That was a bold and brilliant plan. He got rid of someone who could have been a threat to him, aligned the riverlords, got Daemon what he wanted and had him do the dirty work! RIP Willem Blackwood.

As much as Rhynera made a good decision to try to win this war and it ended up working out this is honestly as bad a decision as Cole parading the dragon head through the streets when it comes to maintaining the longtime importance of House Targaryen. Both moves greatly demystify them. Jace was salty especially about it messing up his claim of importance because he’s so obviously a bastard but in general he’s right this does make them seem less all powerful and important as a House.
