Tensions erupt at wake for slain teen rapper Lil Jojo
Tensions erupted late Friday morning at the wake of slain teen rapper Lil Jojo as hundreds of mourners, eager to take a last look, surged toward his casket, nearly knocking it to the floor and pushing family members out of the way, prompting Chicago police to clear the funeral home.

Lil Jojo’s mother and sister were led out of the viewing area hysterical, as other family members took to the microphone, yelling at other mourners to “Get the f--- out!”

Gang presence appeared to be heavy at the funeral home, with many mourners exchanging gang handshakes.

Chicago police swarmed the area, with about a dozen unmarked police cars circling the Jones Funeral Home at 79th and Kedzie and a police helicopter buzzing above.

The fracas began as the family of Lil Jojo — whose real name is Joseph Coleman — gathered in front of the casket of the teen to pay their respects before the casket was taken away for the funeral procession.

Mourners, some wearing RIP Jojo T-shirts, instead of waiting in line, surged to the front, nearly causing the casket to topple over.

JoJo was gunned down earlier this month after feuding with rival rappers as well as with the Black Disciple street gang for months. He was fatally shot near 69th and Princeton in the Englewood neighborhood.

Witnesses said Coleman, was riding double on a bike — standing on the back — when a car pulled up and someone fired six or seven shots, killing him.

The funeral procession eventually went to Mt. Hope Cemetery.

After the casket was lowered into the ground and mourners left, police from Chicago, Cook County and Merrionette Park converged on some cars outside the cemetery, searching occupants and vehicles.

Police closed down several blocks near the cemetery as they conducted their operation.

Authorities had received reports of shots being fired nearby and a man waiving a gun.

Police had more than 30 people lined up on the sidewalk and in handcuffs near a Kean gas station at 111th and Talman, despite protests from their family members that they had done nothing wrong. Law enforcement had recovered one gun so far Friday afternoon, police said.

Chicago police cleared out a Southwest Side funeral home today after a large group of friends of slain rap artist Lil Jojo gathered around his casket and nearly knocked it over.

The scene drew outrage from relatives of the slain 18-year-old and other mourners, including one who picked up a microphone and exclaimed, "Y'all being disrespectful!"

A handful of police officers then rushed into the Jones Funeral Home at 3240 W. 79th St. and escorted a couple hundred people out into a parking lot.

In the crowded parking lot, a song performed by Lil Jojo blared from a car. In it he chants "BDK!" -- a phrase of disrespect toward the Black Disciples street gang. Police have alleged Lil Jojo – whose real name is Joseph Coleman -- was affiliated with the rival Gangster Disciples and their "Brick Squad" faction.

Meanwhile, six or seven squad cars sat parked across the street from the funeral home and a police helicopter hovered overhead.

After the funeral home was cleared, dozens of cars traveled in a procession to Mount Hope Cemetery in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood as police from Chicago and neighboring Evergreen Park followed.

Once the procession reached 115th Street and Pulaski Road, officers received a "shots fired" call along with a report that one of the motorists was carrying weapons, police said.

A handful of squad cars-- their lights flashing and sirens blaring -- pulled over a white car on suspicion of the weapons offense, but later let its occupants go when none was found.

Just outside the cemetery, officers with guns drawn also stopped a Chevrolet Suburban after learning there could be weapons inside it. That, too, proved to be a false alarm.

One person who was part of the funeral was placed under arrest, however, on a traffic charge just north of the cemetery, police said.

Coleman was riding on a bicycle last week when he was fatally shot at 69th Street and Princeton Avenue. Police have been looking into whether a war of words in the Chicago hip-hop community was somehow linked to his slaying.

Police were also monitoring tweets put out on Twitter celebrating Coleman's death. At least one of them was written by Chief Keef, a local rap artist known to have been feuding with Lil Jojo.
The media isn't reporting that there were many Black Disciples at his funeral wearing 300 shirts and that they may have been the ones who tried to knock his casket over.

This **** is only getting national attention because Chicago is at the forefront of the rap.

More ignorant stuff happens at funerals all the time. The fact nobody got shot or arrested on serious charges is shocking within itself considering the situation.
