DUNE (new film incoming, love the book, also loved the multiple Lynch versions)

you underestimate how much interference studios and producers have with those franchises

just go check the amount of directors who had to walk away after signing up due to “different visions”

also tead how marvel operated and how much reshoots are scheduled ahead of time because they know theyll have to insert stuff to fit the whole “universe”

i know we all want the best directors doing our favorite franchises but sometimes its beat to jst let dudes do their own thing where they have freedom to do whatever they want

I get that aspect.. and with marvel that would probably be the case since obviously to various angles and degrees things have to fit within that universe and what plans are in place and what character(s) he choose would also play a significant role

But with Star Wars and Star Trek, I feel like outside of certain things he would get to do what he wanted with practical constraints to make it palatable for mass audiences

With Star Wars especially I don’t think they’ve done anywhere near enough to move beyond the original trilogy and those core characters in spite of how much material is available

again, its not simply the story

its the studio

again look at the directors who walked away, hell one director walked away halfway through filming solo iirc

I am not disputing that studio(s) can be problematic

Warner bros itself has their own issues, see the coyote vs acme for a recent example

But I think solo is dealing with an even worse issue of a legacy sequel (prequel for that one).. Han Solo is 1 of the greatest characters ever on film, the concept of trying to find an actor to have that level of charisma is flawed from the start let alone telling a story that is going live up to all that build up.. I think that is what he was touching on when talking about blade runner, that’s a beloved movie within the genre

But I think there are opportunities like with dune that could be explored

theres always opportunities even with marvel and dc, no arguments there, theres more of those books than star wars

as i said a 100x its not the stories thats the issue

he honestly is better off doing james bond since thats resetting again then again the brocollis might be just ad bad

He don’t need Star Wars. Dude is already building up his own legacy. You think Dune and now you think of Dennis. Third one gonna cement his status.

At no point did I say he needs Star Wars

But I would like to see his film(s) within that universe

I am curious what his take on a bond film would be, obviously he has sicario

But he does sci fi exceptionally well

I can see him touching Star Wars because there is so much gosh darn content that’s outside of the trilogy.

Tales of the Jedi, Knights of the Old Repubkic, golden age of the sith, those projects are perfect for his vision.

I want to see the Dune universe continue and i hope he’s able to stay on and continue to amaze us.

Like someone said I as well didn’t expect D2 to be THAT good.

exactly, Star Wars has soooooo much that hasn’t been touched on

they fumbled the situation trying to do that Han Solo movie.. or their reluctancy to actually move beyond the original trilogy

I’m not surprised when terminator, Indiana jones or Jurassic park movies struggle

The typical star wars fan doesn't even appreciate greatness like Rogue One and Andor. They want simple stories and lightsabers.

And you can have that without being married to those original 3 movies

There are 381 Star Wars books

Honestly, even if he did do anything Star Wars related, he’d run head first into the inevitable Dune comparisons territory…It’s well known that George Lucas took bits and pieces of story from Dune to form his vision of Star Wars so the similarities are already inherently there…Even despite the possibility of him even doing something that’s not Skywalker adjacent in the universe that would always be hanging over the project…Not sure any creative would want that baggage…

You’re definitely right about the inevitable comparisons that will be made and the influences George Lucas got

But the many failures post the original trilogy, I’d hope would give him freedom to do work

Also moving away from desert planets would be huge

I was surprised they didn’t have Paul remove his scarf and mask prior to killing his grandfather

No thanks to Denis directing a MCU/DIsney film

they would put the shackles all over him and the finished product wouldn't even resemble a signature Villeneuve film...

Disney/MCU basically use the directors as beards to do what the producers actually want. Why do you think so many directors quit/leave these studios films during productions. They just need someone to sit in the seat, they don't actually care about the directors vision.

You don't put a bird in cage to watch it fly.

I wouldn't expect to see Denis do ANY super hero/disney stuff he's proven he's beyond the childs play.

He's probably reached Tarantino levels of creative control now with his projects, he's likely free to do WHATEVER he wants. (REAL CINEMA)

I was so appreciative of the other folks in my screening.

Was about 25-30 people total and i didn't hear a peep the entire time. Everyone was locked in.

That’s pretty much been the experience for be had on both screenings I’ve went to…

The only audible reactions were when Paul revealed that his mother was the daughter of Baron Harkonnen…Got a gasp out of a few people both times…

when stilgar was cheerleading that shh had me dying

I knew it was coming and I still couldn’t help it

The part when dude was telling everyone how humble Paul is because he said he’s not the one

But I purposely went late last night, I hate watching movies with a bunch of people
