1.) What does the that 30 million have to do with anything? We're talking about raising the price not reducing it... You've never heard of anyone restructuring a contract before?

2.) Oh ok I forgot we're supposed to unconditionally trust David Stern's word. Touché.
Restructuring deals make it CHEAPER for owners in the long haul. These types of deals SAVE MONEY for teams so that they DON'T SPEND more than what they want to.

Try again though.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm saying.

The point I'm making is contracts that have been signed can be changed with a mutual consent.

Try again though.

I think I'm caught up to what you guys were talking about...

So basically, I think its definitely conceivable that Hansen can 'raise' his offer (which would directly giftwrap the Kings to Seattle).

But your point of both parties agreeing to allowing change is a little off to me because they have already submitted the NBA for review. Changing the offer/contract would result in the NBA having to start the vetting process over again and thus taking away the main advantage Seattle has had thru out this entire process, an agreed upon offer by the Maloofs, Hansen, and the NBA

Also, I've been scouring twitter looking for info on the rumor of Hansen being able to raise the offer, could you possibly link me in that direction?

On an unrelated note, I think Vivek is gonna end up matching the offer dollar for dollar including the $30m deposit. But of course this would be null if Hansen raises his offer

again, I'd like to apologize if I offended you (and by association DaKid since he always likes what I have to say

No, you're missing the point, stupid. You turn in a test to the teacher, it gets graded. You can't tell the teacher to hand the test back to you so you can change your answers. How hard is it to understand that what they submitted is for final review? Too tough? Maybe Clay Bennett did the NBA a favor after all...

Let me get this straight

The Maloofs have an argreement - one they "would like to move forward with" - to sell to the Hansen and Seatte group, including a $30M deposit that's been paid out

BoG are reviewing the situation and will make a final decision

Meanwhile the Maloofs are now trying to hold a bidding war between Sacramento and the Hansen group, which they've already formed an agreement with? *****?

- If Sac's offer isn't "good enough' for the Maloofs, who cares? BoG doesn't have to necessarily...
- If Sac's offer IS good enough for the Maloofs, isn't Hansen about to FLIP ****? It's not the NBA BoG telling them the Kings are staying... its the people they gave a $30M deposit...

Am I missing something?

Well, from what Stern/NBA has said, that $30M deposit is contingent on the sale going thru... so not really that strong of a powerplay by Hansen as it was when it was initially reported (it did score them solid PR points tho back in January)

In my (biased) opinion, if the BoG tells Hansen 'no', it'll come with a guarantee of an expansion in order to facilitate the building of their new arena; and Hansen will gracefully bow out avoiding the inevitable no vote.

Expansion isn't happening. The league isn't adding a team. Plain and simple. As much as it might be the preferred option for everyone, it's not realistic.

I certainly didn't mean this season or even the next. I meant in 2017-1018, whenever Seattle gets their arena issues sorted and construction completed.

Agreed, that expansion won't be happening in the immediate future (hell, Stern has said as much), but 3-5 years? Sure why not.

The ONLY reason I can think of why the Sacramento group would even entertain increasing their offer would be to make it more appealing for the ownership groups that will vote on the sale. If Sacramento pays the Maloofs more, it will increase the value of the 65% stake in the team, thus increasing the value of every other owner's team value in the league. Otherwise, the Maloofs played their hand and everyone knows they're making a last ditch effort to squeeze more money out of Sacramento since that's where much of the board is leaning.

Sports Business Daily reports that the NBA has requested Vivek Ranadivé's group to refund the $30 million down payment made by Chris Hansen's group if the Kings stay in Sacramento

^also in that report is that once the final offer is submitted, new investors will also be revealed
