**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

He’s not blameless, but shouldering majority of the blame, nah.

😂 If the Lakers were able to land Kyrie this past summer, what would y'all have said? Like ppl are trying to be obtuse here. Why I don't know, just call a spade a spade. LeGM isn't a moniker made up out of the blue.

Bron stans always blame the organization which I've always found hilarious.

But at this point I don't care. I need Lebron to act like Lebron and force himself out.

That man isn't winning anything again unless he forces himself to a good situation and at this point of his career, who wants him?

Is LeBron on the phone negotiating that deal w/Marks?Unless you wanna call Pelinka a puppet GM

I’ll say this that nobody in this situation is blameless, they’ve made catastrophic mistakes.I think one thing we can agree on is Pelinka shouldn’t have gotten an extension and he’s a horrible GM

It is what it is with the LeGm stuff. This isn’t the NFL. Superstar players have more power and more of a say in personnel moves, and if the team doesn’t accommodate that. They have the means of letting their feelings be known.

Yeah, organizations and GM’s should nip that in the bud. And maybe they will after seeing the whole Nets fiasco, giving those guys the key the organization and it blowing up in their face.

But what irks me is when Lebron tried to distance himself from personnel moves which had his influence but blew up in their face. I don’t remember the exact quote. But it was around the all star break last season. But he said something along the lines of how he’s just a player and how he doesn’t make personnel moves. Like get the hell out of here with that. Ultimately those are Robs moves to make. But don’t sit here and act like you had no say in them knowing damn well you would’ve made obvious you were unhappy if moves were made without consulting you.

They could still hire a day to day GM as let Pelinka make the big picture decisions *shivers*

But they would probably turn around and hire Jay Mohr in that GM role.

3D Chess
Rob and Jeanie making sure Lebron doesn’t catch Kobe. But y’all not ready for that discussion

So that means...

Mostly what it comes down to me is that theLakers are bad because Lebron and AD (Russ too if you want to include him) aren’t good enough to carry a team anymore.

Other than that, hey there were a couple of teams that put all their chips in the past few years trying to win a title…LAL, LAC, BK, can probably put Minn in that group as well. Only the Lakers came out it with a chip, as a fan I don’t have a whole lot of regrets the way things have turned out. Now I don’t have a ton of faith in Pelinka to be the guy to navigate the franchise during a rebuild at all.

I think both (together obviously) are capable of carrying a FORMIDABLE team.

AD still dominates that paint and protects the rim very well.

LJ can find guys open shots in his sleep and get to the rack at will still.

But you have to surround them with the right complimentary pieces. Legit SHOT MAKERS, sell out defenders and a capable center.

It’s the shot making that’s killing us, can’t make shots and it’s effected our confidence which has trickled down to our defense now.

You can have great defense but it don’t mean **** if you can’t score. You can have below average defense and still try to out score teams.

No shot making nor size (interior and perimeter).

"If I was the Lakers, I would go for it now and move assets. Because if it doesn't work out, I could move Anthony Davis later and regain a bunch of assets.

But you have to pick a direction. There in the middle right now. There in the middle, but they ******* suck."

Also throwing Eric Gordon into a Buddy/Turner trade for just KNunn and a 2nd rounder? Not much perimeter defense but :wow: at the firepower you'd be bringing in.

I think they’re capable of carrying if all all the stars are aligned… good health, shots falling, Bron has his legs under him, etc.

They can still do their thing in spurts… Bron has his issues finishing in traffic and AD has issues with his jump shot.

Short sample size but has either had a “great game” this season? I haven’t seen it, some good games and great moments but not really seem to have been able to put together an extended stretch of dominant ball.

I would love to be wrong, there’s still a lot of basketball yet to be played so we’ll see.

Who is the best gm in the league?
Very difficult question.

Like coaches, they have good runs and bad runs. Lots of luck involved. It’s based on a scale of positive and negative moves

The worst ones are those that constantly make bad moves and don’t learn from mistakes.

Tim Connolly was the genius that found Jokic, hyland, MPJ, almost found Bol Bol too. All while working for an owner that refused to pay a penny of tax.

But then he lays a big time egg as the new GM of the Wolves with a head scratching all in move for a team 2 years away from actually competing.

David griffins first move was trading AD for a big haul - tricking Pelinka into negotiating against himself. Then follows it up with a head scratching string of moves that didn’t compliment his best players. Oh and hired SVG to coach. Everyone said he was a terrible gm at the time. Fast forward two years and now he made a great move for Mccollum, got Larry nance too. Found the gems herb jones and Alvarado in the bargain bin and did well on his mid-teens pick in Murphy. Traded a non fitting Adams for Valencunas and now looks like a genius.

Pelinka looked like a genius with the 19-20 roster. He did well on Howard vs Noah signing. Great pickup in Morris. Great coaching hire all while playing behind eight ball with magic quitting. He looked pretty good with the Schroeder and Harrell deals too. Fast forward, he double down on those moves (going small) and has done an awful job since. He doesn’t seem to have learned much. Continues to employ small guards. Will he have a Griffin level resurgence? Will he be able to trade pat bev and Nunn and 1 first for turner? Will he be able to flip Russ and 1 first for Harris and Kyrie? IF IF IF he does and team fits and competes. Then all of a sudden he looks like a genius again. If he does, and they don’t fit and both leave in FA. Well then he’s an idiot again.

Tldr: pelinka sucks…til he makes an awesome move. (He won’t)

Jon Horst
It was him or Bob Myers for me. I think the the 4 championships in 6 Finals runs over the last 8 years really shows how complete of a team Bob Myers has built, especially when you consider how many moving pieces there have been and the fact that Klay basically went back-to-back injured seasons.
