FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

For those thaT say CA, how are YOU measuring that?

Honest question. I come in peace.

In various road trips that I've taken to CA (as recently as this past June), I've traveled all through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, both southern routes and northern routes. When you go to a restaurant somewhere else in the country that specializes in Southwestern food, there's a reason they have pics/license plates/memorabilia of those 3 states. You walk in, order a jalapeño burger, maybe nachos with "cheddar cheese sauce" & sour cream, perhaps some bell peppers stuffed w/ beans & corn, topped with... sour cream. See, all of those menu items and their kin run freely throughout the streets in those 3 states, with their shirts off, even.

Not in CA. Do those menu items and others similar exist in establishments in California? Obviously, yes. But the majority of your authentic, corn-tortilla-serving Mexican establishments definitely keep those wayward TexMex/Southwestern food items in check.

The streets of Arizona/New Mexico/Texas are run by sour cream & jalapeno poppers; the streets of southern California are run by corn tortillas & fresh pico de gallo.

My wagyu order came in some days ago. Some A5 Miyazaki fillets, NY strips, ribeyes, wagyu cubes, rack of lamb, duck breasts, burger patties, got some free chimichurri skirt steaks and pork chops

Got around to cooking the A5 and ribeye last night

How much did this cost?

Why are we assuming there isn't also plenty of corn tortillas and Authentic Mexican food outside of California?
I was going off of Texas and California. Being in Texas for a little over a year, and being originally from California and living there for 29, California has better authentic Mexican food. Texas had a lot of Tex mex, or “authentic” food with variants.

Now if we debate other states, I still think California is better. New Mexico is alright, Phoenix I’ve had some great options. But LA and the Bay Area definitely reign supreme when it comes to all categories, price points, and atmosphere closest to actual Mexico.

lol @ Texas not having a lot of traditional Mexican food.
It makes sense that an out of towner came to Texas and tried tex mex. 100% Guaranteed darthska darthska just didn't know where to go.
Where did you go in Texas btw?

Well, Tex mex talk made me make some nachos. This is post oven melt pre veggies

Literally no one said that.

'Which is better Mexican cuisine?' doesn't mean 'The other one doesn't have a lot of traditional Mexican.'

Question: do you have extensive experience with southern California Mexican?
