With all of these positives (thread and real life) you would think there will be real actual immunity in the community for a bit. Do we know how fast we can get reinfected with omicron?
I’ve seen anecdotal reports from South Africa that people who got Omicron once are being reinfected with Omicron. The sharp drop is cases has begun to stall.

If this is true, can’t see how it will remotely end anything. You can’t expect people to isolate every few weeks.

As with any respiratory virus, there’s nothing stopping viral particles from being inhaled. My guess is that circulating antibodies would quickly neutralize the virus and cause few symptoms, if any. But if you administer a PCR test on someone who was re-exposed you will definitely find infections.

I'd like to think our incredibly complicated and well-tested immune systems are able to figure this out eventually...

The open question isn't necessarily whether we can get reinfected (which should be only more mild if one has a functioning immune system), but if our immune system's ability to generalize (boosted by administration of updated vaccines) will outpace the ability of the virus to generate new variants.

anybody here got long covid after getting the rona? or know someone who did.
I know somebody that’s been battling long covid symptoms since around late September/early October. He’s had on and off nausea, headaches, lethargy. He’s been seeing all types of specialists and undergoing tests to try and find a solution to all these ailments, but nothing yet.

My GF and I just had a conversation about to how navigate these times right now. She tested positive last Wednesday (1/6) but tested negative this week on Monday and Tuesday through rapid tests. I’m being precautious when I’ll see her she cause still has a cough and we don’t live together either. I canceled our trip to Joshua tree for her birthday next but now because I’ve canceled two trips via Covid concerns (last Valentine’s Day cause I got Covid and vaccines weren’t available for me yet), I’m being penalized for not keeping my word on plans because I don’t want to get sick again or anyone in my family sick again (mom and dad last year). It’s just frustrating to know that the times we’re living in aren’t normal for everyone and she doesn’t see it that way and wants to do things as if it was normal. Sorry I had to rant y’all.

damn bro, no bs what bro is going through is legit my top 2 biggest fears when it comes to rona. i still feel like we aren't talking about this enough and it seems like there hasn't been any updates on this situation.

also, was he vaccinated when he caught it?

Wait, you're getting penalized by your GF for cancelling two trips because of COVID? This is after the fact you got COVID before vaccines weren't readily available and that she just tested positive last Thursday? She's trippin.

You are looking out for the health of yourself and your family. If she can't see that, you need to let her know.

Hello. I’m sorry these difficult times are leading to difficult conversations, disagreements, and possible arguments for you and your GF. I don’t know much about your relationship but you shouldn’t be “penaLized” for what you described. She sounds extremely selfish/egotistical. Health is more important than anything, and she shouldn’t be getting upset over the difficulties of trying to plan normal things during a pandemic.

These are not normal times. These are unprecedented times. Plans change. I feel fortunate that me and my GF are on the same page in that regard. We both agree that even if we have to cancel a dream vacation and don’t get any of the money back, health/safety is STILL the most important thing. It’s just money. It’s just a birthday. They’re just pictures. Can’t have any of those things if you are dead, so focus on being alive.

You shouldn’t have to defend yourself. Tell her to be more mature and be more serious and understanding of the PANDEMIC that’s going on, or break up with her. Not taking covid seriously is the biggest turn off ever. Link her to this thread if you need to.

Child hood friend got the Rona may 2020 and still has Lonf Covid. He can’t do any cardio or anything that’s physically demanding as he has trouble breathing.

Now before he got the Rona he did smoke cigs in the past. But this man was in terrific shape. Boxing gym 3x per week and weight lifting 3-4x per week. But Covid has stopped all of that even to this day.

Makes sense. The first infection usually is always the worst. Eventually everyone will get it and know how their body reacts.

So, without saying too much because it's actually a student of mine. His mother shared that he had just gotten the second shot when he caught Covid. They thought what he was going through were exaggerated effects from the vaccine, but the doctors said it wasn't the case and that he had actually been infected when he got the second dose and was asymptomatic at the time.

Kind of sucks because I'd really wish he was able to come back and tell his peers how crummy he's had it so they could take it a little more seriously around here.

I thought about posting an update, but there's not a lot to say.

I returned to Denmark from NYC January 1st. 2020 with pneumonia and have had nerve damage ever since. Spent the last two years trying to find out, if I caught Covid early-early, before we could test and identify cases. Last two months I've been connected to a long covid clinic and while they consider my symptoms to be long covid, they can't really offer anything but occupational therapy. Basically to live healthily and hope it goes away. I've been living with this **** for two years now and consider it to be permanent. I can easily live with the numbness and lack of sensation in my face, fingers and feet, but the internal tremors and great discomfort in my chest, prevents me from sleeping, relaxing and concentrating. I have other health problems, so luckily this doesn't affect me financially, but my quality of life has dropped significantly.

The big positive is that the LC clinic considers my symptoms to be legit, after I spent the last 19 months being dismissed by one MD or specialist after another. My family, who never believed me, finally shut up, after I was accepted by the clinic.

Despite all of this, I'm in a pretty good place.

damn man, sorry to hear. Keep up the fight!

Long covid is really my only fear about getting this disease. I'm a BA when it comes to not feeling my best. And I also don't know what the affects are 5, 10, 15 years from now, know what I mean?
