Black Culture Discussion Thread

My knowledge of black music is so expansive. I could literally go MONTHS without listening to rap. But again, some of these dudes are so uncultured and blinded that they don’t even know anything else other than rap. Man, cry me a river.

Same dudes who complain about it, would never listen to dudes like Coltrane, Miles Davis, Isaac Hayes, Earth, Wind, and Fire, etc.

So I don’t want to hear the crying

What difference does them singing about it make? The damn Silk Road, ran through China. They do more dope over there than us. Europeans, etc. they all do drugs.

Thinking that your culture is the ONLY one that participates in societies ills and violence is clear cut sign of self hate. To be naive and think only we commit a form of racial genocide is lousy.

Again, Nobody is forcing dude to listen to rap. But he’s probably embarrassed to listen to other genres of black music.

Is rap the only form of black music? We have Jazz music, R&B, Gospel, etc. No one is forcing dudes to listen rap

Rap ain’t the only form of black music.

Whether they sing it or not, they still use elicit drugs and kill each other.

Show me a gun manufacturer in the hood. I’m so tired of these soft, crybaby a*** dudes like bruh in that video.

Rap isn’t the only form of black music in representation. Tired of these dudes whining
That was the point of the video I thought. What's being promoted through the musical genre.

Assigning guilt to an entire race for the actions of a few of its members = holding that race to the lowest common denominator.

Personally I choose not participate in such endeavors.

Simply because its illogical.

From Minstrel Shows to Blaxploitation...

None of this is new.

People internalize this stuff as if context doesn't matter.

How many of us have ever seen a "Madea" in real life - IJS.

Imagine going to Asia and expecting the citizens of that continent to speak in subtitles while practicing Kung Fu in the street.

Imagine going to Africa and expecting the citizens of that continent to walk around carrying spears and swinging from vines.

Same thing with Rap music.

If you think the majority of Black folks are walking around carrying guns, drug dealing, and crip walking just because rappers rap about it then that's on you

Who said that?

"We the only culture..."

Better question:

"We the only culture..."
How does that equate to thinking majority of Black folks carry guns etc? 'We the only culture that creates self hate destructive music' was the quote. 'It's about self hate. It's systematic racism'

no, stop trying to place blame on the yutes trying to make it out when all they are doing is rapping about their life. Blame the current economics, blame the record executive from the distribution companies, but dont blame the kids.

Im so over this argument

Yeah that sounds good and all but that argument/excuse won’t help any of our young brothas and sisters when they are in court in front of a judge.

It aint gotta be deflection all the time. Let's talk about us

Nah. It’s aggravating when dudes act like black people are the onlyyyy ones doing these things.

Stop blaming rap for parents not wanting to raise their kids.

Again, hip hop ain’t the only form of black music. Blame the parents, blame the schools for taking out music theory.

Social media is justtttt as bad as hip hop music. These “parents” literally give their kid a tablet or device and don’t even monitor what the kids do.

It’s aggravating seeing everything OTHER than parents getting just do criticism.

This type of stuff is just as bad as “hip hop” but no one talks about it…

Look at that “adult” holding up that sign with his “child”.

A lot of these “you tubers” that kids follow are TERRIBLE. Again, you’ve got parents who just let their kids watch a lot of stuff on YouTube that sends bad messages

The title of this thread is the BLACK CULTURE discussion thread is that correct? With that being said why would I or others be concerned with what other youths from other cultures are doing, let alone bring it up in here.

I commented on a video where a dude criticized hip hop culture, but heaped praise to Jewish and Chinese people, who do the same stuff that he’s appalled by us doing.

That’s my only reasoning. Now y’all want to backtrack because I proved dude in the video wrong

The problem with the argument is that it presumes that rap (especially the kind with street themes) represents the entirety of black music.

And I wonder how many of you are not familiar with narcocorridos. These guys are not rapping, they're not Black, they're not singing in English, and they're celebrating actual merchants of death.

The only thing these "we're the only culture that does [insert negativity]" arguments suggest is that whoever is saying that needs to get out of their bubble.

Lol anyone who thinks only black people create destructive music had clearly never listened to death metal. Stop blaming music for societies problems.

Right.

Statement: "We the only culture (insert words)"

First he should define "We" and "Culture"

I'd rather not assume what he meant but in the interest of moving the conversation along,

"We" = drill rappers and people who enjoy drill music.

"Culture" = drill culture

In my mind its simply supply and demand.

The music business exists to make money.

Drill Rappers want to earn money as drill rappers.

Both parties seek to reach these outcomes in the most efficient / effective way.

If that means generating low vibration music that appeals to the publics most base desires therefore increasing the likely hood of revenue then so be it.

Neither party owe the general public anything at all by way of virtue, values, positivity, good faith, or anything else of that nature.

However...

He mentioned Chinese People.

He mentioned Jewish People.

Naturally it would follow that he meant Black people as it relates to "self hate" and "systemic racism".

So the question is:

What does drill rap, drill rap fans, drill rap culture, or white owned record companies, have to do with Black people / Black culture?

If anything it amounts to a mere fragment of what we are as a whole.

As far as "self hate" and "systemic racism" - see that Malcolm X quote a few posts back.

Did Minstrel Shows define Black People / Black Culture in the early 19th century?

Did Blaxploitation Films define Black People / Black Culture in the 70's?

Just another Cadillac Fam.

I didn't get from the video that drill music was supposed to represent the entirety of black music. Have any members of narcocorridas been shot and killed as well?
