Kobe Bryant = PLAYER OF THE CENTURY???

Some of you guys are straight up disrespecting Tim Duncan :smh:
Dude is the epitome of consistency. And Duncan never had nearly the same level of talent on his teams as Kobe did (does).

NEVER? You can not be serious.

Duncan has had Parker and Manu on his team for 10 years now. Those dudes are better than any player any teammate Kobe had not named Shaq. Shaq has not been on the team for 8 years now.

The Spurs would trade both of them for Pau Gasol NOW.

Anyone want to tell me why kobe never got a finals mvp during the shaq era 3peat???

2000 NBA Finals

Shaq- 38 PPG, 17 RPG, 2.5 APG, 2.7 BPG, 61% FG 96/157----6 games
Kobe-16 PPG, 5 RPG, 4 APG, 1.4 BPG, 36% FG%, 33/90----5 games

MVP= Shaq. Shaq performs MUCH better than Bryant who shoots a pathetic 36 percent. Also Shaq was doubled covered while Kobe was left with less coverage but even then Shaq did much better.

2001 NBA Finals

Shaq- 33 PPG, 16 RPG, 5 APG, 3.5 BPG, 63/110 57% FG-----5 games
Kobe- 24 PPG, 8 RPG, 6 APG, 1.4 BPG, 44/106 41% FG------5 games

MVP= Shaq. Shaq performs MUCH better than Bryant who shoots 41%.. Also Shaq was doubled covered while Kobe was left with less coverage but even then Shaq did much better.

2002 NBA Finals

Shaq- 37 PPG, 12.25 RPG, 4 APG, 2.75 BPG, 50/84 60% FG----4 games
Kobe-26 PPG, 5.75 RPG, 5 APG, .75 BPG, 36/70 51% FG-------4 games

MVP= Shaq again. Same old story- Shaq gets doubled coverage yet he still out performs Kobe big time.

Total average stats for 3 championships (15 games)=

Shaq=36 PPG, 15.4 RPG, 3.7 APG, 3 BPG, 209/351 60% FG, Double coverage
Kobe=20 PPG, 6 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1 BPG, 113/266 42% FG, Single coverage

Also, not just Finals MVP, but why was Kobe NEVER league MVP during that timeframe as well? Anyone??

Well, Shaq only got one MVP in that time frame and it was in 2000 when Kobe was still improving. You figure that the most dominant big man of all time would end up with more than one MVP during a 3-peat, but after 2000, Shaq got none for the same reason Kobe never got one: they used to get split votes between the two during these years so it was hard for either one of them to win the MVP award because they were both essential to the other's success.

That's still one more than what Kobe had while they were together. Just goes to show that Kobe was Robin while him and Shaq were together. Either way for a guy who is suppose to be the greatest of all-time as so many of the Kobe lovers in here have claimed why is it that Kobe only has been able to get 1 measly league MVP award during his career.

There are going to be extremists on both sides, the haters are going to make him out to be a role player like Steve Kerr and some of the "lovers" are going to say he was better than MJ. The objective people know he wasn't either, but he was still a great player who was just as important as Shaq during the championship years.

there is no question who was the better of the 2 during the 3 peat we talkin shaq in his PRIME and a developing kobe thats common sense. with that being said kobe was extremely essential to shaqs success and visa versa. kobe was never a steve kerr, a scottie yes but not a kerr and thats no knock on him he was a good player playing with a great player...

You almost had it right until the very end champ. Other than that just like Kobe..............you did the best you could.

It's funny all the stuff anti Kobe's come up with, riding Shaq and all that, but he was a top 5 player in the entire league at that time.

He was all NBA from 01 on. He was 2nd team all NBA in 2000, and that was after missing 6 weeks with a broken hand.

So was Shaq a "better" player, than a 21 year old? Sure. Was Kobe some run of the mill good player? Not even close. He was one of the 5 best players in the NBA. The Lakers were just smart enough to have 2 of those 5. :smokin

That's great and all champ, but at the end of the day Kobe was #2 on his team. That's not Kobe's fault, but it is what it is. There's big brother, and then there's little brother.............there's Batman and then there's Robin.

this guy literally posts the same things in every kobe/lakers thread  :smh:

kobe still got yall mad :pimp:

Ironically little brother has more work ethic and determination than big brother. He also have more success than big brother

If Kobe was Robin then he was a better Robin then any other #2 out there in NBA history. A nearly unstoppable force and avg nearly 30 ppg during 2001 playoff .

I chuckled when i heard MJ stans say Kobe had the same impact as Pippen lol.

Put prime Shaq on the 90s Bulls and Phil would have order MJ to pass the ball inside to Shaq first on offense. That would give Shaq more opportunity to have more points and impact then MJ and that alone would make MJ look like Robin according to you MJ stans.

Funny how Kobe haters completely ignored the fact that the teams the Lakers play in the West playoff were better than the team they play in the Finals

The Spurs, Kings, Portland etc would have made the Finals on the pathetic weak eastern conference.

Just look at what Kobe did to the Spurs, Kings and Blazer. Somehow all that work get sweep under the rug

The 2nd and 3rd Finals was a cakewalk. The West Playoff was where the real Finals happened during those years

Funny how Kobe lovers only talk about a few games Kobe actually stepped up and did something during CERTAIN playoff series but not about what he did or more so didn't do during the regular seasons or the rest of the playoffs including the Finals. With that being said some players get carried and some players do the carrying which leaves us with this......................

Interesting point that hasn't been made in this thread in regards to the MVP discussion...

The "rape" case totally destroyed KB's pr image at the time (in his athletic prime), stern wouldn't even dare pondering naming him MVP after that, it took so much for him to rebuild and make people forget, which almost impossibly, he did.

Some interesting food for thought, imagine if he never got hit with the "rape" case....:wow:

And t-mac wouldn't have survived a month in Phil's system, athletically blessed as he was, my dood had 0 work ethic and team moral. Shaq probably would have stumped his career IMO.
