Last flight I took I moved seats twice and no one said ****. One flight my whole fam moved seats to be close together and no one blinked. It is that easy.

As far as OP story goes, shoulda pushed harder to get a different seat, should've explained why you want to move and reasoned with dude.. not offered to buy him a drink or food. I would've put on an oxygen mask myself and took a nap, b. Landed and found the nearest Emergen-C possible and you'd be straight. No need to go through a long flight upset for a seating arrangement.

You should save that oxygen mask for when youre done slurping op
