**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Lonzo, LaVine and Demar balled out.

AC didn't have to do anything but play his role.
AC scores 0 but is a +28

THT scores 28 and is a -4

Carsuo’s impact has been sorely missed on this team, it’s been apparent…

Our record makes us look better than we actually are.

We have LeBron james (on borrowed time) but we can’t expect him in year 19 to carry us all the way…ESPECIALLY when you brought in RUSS.

We almost 1/4th in, patterns & habbits are forming and they aren’t good ones.

Unfortunately, we gonna need LeBron more than we thought this year.

STOP

We got smacked and he was only a -5... For reference AD was a -21 in 3 quarters if you wanna use a silly stat like that to prove someone's value in a blowout

talen scores 28 was a -17

I’m not a fan of plus/minus stats, so that means very little to me. It’s ultimately depends a lot on the lineups you play with and against…so obviously if DDR, Zach and Lonzo are on fire as long as Caruso is on the floor with them he’ll have a higher plus minus than THT.

I dunno, I watch the games different probably….I don’t care as much for his dunks or flashy plays, it’s his energy off the bench, the way he harrass the other teams best scorer, it’s the hands getting into the passing lanes, the deflections, the diving on the floor, the putting his body on the line every night…..all that blue collar stuff that no one is doing for us right now…it’s these guys that win you the championships.

Guys who want to be STARS in their role……we got 0 of that right now (maybe melo, he’s done well what we have asked so far)

I remember last few years frank and LeBron talking about the defensive intensity in practice and how that carries over into the games.

having a guy like AC in practice keep you honest, he’s gonna get after it everyday in practice.

I’m curious as to what these practices be looking like

also curious what the bulls defense rating is, I bet it’s high.

That’s fair bro, I like AC for most of the same reasons you posted. Honestly I think last night was a perfect example of the argument for and against keeping Caruso. Surround him with enough offensive talent where he can mostly focus on the defense and intangibles and he’ll shine. Put him in another situation where you need him to do those things as well as bring something consistently on offense and you’ll see the warts.

Again, it’s not a knock on Alex…we know who he is and what he brings to the table. Lakers could obviously use him, but at the same time we also saw the Lakers put the ball in THT’s hand at the end of that Spurs game and he delivered. I don’t know if that shows up in +/- but the Lakers definitely need that as well

Again

coulda had both.

I don’t care about Jeanie’s pockets

Yeah I hear you grittyman grittyman

I like THT too obviously he’s a different player than caruso with more upside, but we don’t need him scoring 28 on this team really? Ya know? We have AD, LJ, and RW….offense is already crowded….thats why the AC loss hurts me so much, he was a defensive SPECIALIST and didn’t need the ball to be an impact player….THATS A GEM IN TODAYS NBA.

if talen ain’t scoring, he ain’t doing much for us…and I don’t mean that in a negative way, scoring isn’t our problem.

now if he can become the defensive specialist AC was for US, he can be a star.

I understand what you’re saying, and while this team needs to improve in ALL areas the offense is more of a concern for me at the moment.

Out of 30 teams the Lakers rank 23rd in offense…last I checked before the Bulls game. Of course this includes the non-Lebron games but still. At the same time defensively they’re 15th at the moment. Think about the losses…GS, Thunder, Wolves…leading at half or maybe even through 3 quarters and at half they can’t score.

Turnovers and missed shots (especially threes = long rebounds) that turn into transition offense/fast break opportunities to opponents… and that’s a death wish for this slow team.

Check this out at about the 1:45 mark, Gil talks about surrounding AD and Lebron with more scoring and he uses Caruso as an example. Check it out and let me know what you think, because I feel like this is logic behind the change in roster construction this season.

😭

this man is shooting 3's now too

I'm convinced they signed westbrook only because bron and ad wanted someone else to hang out with who they knew well.

our mediocre play will probably bring bron back too soon.
Interesting. I never heard about this
So was it a sign and trade for kuzma Harrell kcp?

That woulda hard capped us meaning we lose both THT and Caruso

Yeah I agree with alex’s shortcomings on offense….but somehow we made it work and won a championship with bad shooting that year?

regardless, without getting too deep in insignificance….

I miss AC, and not because he was white or could jump, but because he did all the things “cool guys” don’t want to do in todays league…dood is a star for doing dirty work…can’t teach that to kids today, all they wanna do is score in the most difficult ways possible.

🤷‍♂️

I'm kinda starting to think the Russ trade was more of a hail Mary to win a chip before Bron's contract is up and primarily a contingency plan for the post Bron reload. If it works great, if not you have a huge expiring to trade or a crapload of cap space freed up. Russ has to be Chris Bosh in order for it to work. Focus on defense, take advantage of opportunities created by Bron and AD and just get in where you fit in.

THT is 20 years old and hasn't played 82 games yet. His ceiling might even be higher than I thought. Doing everything he showed in the g league

For the 19900000000th time

We coulda had both Caruso and tht. And then traded Caruso for a wing later.

it’s called GM 101

Lakers could have also tried to facilitate a sign and trade with Dennis…to at least avoid losing another asset for nothing but somehow no one seems to really want to talk about that one.

Shroeder was in bad standing with lakers and he was an absolute ******* nobody liked.

Caruso wasn’t.

But you’re right. It’s a fail for the lakers to have traded green and a first rounder for him and see him go for nothing. Again, bad GMing

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Watching Steph makes me wonder when we’ll have a PG who can really shoot. It’s been 20+ years of:

Ron Harper
Gary Payton
Smush Parker
Steve Blake
Jeremy Lin
Kendall Marshall
Marcelo Huertas
Lonzo (year 1 and 2 side of backboard and airball Lonzo)
Rondo
Schroeder
Caruso
Russ
