Fast and Furious Thread: Hobbs and Shaw Spin Off 2019 - Tyrese career ending injury

I wouldn't consider 4 a reboot. 4 rejuvenated the franchise.

it's a bit of both to me because it winning at the box office the way it did allowed for them to go big with Fast Five

if I remember they expected it to gross like $30 million and it made close to $71 million on opening weekend

Come to think of it, the clearest spinoff they may have the best chance at doing is taking it back to Tokyo Drift. I don't think I want to see a whole film about Hobbs.

a film with just Hobbs is Eaaaasy to make dope, its basically a cut & paste rock action movie thats in da "furious" universe, and doesn't have to have any racing at all TBH.

once i saw that this franchise is banking in more money than da avengers MCU and its printing its own money, they gotta find a way to make spin offs to length and widen da universe.

it was a soft reboot, hence da redone prequel-esque storyline.

What current characters do they bring over into the Hobbs spinoff with Elena dead now?

Hobbs is a cop, you can buddy him up with ANYONE new and you can bring over Kurt Russell to play da Nick Fury role he currently plays delegating Mission duties.

da possibilites can be endless...

da title just has to say something like "a Fast & furious story" like Rogue Squadron.

and *poof* automatic spinoff.

They're gonna have to differentiate it someway from a cut and paste Rock action movie. Outside of these movies, I honestly don't care for most of his films. It's because he's in this universe why he works the way he does. I can't see what they can do to make it interesting. They can't chase mcguffins every film. They've surprised me so far with how long they lasted so maybe they can do something, but I just can't see it at the moment.

just to piggyback on your correct observation...

Fast & Furious' Shatters Box Office records.

Entertainment Weekly) -- In the first truly shocking box office result of the year, "Fast & Furious" sped away from expectations to gross a humongous $72.5 million, according to early estimates from Media by Numbers.

Paul Walker stars in "Fast & Furious," which exceeded expectations after taking in $72.5 million.

That result is effectively double what most industry observers had predicted for the debut of the fourth feature in Vin Diesel's car franchise, and it left in the dust a number of notable records:

- Best April opening ever, beating "Anger Management's" $42.2 million.

- Best Universal Pictures opening ever (three-day), beating "The Lost World: Jurassic Park's" $72.1 million.

- Best F&F franchise opening ever, beating "2 Fast 2 Furious'" $50.5 million.

- Best opening yet in 2009, easily beating the bows of the more-buzzed-about "Monsters vs. Aliens" ($59.3 million) and "Watchmen" ($55.2 million).

- Best opening ever for stars Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster, as well as for director Justin Lin.

Oh, and let's not forget that it was the best opening ever for a car-themed movie! (Beating "Cars'" $60.1 million.) This outcome is impressive, indeed, something that has caught Hollywood by surprise and has the potential to really change things up -- like when summer-esque blockbusters are released (rarely does one open so early in the year) and like, you know, what everyone thinks of Vin Diesel.

Don't Miss
EW.com: Box office top 10
The film did it all on the strength of a solid A- CinemaScore review from an audience that was 57 percent male and 59 percent over age 25. Like the jaw-dropping early-year debuts of "The Passion of the Christ" and "300" before it, this is a history-making premiere that you may well be hearing about for a long time to come.

So, yeah, I almost forgot to mention: "Fast & Furious" was the No. 1 movie at the box office this weekend.

Coming in strong at No. 2 was "Monsters vs. Aliens," which dropped a respectable 44 percent to earn $33.5 million. In 10 days, the 3-D extravaganza has banked $105.7 million.

"The Haunting in Connecticut" (No. 3 with $9.6 million), "Knowing" (No. 4 with $8.1 million), and "I Love You, Man" (No. 5 with $7.9 million) rounded out the top five. And the weekend's other big new release, "Adventureland," struggled with $6 million at No. 6.

Overall, the box office was up a monstrous 68 percent from the same frame a year ago, when holdover 21 outplayed a number of weak new movies, none of which had Vin Diesel ... whom you're going to start hearing a lot about, once again.

I could've sworn during the filming of F8 the rock was posting pictures of Hobbs on ig and saying something along the lines of dabbling into "hobbs past". It might've even included a motorcycle or it coulda been for a different movie

With Hobbs, they could do prequel type stuff and have Elaina back just like that.

Or Fuentes. :nerd:

Thing is, I don't think the actresses really want any more of this franchise, both just had kids in the last year or two didn't they?

They could just go back before Dom and his crew and show how Hobbs earned the rep that Brian talks about in Fast Five. Maybe even have him chasing Shaw(s) around the globe.

Street racing isn't enough anymore. Dom finished a street race on fire, going backwards. In Fast 1 that would've been more epic than the climax. Now it is just the prologue lol
He did it just because too.

they can do anything... they're not even constrained by source material like comic book movies are.

Universal is printing money with F&F.

I could watch a Hobbs spinoff if he was an actual character like in Fast Five instead of a caricature of the Rock where he just throws out catchphrases and bangs heads together like he's been in the last 3 movies.

I think 1 and 5 are the cream of the crop. I think people don't like 4 as much as some of the other films because it's the darkest in the series where the heroes aren't in a good place.

6 and 7 are basically just a bunch of action set pieces strung together with a REALLY flimsy plot. It doesn't help that some of the actions sequences are way over the top knowing the films are supposed to be set in the "real world."
