on drug testing.

Arum told the Grand Rapids Press, Mayweather's hometown newspaper, that he thought the American never really wanted to fight "Pac-Man", who tookhis pound-for-pound throne during a retirement that Mayweather ended in September.

"We're going in a different direction," Arum told the newspaper. "What I believe is that Floyd never really wanted the fight and this isjust harassment of Pacquiao.

"Floyd, to me, is a coward and he has always been a coward. Not a physical coward, but a coward because he's afraid to face somebody who could beathim.

And believe me, Manny Pacquiao could beat him.

"So he will go his way, we will go our way and that will be fine."

The last stumbling block after all other negotiations had been completed was on Mayweather's request for World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) doping testprocedures rather than those commonly used at fights in Las Vegas.

"I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same," Mayweather said. "It leaves me with great doubtas to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night."

At issue is blood testing. Mayweather wants testing close to the fight as well as after, which became a deal-breaker for Pacquiao that has wiped out what couldhave been the biggest moneymaker of a fight in boxing history.

"We appeased Mayweather by agreeing to a urine analysis at any time and blood testing before the press conference and after the fight," Arum told thePress.

"Mayweather pressed for blood testing even up to the weigh-in. He knew that Manny gets freaked out when his blood gets taken and feels that it weakenshim. This is just harassment and to me just signaled that he didn't want the fight."

In a statement Wednesday, Arum said Pacquiao agreed to random urine tests at any time and blood tests at a pre-fight news conference in two weeks in New York, another 30 days before the fight and one after the planned March 13 bout.

"It's not about being tested," Arum said. "It's about who does the testing and the scheduling of the procedures. Manny will submit to asmany random urine tests as requested."

What Pacquiao does not want to open himself up for are possible numerous random blood tests in the days before the fight, Arum said, indicating the USAnti-Doping Agency (USADA) will not administer tests outside its own rules.

"USADA, under its guidelines, would have the right to administer random blood tests as many times as they want up to weigh-in day and that'sludicrous," Arum said.

Arum said any of the independent agencies that test US team sport leagues, which are not governedby WADA rules, could easily handle the tests as Pacquiaowishes and allow the fight to be staged.

"If Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are sincere in creating 'a level playing field' as they stated in their release, ourrecommendations should put their minds at ease," Arum said.

"If not, one has to wonder if their motives are more about leveling the fight."

Arum had sympathy for boxing fans who have been looking forward to seeing two of the sport's finest fighters meet in a fight expected to bring more than$100 million in revenue.

"Sure they will be disappointed, but they've got to understand what's up," Arum told the Press. "We're not going to keep appeasingthis guy for no damn reason, especially over something that would affect, psychologically, my fighter.

"We're not going to be pushed around by this guy."

Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe made the demand for WADA-style testing on December 12.

"Manny Pacquiao doesn't know anything about drugs," Arum said. "This is just typical nastiness by wise guys like Ellerbe andMayweather."

Arum said telecaster HBO tried in vain Tuesday to find agreement on the testing but to no avail.

"Forty years of fights in Las Vegas and nothing like this has ever come up," Arum said. "If you want more stringent testing, sure, as long as itdoesn't inconvenience and psychologically affect Pacquiao, who cares?

"It's the blood testing close to the fight, while he's in training, that's unnecessary. And everybody who knows anything about drug testingwill tell you it's unnecessary."

Possible next foes for Pacquiao, Arum said, include Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez, American Paulie Malignaggi, or unbeaten Israeli Yuri Foreman, the WorldBoxing Association super welterweight champion.

LIKE A GAME OF CHESS, PACQUIAO PUTS MAYWEATHER IN CHECK
December 27th, 2009 | by Felix Strunk

Like a game of chess, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have been making strategic moves throughout the negotiation process to put themselves in the bestpossible position for their showdown on March 13. Every detail discussed was like a coordinated move and, thus far, Pacquiao has maneuvered brilliantly aroundthe board.

When it came to the gloves, Mayweather wanted the 10-ounce pillows. Pacquiao wanted the 8-ounce puncher's delight. The final verdict, 8-ounce gloves, scored a piece for Manny as rook took pawn!

When it came to the weight, Mayweather wanted the heavier 154-pound division. Pacquiao wanted to defend his newly acquired 147-pound title. The final verdict,147 pounds, scored another piece for Manny as bishop took rook!

With Mayweather quickly down to his final few pieces on the board, he tried a desparate move to try to back Pacquiao into a corner. Mayweather demanded thatPacquiao take an unrequired blood test, giving the impression that his recent success might be due to some type of performance-enhancing drug. Pacquiao calmlycountered, stated his success was due to his hard work and dedication and then began the process of filing a defamation lawsuit. Another piece picked up byPacquiao as knight took bishop!

Now, Pacquiao is going in for the attack. His promoter, Bob Arum, has given Mayweather until Tuesday to agree to their final terms for a bout under thejurisdiction of the standard Nevada State Athletic Commission rules. Take it or leave it are Maweather's only options. Pacquiao picks up another piece whenhis queen takes knight and puts Mayweather in check.

With the clocking now ticking, it's Mayweather's move, but there aren't very many moves left to make.

Interesting... I just want the fight to happen.

Pacquiao seeks 154-pound Title through Foreman

Trainer Freddie Roach has confirmed BoxingScene.com's big scoop over the weekend; Manny Pacquiao may move up to 154-pounds to target a world title shotagainst undefeated WBA champion Yuri Foreman. Foreman and Pacquiao are both promoted by Top Rank. Roach, who will be in Amir Khan's corner this Saturday, told British press that Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't want to fight Pacquiao in March, and Manny doesn't want to wait until May or June to fight again -likely due to a possible election run as noted earlier by BoxingScene's Ronnie Nathanielsz.

"Mayweather doesn't want to fight in March, so we might fight for the 154 pound title in March and move up for that eighth world title. I'mthinking about that still and it's something that I'm kicking around in my head right now," Roach said.

"Yuri Foreman might be the opponent. It is a possibility, and then Mayweather in September. If they guarantee me that, we'll do that, but I need moreof a commitment from Mayweather because he's not negotiating too well. It has to happen, and with the money they are going to make out of it, I feel itwill happen. Mayweather can't make that money with anybody else."

Bernard Hopkins, a partner in Golden Boy Promotions [who are backing Mayweather], told BoxingScene.com over the weekend that Pacquiao would likely face Foremanbefore Mayweather, and Floyd would likely fight Shane Mosley - should he beat Andre Berto in January.
