And so the attack on the internet starts....

What's next for these big companies? Attacking review websites such as this one, and calling for defamation of character if something bad is said?

Definitely.

I don't see what's so bad about copyright protection. What exactly is so bad about the underlined and emphasized part of the article? Freeloading isn't a right.

I agree. Also, I'd think this site would back going after counterfeit sneaker operators and knock of Pharma.

We just found out that they're bringing back the Internet blacklist bill for a vote on Thursday -- just a week from now! We've spent the week meeting people in DC and I can tell you our petition is definitely making a difference. This bill was supposed to pass without objection, but now even Politico is calling it "hotly debated" -- all thanks to you.

We've found the most effective way to get through to senators is for constituents to call in. Your senator, Dianne Feinstein, is on the committee that gets the first vote on the bill. Can you take a second to call her? We'll give you her number and some tips on what to say -- just click here:

http://act.demandprogress...=15.67158.NObiJx&t=2

Remember, this bill--in blatant violation of the Constitution--would let the Attorney General create a blacklist of websites that every American ISP would be required to block. Wikileaks, YouTube, and others are all at risk. Human rights advocates, constitutional law experts, and the people who invented the Internet have all spoken out against this bill -- but some of the most powerful industries in the country are demanding that Congress rush it through. The music industry is even having all of their employees call Congress to pose as citizens in support of the bill.

We need to fight back -- can you call Sen. Feinstein right now? It just takes a minute:

Keep on fighting,

-- Aaron Swartz, David Segal, and the Demand Progress team

P.S. Can you please forward our petition to your friends? Tell them to visit http://act.demandprogress...=15.67158.NObiJx&t=6 -- so far over 250,000 people have signed. Can you help us hit 300,000 before the vote?

Completely agree. I dont think we appreciate just how nice we have it right now.

the only problem with the music/movies is most of the sites don't actually have the files on their servers. therefore, nothing can be done about it. most of the websites post links to rapidshare, megaupload, etc... so if anything, they'd have to shut down those websites. but, that won't happen.

what's gonna happen is (which is already happening), they'll ask for the links to be removed from the sites hosting the files. but it's not instant, so filesharing will live forever
