Black Culture Discussion Thread

Personally I'd love for us to join forces. IMHO its the only thing we haven't tried.

"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." - Arthur Conan Doyle

Ex: It is impossible to deal with white supremacy while still endorsing the concept of race.

My lived experience as a military brat proved that when adults stayed out of our affairs we all got along just fine.

Grew up in Germany.

My best friend lived across the hall from me and was half German and American.

During the summer his Mom would take us to his Grandmothers house off base to work in their family bakery.

After work we would go to the local pool. Nothing but Germans. First time I saw women walking around topless. Was the only black kid there. Never once had any issues or problems. Their family treated me like I was one of them. Even went to their family reunion.

Eventually moved from Mannheim Germany to Fayetteville NC.

HUGE culture shock. Didn't even know what came with being Black until we came back to the US.

Black kids asked me why I "dressed and spoke white" and white kids wondered how I knew who "Guns N Roses" were.

Segregation was CRAZY.

Black kids hung with black kids, white kids hung with white kids, etc etc.

It was really weird...and sad.

Here I am, a black kid coming from the home of the Nazis getting a a taste of what race really is from my own Country.

As long as we stay divided - nothing will change.

We keep teaching our kids BS.

It doesn't have to be this way. Its really hard to hate up close.

Race is one of the biggest lies ever told.

A lie that has become too big to fail.

This is just prime example that there are different levels and experiences of blackness on NT.
Some of us used to think this way folk...
Then you start seeing things for what they TRULY ARE and the vision doesn't look as bright.

The way I see it is everything we know has been built on a foundation of lies.

The lie has become too big to fail.

Race as we know it (the term "white") didn't exist prior to the 1600's.

Why we chose to ignore all human history prior to the 1600's is beyond me.

We have more in common than we ever had in difference.

As long as we stay divided, nothing will change.

I'm a huge Fred Hampton fan, for this very reason.

I'd love to see his "Rainbow Coalition" become a reality.

. As a group they really have a transactional relationship with black people. They open their stores and build there money in our community and they pretty much stick to their own and ignore everything else. Same thing with middle easterns.

And I mean that's cool, I can't be mad if people choose to only care about their own but the problem is these other groups always look at us to jump in front of the bullet and be loud and speak about their issues but it ain't reciprocal.

Again, sure this is a generalization but this is what Black folks in "urbaN' settings have been saying for DECADES. Many feel used and abused by other folks coming into our neighborhoods, buying up property and selling us garbage that shortens our lifespans.

I feel you. But can you really place all blame on these outside communities if we as black people allow them to do so? That's why I stopped giving my business to those middle eastern and asian stores.
But back to this convo. Outside of the wild stuff being said, it is a convo that should be had.

What can Black people in those environments really do to "fight off" the capitalism?

The food is usually cheap and in abundance.

There aren't many healthy options, so what are folks to do?

The idea of nutrition discrimination is big. Over the summer I provided therapy to employees on inserra/shoprite at various locations and it was wild to see the discrepancy of food options and quality from location to location

I did find the timing of this to be more than a coincidence as the Texans have demonstrated time and time again that they don’t have Deshaun’s best interests at heart in the way that other teams do for their elite QB’s.

That doesn’t clear his name though.

Also found it interesting that all the cases he’s facing are civil and not criminal meaning that nobody wants to see him punished, they are looking for a check.

Thoughts?

so was Weinstein cancelled because of #racism? Whoever made that meme is an idiot and probably a misogynist. Players ask to be opted out of their situations ALL THE TIME and most manage to not be accused of sexual assault.

I think the person who made it doesn’t have all of the facts.

I also think that if they’re seeking justice then foul play has to be examined from every possible angle.

I hate the term “cancelled” its been weaponized by people that don’t want to be held accountable for anything.

Weinstein is going to spend the rest of his life in jail because he’s a rapist and a racist... among other things.

But Weinstein has absolutely nothing to do with Deshaun Watson. They don’t know each other, they don’t do business together and none of the events surrounding their cases are related.

Its like bringing up OJ’s name in relation to the Atlanta murders from this week.

I agree. I should have said "cancelled". My point is what is a white man's excuse for being #metooed? It seems like whoever is making that meme is saying it is somehow unique to heterosexual black men.

man bro this is a gross over generalization of asian communities. you're taking the examples of asian store owners (which is an extremely small portion and percentage of the asian community) and then extrapolating that as if it's indicative of how all asians act. you're taking individual acts of interpersonal racism and applying as if it's institutionally embedded within the asian community.

this notion of "stick to their own".. i don't think this practice is unique to just asian or middle eastern folks.

Not even sure if that is true but you can have it if you want.

I dunno, they have African Americans beat in many categories.

The whole genocide thing, highest poverty rate, lowest life expectancy, worse access to resources (healthcare, education, etc).

I dunno, I think when it comes to white supremacy inflicted trauma, they win. As morbid as that sounds.

You are discussing something completely different now.

But like I said, you got it.

How am I discussing something completely different I was directly addressing your claim that

"WE (Blacks) will ALWAYS be in last place in that battle vs. White Supremacy."

My comments were an appropriate response to yours. It wasn't off topic with regards to what you posted.

it makes no sense. Athletes b***** about their contracts and situations all the time. Heterosexual men always love playing victim when one of their own gets accused of being bad. If you personally feel attacked by this, you are highly suspect.

Every time something like this comes up I’m reminded that The woman responsible for killing Emmet Till wakes up outside of a prison cell and outside of a grave with a smile on her face.

Where did I say it's all? Don't do the selective reading.

I already said it's not all but like I said it's too many. This is something that's extremely common in black neighborhoods. THESE ARE FACTS.

We can talk about Pet Liang, the asian cop that murdered Akai Gurley and some of the asian community supported Liang. Treated him like he was the victim.

The meme definitely misses the mark. That said, it certainly was not lost on me that these allegations came up in the midst of the biggest power shift in the player/organization relationship in the NFL all started by DW's request.

The shield is undefeated. There's a reason why.

that one incident shouldn't be used as an excuse for men to dismiss the me too movement. For every woman who lie there are countless others who are telling the truth. When a man automatically jumps to the defense of sexual abusers, especially habitual ones. it is mad suspect.
