FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Is any steak worth $160?

I guess, I am asking if there is a SIGNIFICANT enough difference between a $50 and a $160 that makes the price point what it is?

Or are you paying for the experience?

You're gonna pay for the experience no matter what but Steak is one of the few foods in which the quality increases with the price. So there is definitely a difference between a $50 and a $160 steak. Howver, you won't know you've been hustled until you try them. Some places will like to you that their steak is Prime or Wagyu.

gonna be in LA in two weeks, now i gotta decide which steakhouse you guys mentioned

My list broken down by budget:

1. Black Angus - Cool place if you trying to feed a family or a small group. Steak isn't out of the world but it gets the job done. Affordable. Steaks are like $30

2. Houston's in Pasadena or Rosecrans - A little more expensive but cheaper than a steakhouse. Steak is really really good and tender. A little more expensive than a chain like Black Angus but much better. Steaks are around $40-$50 a pop I believe

3. Mastros in Bevery Hills or Boa Steakhouse in Santa Monica. My best steak experiences so far. These two are of the few places to serve Wagyu. Even if you don't get Wagyu it's worth it. From Mastros, my girl had a well done steak and it was better than most chains. Cooked as perfect as well done can get. Boa Steakhouse, I had the Wagyu and was the best steak I've ever had. Steaks will run you for $60 and up. Wagyu at Boa was about $28 an ounce. Definitely a special occasion type place.

I just have a general rule of not paying for things I could easily make just as well (or better) myself.

My only exceptions are when I'm in a hurry or if it's cheap enough (ex: egg sandwiches, Shake Shack/Five Guys/CFA, etc.).

thank you for this. I was actually gonna decide between Mastros and Boa. I'll look up the tier 2 ones too

but damn Black Angus is a throwback for me  my family used to take me there growing up, they would send us coupons in the mail for free appetizers. I remember the potato skins:pimp::pimp:
