FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Had this discussion w/ my wife today...tuna fish and PB&J are the two sandwiches that are 100000% taste specific. Meaning the only person who makes them correctly, is you. Anyone else agree w/ this?
Definitely about the tuna fish. People like their tuna a very specific way. My wife likes a bit of boiled egg chopped up when making her tuna.

People are much more fogiving about pb&j. For me as long as the ratio is even I’m good.

For either though, I gotta have a good bread...

I'm VERY specific about my PB&J...almost need a 2:1 ratio of PB to jelly...arnold white bread, JIF, and smucker strawberry jelly. I'm worried about my sandwich tomorrow :lol

Tuna...I drain the **** outta mine. mix mayo/horseradish with some relish in there. Maybe a sprinkle of dill if im feeling fancy. hahaha

Yes. I have never had a PB&J or tuna sandwich made by someone else that I liked as much or more than the ones I make.

I like my PB&J on sourdough and I put yellow mustard in my tuna salad mix. Most people don’t.

I don’t like fish/seafood and I barely like tuna  I just like a small layer of it

Don’t know what she does but my moms pb&j’s are always better than mine. I never really toast them either

Sidenote

I went from skippy to Justin’s to teddie peanut butter. No looking back now

Speaking of tunafish...

Millennials are apparently killing canned tuna because opening a can is too much work for them, StarKist exec says

https://www.businessinsider.com/mil...tm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer-bi

:lol:Bruh these old cronies get in the boardroom and find a reason either pander to millennials or blame them for everything. Maybe it's time they start moving out these roles and start making space for millennials.

Definitely have eaten less packaged tuna, not sure why it's just one of those things you used to consume a lot that goes by the wayside like Heineken. When I do eat, this is my favorite

^^^I’m not a millennial and I honestly see no reason why any canned food product produced today (including pet food) should not have a pull tab opener. Sorry, can openers, but you had a good run.

I can agree with this completely.

I also add eggs to that discussion. Anytime I see pics of other people's eggs, they look horrible.

But culturally, eggs and anything with mayo is generally something that black folks are super cautious of.

"I can't eat everybodys eggs/tuna/potato salad" is a very common phrase

Aww damn jj... White bread!?!?! You get that from Target don't you. To each his own...

I gotta have at least a multi grain of some sort. A relative of mine once made me a pb&j with cinnamon raisin bread. It was actually pretty good but not something I'd do again (but I wouldn't refuse another one).

I'm pretty flexible about tuna fish though, just as long as it's not overly mayoee or overly mustardy, etc. I always judge a deli on how good they are based on how good their tuna or chicken salad samich is. If they make that right, then I know the deli should be ok.

This samich talk got me jonesing for a good shrimp salad samich...

Edit - I do like egg salad to be a bit on the mustardy side though with bits of relish.

Chopped cheese never needs to be elevated. Perfect with the grease and all from the bodega b. But I am ready to see this. :nerd:
That can be said about a lot of popular foods. I think a traditional burger is perfect as is, but I'm not mad at the offshoots and "elevated" versions if they're done tastefully.

Anywho, got some onions caramelizing low and slow now. Copped a 5-cut 80/20 blend with chuck, brisket, short rib, hanger, and ribeye trim that I'm gonna put my bodega seasoning on. Also got an egg semolina hero roll and some sweet & spicy bacon.

You're gonna like the way it looks. I guarantee it.

Coming through with the heat, as per usual.

How was Turkey and the Wolf? Probably gonna be taking a vacation down to NOLA this winter and that's on my list.

I can do not toasted but I prefer it toasted lightly. I can also do crunchy or smooth peanut butter to. I'm cool with either grape jelly or strawberry jelly/jam. Some people are very particular about only using grape jelly doe.

Never heard of peanut butter & jelly "samiches"?

Have you ever had a hot dog? Burger & fries? Mac & cheese? A milkshake?

Stop through Baltimore & PM me... I'll fix you one...

I could be wrong, but I think what he was saying that he’s never heard of anyone toasting the bread for a PB&J; not that he’s never heard of them at all.

As for me, I prefer non-toasted bread. Chunky peanut butter and strawberry preserves, preferably with a glass of icy cold milk. When I was a kid, my mom made PB&Js with Welch’s Grape Jelly. I liked it back then, but a little too sweet for me now.
