Black Culture Discussion Thread

The truth is the Asian communities don't really need any help from a singular black broken community.

Community is something black Americans do not have comparable to Asian communities to really bring any worthwhile help. Now there is a lot the Asian community can do to help the black struggle because they have power, access to resources and capital.

Reading through guys' twitter is a bit disappointing. Is there work to be done? Absolutely, but there's a tinge of willful ignorance being displayed.

You're way overestimating the homogeny of the "Asian" community. There's still lots of issues - colonialism, colorism, distrust between countries, and disconnect between Asians and hyphenated Asians (to name a few). We have stuff we need to work on as well.

Cause to the west asians are all the same despite being one the most ethnically diverse.

This is all they imagine when they hear asian

People don't wanna say it but it's facts.

I don't understand this rhetoric in to pertaining to the Asians you're talking. Growing up, they always stand amongst themselves or ****** w/ the Blacks. You'd even see the Asian Foreign exchange students hanging around African foreign students, and they couldn't even understand each others language. They've always been fairly compatible groups.

That’s your experience.

At my HS for example, darker skinned Asians and Koreans didn’t get along much

And some Asians would act sus to black folk depending on how you carried yourself

I will say I always ****** with Cambodians though. Them and Filipinos were always cool.

F'ed with blacks in what way though? Went to parties? listened to hip hop?

The main topic is as a group do they speak up about racism black people go through. The hard truth is no, they don't. As a group they really have a transactional relationship with black people. They open their stores and build there money in our community and they pretty much stick to their own and ignore everything else. Same thing with middle easterns.

And I mean that's cool, I can't be mad if people choose to only care about their own but the problem is these other groups always look at us to jump in front of the bullet and be loud and speak about their issues but it ain't reciprocal.

There’s more than a tinge of cherry picking going on with your posting of these images and that guys tweet.

Who is he? Is he of any REAL significance or just one faceless person tweetinf
So according to him writing a tweet = protecting lol.

Damn let me just tweet something about world peace and tomorrow no evil should exist.

A tweet isnt doing jack ****. Asians, and other ppl, have been tweeting and posting about hate crimes.

What are YOUR thoughts on it?

I wouldn’t use the word “nauseating”. A bit extreme here but I did not see any lies in the first tweet, did you?

I think people should be careful in making sweeping generalizations, which is what took place in that tweet.

At the same time I have personally witnessed Vietnamese nail salon owners falsely accuse Black patrons and BEAT them physically in parking lots over lack of tip or something equally as frivolous.

Needless to say the situation is extremely complicated.

I do however find it aggravating that the media is calling black people to task since the shooting in Atlanta and I am glad to see at least one Asian pointing it out

This is the only issue I have and what I think we have as a whole. In their thread, and the talking points for the most part were trying to make black people the face of the attacks, only to come around with some "how we can be allies" BS, instead of focusing on the problem at hand which is White Supremacy; Seeing as how they have been the primary aggressors in this increase of attacks towards Asians. The nerve of mf's to try and paint it one way, and then ask for our help instead of attacking White Supremacy head on.

There always going to be racist and ignorant pos in every race.

The world isnt perfect.

There's plenty of black on asian crime and vice versa.

That's the hard truth.

There's too much generalization everywhere.

But what we can do is try to understand each other and treat each other's the way we want to be treated.

Seems like that twitter account wants total separation. If that's what someone wants then so be it. You don't bother me and I won't bother you. *Kanye shrug"

This is one of the best posts I’ve seen in months and it PERFECTLY articulates my issue with a few people in the AC thread.

I agree with this. I personally never thought or blamed black ppl for attacks on asian. It's just racist people in general who are attacking asians.

The first time I faced racism for covid was from a white mechanic last year

I just go back to my initial question- who is that dude and would I be wrong in guessing that no more than a few hundred people saw it and dismissed it as nonsense?

I was trying to make this point to moe200069 moe200069 the other day in the AC thread- we can’t give power or attention to the comments section or some Twitter account that essentially tweets into the ether with barely anyone paying them any attention or taking them seriously.

People don't wanna say it but it's facts.

My issue with this is they tried to make it seem like black people were just out here beating on Asians when most of the attacks that were shown were white people. The white man has occupied your country and attempted to push your people around for decades and black people who are under oppression themself somehow are the ones responsible. I'm also not down with the "we will call on black people's help and act like we are one when its only convenient for us." It shouldn't have to take COVID and Trump with his antics to make Asians realize that they are also up against white supremacy.

Not certain if serious? You posted a picture of Richard Aoki standing with some panthers to represent Black and Asian unity, but this is the worse example. He worked with the FBI to help murder, assassinate and imprison some of our leaders.

i appreciated the back and forth but i had to disengage because i figured we were just talkin across each other. i respect your opinion, i also happen to take a different perspective on it. the comments’ section of certain posts have become a dumping ground to make wildly racist generalizations. it’s anyone’s choice as to whether or not they engage. but is there a significant difference between engaging in the comments section vs engaging with /calling out racist posts on niketalk?

1. Remember, I'm years from 30, so my experiences w/ most groups have been strictly social. Understandable questions. I get it

2. I feel like this is an immigrant thing though. Ya know, finding a commonality in a foreign area. In general most groups be separated.

3. I did some see some of this specifically an interview w/ 2 talking something "Black ppl are hurting us" or something that, but I figured that was like their version of Fox News.

Yes, yes there is a SIGNIFICANT difference.

The difference is that people such as you, myself and the majority of the other regulars are just that- regular posters.

You want your posts to be taken seriously, you want to engage with people on some level, you want your questions answered, you want to come back and do whatever it is you do on NT etc.

The comments section can be likened to transients. Theres No incentive at all for them to watch what they say in the comments section because 99.9% of the time they themselves and others aren’t coming back to said post to discuss anything.

It’s like a burner phone type of deal if you will. Use it, say some out of pocket hateful stuff, trash it and on to the next. Unfortunately that’s the nature of the comments section- it mostly exists for people without a say so, without any clout, and a lot of times without any common sense to say what they wanna say.

Here you can’t do that (to a certain extent lol). Eventually there are consequences.

where’s Ninjahood at? Where’s NaughtyHare at? Where’s GucciShades/Alp? They could have gotten away with all of the things they did in the comments section. That’s the difference, Moe.

You get what I’m saying? The difference is night and day.

Engaging with racism on NT has a place. You call it out, it gets discussed, deleted or otherwise because since 1999, people come back. Nobody wants to come back to a place that looks like the Youtube or IG comments section.

i follow a handful of AAPI pages that are addressing this recent rise in anti-asian racism and i’ve rarely seen them calling on other communities to stand up with/for us. i think it’d be distasteful to force any other community’s hand in some faux-solidarity.

and in regards “It shouldn't have to take COVID and Trump with his antics to make Asians realize that they are also up against white supremacy” there are pockets of asian american communities that have been organizing to stop deportation and end the prison industrial complex since the early 2000s. it’s unfortunate that the only time the media wants to portray asian american political consciousness is when they’re protesting against affirmative action

I get what you’re saying and I was probably being obtuse with my question... but what clout did nawghthare or ninjahood really have to lose besides their post/reaction count? we’ve seen trolls come thru the NBA or politics threads (main ones i frequent) say some asinine out of pocket **** and it’ll derail those threads for an hour. somehow, we will still entertain those comments despite knowing the person has no intention on contributing to niketalk.

You’re getting away from the original question and the point.

It’s not that either of them had clout to lose its that now, they can’t come back because they were held accountable.

There’s no accountability in the comments section. Which is why I don’t participate and question why anyone would stress themselves out over such an environment.

In our previous back n forth you suggested that my not participating in the comments section (and I’m paraphrasing here) was akin to ignoring the existence of MAGA zealots or something to that effect- it’s definitely not that.

On one hand you have to pick your battles and what the hell would I look like arguing with 40 million anonymous racists? There’s just no point.

That's why I was staying "Asian communities (plural) vs. a broken singular black community (if you can even call it a community)".
I do not disregard the nuances between different Asian cultures. Even in this moment, the Asian community is galvanizing together in a much more assertive and organized way that is truly putting the "BLM" movement to shame. Still don't have an official corporate structure and it's still mystery where all the money went.
