He would have. Who in the world is stopping the 6'8 260 pound point forward with the twice the speed of MJ? Nobody can check Lebron now and nobody(not Scottie or MJ) would be able to check Lebron. Plus Lebron plays better defense than Kobe.

it would be fun to watch if him and jordan were from the same era but it doesnt work that way. theres only one superstar per era. you cant have two jordans playing because one will lose and be on considered a lower status player.

C'mon now, at least admit you're being a homer...
It's univerally known that Jordan woulda dominated even more with the no hand-checking rule in place now.

And playing in the same era woulda just elevated Jordan's game even more.  Jordan thrived on competition.

By the way, DRose just stonefaced your homer comment of noone playing harder than kobe today...
do u watch laker games? kobe is getting played physically and gets very few calls compared to other players which my be due to his off the court actions (rape case, divorce, etc..).
im not trying to say jordan is better than kobe or kobe is better than jordan. but im saying kobe would have been as dominant as he is now if he would have played back then, the reason for this is because kobe like jordan puts in tremendous time into his game and lots of dedication so he would have adjusted to the more physical style of play.

Lebron is possibly a better defender right now, but I would still take Kobe on defense. They both were selected for all-defensive first team last season.

Kobe all-defensive first team selections: 9 times. Tied with MJ, The Glove (GP), & KG for most all-time.

Lebron all-defensive first team selections: 3 times. We'll see if he can eventually catch up.

He's fourth in the league in fta

But Kobe would do good in that era. He's competitve like Jordan so you know he would consistantly put in work to be considered the best of that era since Kobe's not the type to be outshone. And even though there was hand checking in the 90's, Kobe has dominated some tough/strong defensive players (Battier, Bowen, Bell, Prince, Wade, etc). Plus he deals with more zone defense than Jordan ever had to.

Depends who else is on his team.

If he's minus Shaq no championships.

Would go out like Ewing, Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Dominique, Iverson or would become ring chaser status

didnt shawn mario shut lebron james down last year in the finals...i am pretty sure dennis rodman would destroy lebron mentally and lebron would not just disappear in the 4th but probably the whole game lol...oh yea i like to mention tat kobe scored a useless 30 ptn game against the bulls when the bulls blow out the lakers by like 20 ptns, all in all kobe still prob be a great player same as lebron in jordan's era, but i feel like theres gonna be a drop in their FG% though

Lebron gets all the calls?

I like how for some people they don't know how kobe would do/be less effective but it is an undeniable fact that lebron would dominate

If there was no hand checking back then Jordan wouldn't have turned out to be like he was. Everything about the league and the game of basketball is what made Jordan so amazing. He was a product of his environment. His game was molded around dominating the style of the league at the time. Kobe is no different. Kobe has adjusted to the style of the league now.

MJ had tougher defenses to play, and playing against them made him elevate his game much more to a level that players can't get to now, not because they don't have the potential, but because they aren't faced with that same obstacle. They have it too easy compared to Jordan back then. Thats why they can't touch him, because he was playing in a whole different age and style.

I think Kobe would survive though. Kobe's killer instinct and his will to win would help him adjust to an early 90's style of basketball.

And considering when Kobe came in, he played at the end of Jordans era, so didn't Kobe deal with hand checking and rough defenses? Kobe's early career experience is sort of what gives him the edge over players now because he got that killer instinct from being around some of the greatest players ever during the late 90's.

The experienced Kobe would do just fine. But an Experienced Kobe + the Young Kobe's athleticism?
eek.gif
He'd be a beast in any era.

Lol. Kobe might've f'ed around and won 7 in a row.

Your absolutely correct, Shaq contributed to all of Kobe's 5 championships and without him he would have zero championships. No question. Absolutely.

True, but it goes both ways. Without Kobe or Wade, Shaq would have zero as well.

Without Pippen, how many rings would MJ have? Not 6.

Yeah, but his point is, Kobe got 2 more without Shaq.
Shaq needed a young slasher to get rings, while of course both Kobe and Wade needed a dominant big man, but Kobe has shown that even without a HOF big man, he could still get the job done with the pieces he was given.

Shaq has had Penny, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, AND the big 3 in Boston and could't get it done after Miami.

Kobe kept it going, Shaq (with age working against him) had a shorter Championship run.

But either way, they all needed each other.

But the whole point of this thread is that it's in Jordan's era.

You think the team that Kobe beat the Magic and Celtics with could beat the 96-98 bulls?

Take out John Starks and replace him with Kobe. Do you guys see the Knicks beating the Bulls?
Those Bulls vs Knicks series were serious

I'm saying it! You put Kobe in his prime on those Bulls teams and the results are the same, except he's not dumb enough to take a year off to go try baseball lol.
