DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

Disney so stacked that they need a quantum algorithm just to figure out how to keep their movies from cannibalizing each other smh

If JL makes a billi, you got to take 5 shots of miralax and chase it with Fireball. Good for you?

If they get pirates figured out and I think I read some place they're looking at tron again.. plus the live action movies for their classics making bank

And can't forget Pixar and their own animated movies

The struggle is real for these other studios

That's why I mentioned F&F franchise earlier because Universal is actually one studio that has a lot of money-making properties. Of course, nowhere near as profitable as Disney but you can say they are at least competitive with F&F, animated movies like Pets and Despicable Me, Jurassic Park, etc.

How do these bans work cause the Great Wall was dealing with magic and demons and thats they own movie.

So dr strange didnt open in China?

Edit

So yeah it made 100 mill in china. So yeah what givds?

lots of factor including a quota for the numbers of film that can be imported to the China, it was raised from 20 films to 34 in 2012 so they have to be more selective and if they deem one film to be against they believe and has more realistic violence and feel their audience would not watch then they'll look for another film to come in

Since WW deals with magic, I wonder if China will ban this movie like they did with SS.

Lol you're screwed if they remove China from the equation, but don't think they will do that to WW

Let's just do a standard 20 rep bet until we can think of something more fun

SUICIDE SQUAD Is The DCEU's Most Profitable Film Ever

The profit a movie studio makes from a blockbuster depends on a variety of things. Deadline Hollywood has studied the numbers from industry insiders to find out the exact profit that Suicide Squad made.

The film ended up grossing a whopping $325 million domestic and $745 million worldwide. From that, the studio will pocket $329.50 million. In addition, the movie earned the studio another $288.80 million from Home Entertainment and Television Revenue. This brings Suicide Squad on overall revenue of $618.30 million.

How much did the film cost? It had a production cost of $175 million, and another $156 million was spent on marketing. Add in $40 million from video release and another $88.85 million in fees to the actors and producers. Suicide Squad had total cost of $459.85 million. In comparison, Batman v Superman cost the studio $575 millon and Guardians of the Galaxy cost Disney $520.28 million.

Using basic subtraction, Deadline came up with the total profit of Suicide Squad: $158.95 million. That means the movie is the most profitable film in the DCEU.

Here is how it compares to recent comic book movies:

Iron Man 3 - $391.8m
Avengers Age of Ultron - $382.3m
Guardians of the Galaxy - $204.2m
Big Hero 6 - $187.3m
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - $166.2m
Suicide Squad - $158.95 million
Thor The Dark World - $139.4m
Doctor Strange - $122.65 million
Batman v Superman - $105.7m
Ant-Man - $103.9m
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - $81.31m
X-men Days of Future Past - $77.4m
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - $70.4m
Man of Steel - $42.7m

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Final Profits Tallied: How Much Did It Really Earn?

Deadline Hollywood has crunched the available numbers and best estimates from Hollywood insiders to determine what kind of profits Batman V. Superman ultimately made after considering all revenue streams for the film itself and subtracting all of the assorted costs.

In the end, the film grossed $873m at the Worldwide box office, of which WB will pocket $367m. (The rest going to the theaters that showed the film.) Additionally, they calculate that the film earned WB another $314m in Home Entertainment and Television Revenue. This brings the film a Total Revenue amount of $681m for the studio.

However, that's just half the story... there are the costs to subtract. The film carried a Production Cost of $250m, and another $157m was spent on Prints and Advertising. Add in the $46m in Video release costs, and another $122m in assorted Participation Fees to the actors, producers and directors who had a share of the profits, Interest and Overhead costs, and you get a Total Cost amount of $575m.

Deducting that total cost from the total revenue, we find that the film ultimately earned $105m for Warner Bros.
(Check out the full breakdown of the numbers at the source.)

Here's how that amount would compare with the profits from recent Superhero films calculated by the folks at Deadline:

Iron Man 3 - $391.8m
Avengers Age of Ultron - $382.3m
Guardians of the Galaxy - $204.2m
Big Hero 6 - $187.3m
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - $166.2m
Suicide Squad - $158.95 million
Thor The Dark World - $139.4m
Doctor Strange - $122.65 million
Batman V. Superman - $105m
Ant-Man - $103.9m
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - $81.31m
X-men Days of Future Past - $77.4m
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - $70.4m
Man of Steel - $42.7m

Actually they aren't stupid at all. Justice league comes out November 17th. Star Wars comes out December 15th. JL will have a month before SW releases and the Black Friday/thanksgiving weekend. It's actually a perfect date

It is almost impossible for it to do 700 million or less

Wonder what deadpool is

they're doing a countdown/tournament thing where they slowly reveal each one, SS is #10 and BvS is #13, DocStrange is #11

Deadpool and CW will probably be in the top 5

I believe it's magic, skeletons or extreme violence. While dr strange dealt with magic, suicide squad had the enchantress who pushed that line a little more.

Also there's greasing of palms and stuff that goes on. Logan had a ton of stuff cut from it for the Chinese version

Still don't get how strange gets in but no t suicide squad unless it was politics and other films took the spot

Both had magic with Strange being the whole movie

I read somewhere that BvS box office also played a factor since plenty of people were supposedly bored with the film. Since they have to be selective which films they can show in the country, wouldn't be surprised if they thought it might not make as much because off BvS.

Plus SS had a lot more violence in comparison so that might play a factor too.
