I think "Thoughts and prayers" is a great and powerful tool. But it is completely useless by itself. Positive thoughts and empathy for others is important. Appealing to a higher power for wisdom and comfort in challenging situations can be a catalyst for breakthrough. But stopping there is all most people seem to do these days. It's become a mockery. A lazy, uninspired cop-out that is direct opposition with the principles taught in the scriptures.
Those who truly care, seek wisdom and insight, and are ACTIVELY working towards resolutions to challenging issues are lumped in with the rest of the group. It's disheartening but we still must channel our energy both mental AND physical to manage what life throws our way. It's the step thats not taken, that is the step thats headed in the wrong direction.
"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." -James 2 14-16
