...what you think about the niners draft this year?...i thought we lucked out man with my man crabtree
pimp.gif
but i thought they did great getting coffee he'll be decent
the draft went swell imo. crabtree was nice, i hope he pans out. I'm really high on morgan this year though.
I wasn't so sure on coffee at first, but the more i read up on it...the more I'm optimistic about him.
I also like the Nate Davis pick. Having him sit a season or two will only help him. Dude has tons of upside but if he doesnt work out, we only lose a 5th round pick.

hopefully morgan and crabtree can be a decent tandum in the near future for us...co-sign on that nate davis pick...it doesnt hurt to have another qb especiallywhen we have that bust alex on our sidelines
The Pacquiao Era: Why he's the greatest fighter since Hagler
Posted by Tim Kawakami on May 3rd, 2009 at 11:09 am | Categorized as Boxing

* The Cohn disagreement-he thinks I'm crazy putting Hagler over Ray Leonard. Probably am crazy. I admit, I toss out the Leonard victory over Hagler, for no great reason other than I didn't like the decision then and I don't like it now.

I thought Manny Pacquiao would have a tougher time against Ricky Hatton, and I would presume Hatton thought so, too, until Pacquiao's fists started pummeling Hatton's face last night.

Sounds like even the Pac Man was a bit surprised he didn't have one moment of difficulty on his way right through Hatton-two knockdowns in the first round, started with heavy right hooks, and then the monumental Pacquiao left that crushed Hatton with a few seconds left in the second round.

And put Hatton flat onto his back. Done. Out.

So let's just say it swiftly: This performance not only solidifies Pacquiao's claim as the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter in the world, it underscores the developing belief that he is the greatest fighter of this era.

The greatest since Marvelous Marvin Hagler was raging through the sport in the mid-1980s. There, I said it.

Now Floyd Mayweather Jr. could and does have an argument here, but at the moment, I'm giving it to Pacquiao and let's presume that these two are headed for a mega-fight either in November or next May. (Mayweather just signed to fight Juan Manuel Marquez in July.)

- My argument for Pacquiao as the greatest of this era:

* Since 2003, he's 12-1 and has KO defeats of Hatton, De La Hoya, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera, and he has decision victories over Marquez and Barrera. Those are almost all of the best fighters anywhere near Pacquiao's weight class in this era.

This is while fighting at 126, 130, 140 and 147 pounds-all within the last two years, all fighting against most of the best fighters in those divisions. (Pacquiao started at 107 pounds, by the way.)

Grand summary: This isn't a great era for boxing, but there was an excellent batch of featherweights in the early 2000s (Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Pacquiao) and now a good crop of welterweights (Mayweather, Hatton… and Pacquiao again, and maybe Marquez again) and De La Hoya was the most famous.

Pacquiao amazingly has spanned all three significant sectors of this boxing era, and been the best in each.

* Pacquiao's only loss over that period was a disputed unanimous decision to Morales in 2005, which Pacquiao avenged with a massive TKO 10 victory in 2006.

* That's the best resume, by far, of any current fighter, and it's the only current resume that matches up with the busy-historic records of the greats of the '70s and '80s.

* The only Great Fighter of this era that's missing from his resume is Mayweather, but:

-Pacquiao took out De La Hoya much more impressively than Mayweather's split-decision victory in 2007 (should've been a clear unanimous-decision for Floyd, but wasn't close to Pacquiao's devastation of DLH.)

-Pacquiao waltzed through Hatton, who took Mayweather into the 10th in 2007 (Mayweather's last fight.)

-Mayweather's chance to out-shine Pacquiao is July, and you know Floyd will want to dimiss Marquez quickly knowing that Marquez has given the Pac Man his toughest fights, starting with their draw in 2004 and the Pacquiao split-decision victory in 2008.

- The other contenders for best fighter of this era (post-Hagler/Leonard/Duran), in the order I currently have them ranked

* Floyd Mayweather Jr. (still active, 32 years old)/

-Career highlight: Still unbeaten at 39-0, and still hasn't been severely threatened in the ring by De La Hoya, Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo or anybody.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: Doesn't have anywhere near the string of heavy-duty opponents on his record that Pacquiao does. And history favors KOs. They'll have to face each other, and Mayweather will have a very significant size advantage.

* Pernell Whitaker/

-Career highlight: Whacked Julio Cesar Chavez in a horrendously-scored 1993 draw.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: Losses to De La Hoya (a bit controversial) and Trinidad, prime likely cut short by drug use.

* Julio Cesar Chavez/

-Career highlight: Went through everybody in the late-1980s and early '90s.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: Draw with Whitaker, losses to Frankie Randall and twice to De La Hoya before JCC's big fade.

* Roy Jones Jr./

-Career highlight: Dominated the super-middle, light-heavy and even the heavyweight divisions (well, for one fight-victory over John Ruiz), until he ran into Antonio Tarver.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: Two losses to Tarver (2004 and 2005).

* Bernard Hopkins, still active, probably (44 years old)/

-Career highlight: Incredible longevity… Whacked Trinidad when B-Hop was 36, took out De La Hoya when he was 39.

-Why he's behind Pacquiao: If he gets credit for victories in the upper-age strata, also has to be marked down for recent losses to Jermain Taylor (twice) and Joe Calzaghe.

* Lennox Lewis/

-Career highlights: KO2 of Razor Ruddock, beat everybody the heavyweight division had to offer from 1992-2003, with a few huge exceptions.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: KO losses to Oliver McCall (avenged) and Hasim Rahman (also avenged) can't be ignored.

* Shane Mosley, still active (37 years old)/

-Career highlights: Two victories over De La Hoya, two victories over Fernando Vargas, just beat Antonio Margarito this year.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: 0-5 combined against Winky Wright, Vernon Forrest and Miguel Cotto.

* Evander Holyfield, probably still active (46 years old)/

-Career highlights: Two monster beat-downs of Mike Tyson (1996 and '97), good fights with Riddick Bowe in the the early '90s, KO of Buster Douglas.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: 6-7-2 from 1999 on.

* Oscar De La Hoya/

-Career highlights: Victories over Chavez, Whitaker, Vargas.

-Why he's below Pacquiao: Other than being wiped out by Pacquiao last December? De La Hoya is 3-4 against the rest of this list, and also lost to Trinidad.

the nuggets remind me a lot of the warriors.

....just with better players, better bench and a better coach.

i sense sarcasm, but i'm going to assume you're not being sarcastic.

this quarter's going okay, it's really busy (so i'll leave the whining for some other time) but it's a lot of learning and it'sfairly productive so in that regard, it's good. i'm doing a homework assignment right now that's damn near impossible, the math behind this $#+$ isdisgusting.

and i'm assuming you want an update about the girl
grin.gif
...man, i justgotta make a decision about if i wanna go all-out and make a move. i never really get a chance to talk to her in person
ohwell.gif
, if i do i'd be really going out of my way, but maybe that's what ittakes. anyway i'm always doubting whether or not she "likes" me as well so it sort of prevents me from goin further and gettin more aggressive.like, i think it's there, but is it really there? so i guess on that note, if you can relate to what i'm talkin about, what have u guys felt about asituation like that when you've come across it?

how's school for you?

I wish the Warriors were more lik the Nuggs. Play a fast tempo game and sold D.

I initially was being sarcastic and thought about poking fun but I won't.

About the girl ... How can you really know if shes into you if you don't talk to her in person? Body language is HUGE. Her getting to know your personalityis HUGE. Face to face interaction is HUGE. And what's wrong with going out of your way if you really want something? Girls these days like to be chased andits not like high school when girls would ask guys out (at least that was my experience). It's definitely a tough situation, I'm in a very similar onemyself and I chickened out when I could have asked this girls out after class. So I can't completely scold you for not going for it. (But to be honest,I'm not quite sure about her boyfriend situation and I'm not doing THAT again). At the end of the day, you'll never know how it'll all play outunless you man up and go for it. You and I both need to do that.

Bingo!
Acid, just approach her , maybe it is easier said than done ( for some ), but you will NEVER know if she likes you if you dont go out on your own way and findout.

whoa...715 not being sarcastic. the world is flat....
eek.gif

but yeah, i definitely feel you on what you wrote. that's real talk though...i guess if it matters that much, i just have to go for it.i have talked to herin person quite a few times, but not recently. from what it seemed like, i felt there was something there...but i wasn't sure if it was just me wanting tobelieve so.

Just do it so you can move on with your life.

Hey GSDOUBLEU, a dude from Lowell got a contract offer from Everton (an English Premiere League team). He graduated a year after I did (2005) his name is AntonPeterlin. Another guy from Lowell is playing Single A for the Cardinals but I think this Everton thing is more impressive.

I will say this... you are more tolerable when you don't capitalize every "L" in your reply.
