**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Redick: "We'd love to at some point get a 5-man, a big, bruising 5-man...you look at the western conference right now, whether its DEN, MIN, OKC, and certainly Memphis they're back in the hunt, they added Zach Edey. In certain matchups in the playoffs, you're gonna need a lot of size."

Repeat after me small ballers. 5x

Had crazy reception issues at Thomas & Mack so couldn’t really post during the game. This Vegas heat has been draining to say the least and I’m ready to come home. Anyhow, took a couple of pics that you guys might like…

😂

I’ve been going to NBA Summer League games since the Pyramid and Vegas is always a fun experience but it’s more about the atmosphere than it is the actual games…

Thinking about some of the things that stood out to me TODAY… and by no means is any of this a final verdict on any of these players

Knecht
- Not that I thought he was a small dude but he’s bigger than I thought in person.
- Made some tough shots today, def showed a scorer’s mentality.
- Didn’t really see a lot of creativity with the ball.. saw him drive left a few times and do the same hesi move and kinda overpower his defender to the basket. That’s not something that I think is going to translate right away against your typical NBA player
- Had a couple nice passes too, don’t think I recall hearing that much about that part of his game.

Bronny
- Remember seeing that in the combine he weighed something like 205-210… no way he’s anywhere near that now, maybe 190-ish?
- Of course he shot horribly but I was trying to watch his mechanics and something def seems off… like he goes into his dip but then doesn’t elevate much on the release… don’t really remember at the point.
- But one thing I do remember is being disappointed with his motor today…especially after the game had been decided. There were a few instances in the second half on transition plays where he didn’t even run down the court, if I noticed I’m sure JJ and the staff did as well.
- Just didn’t seem like a confident player, and today he gave me “too cool for school” vibes.

Max Lewis
- Nothing that I can remember except for thinking too thin, didn’t seem overly athletic and he has no feel for the game… everything he did felt rushed and out of control.

Nothing really in the others… game was really hard to watch. Bronny and Max seemed like the best athletes on the floor for the Lakers, but compared to the Rockets players it was like they were moving in slow motion.

Great post man. You really took me back when you mentioned the Pyramid

One of the best memories of my life was getting to Niketown Newport Beach at 3 am to stand in line and cop the black/cement 3’s with my best friend. Then afterwards going to the Pyramid to watch a 41 year old Magic Johnson drop a triple double at the summer league. This was in 2001. I went almost every year after that until it moved to Vegas. Good old days.

My last time at the CSULB SPL and my last memory of the Pyramid SPL games:

Went with my late Pops in ‘03 to watch the Lakers

He was weak from cancer and was having a difficult time going up the bleachers. There was no assigned seating so we just had to find a couple empty seats, just like a high school game.

Anyway, we found a couple of empty seats about 10 rows up but these two dudes had a couple backpacks on the bleachers as if to save the spots for someone.

I called out and asked if the seats were taken as my pops was huffing and puffing from walking up the bleachers. The two dudes said they were taken.

So Pops and I proceeded to walk up like 8 rows higher til we found a couple seats.

The game went on, a few minutes went by, it’s almost halftime and I went down to the snack bar and got Pops and I some grub. As I was walking back up to our seats, I noticed nobody ever had taken those two seats the two dudes claimed they was saving for someone.

So I asked them again, “hey bro, are those seats taken cause it doesn’t look like they are and I got my dad who has cancer and he would like to sit closer so he doesn’t have to walk so high up the bleachers”

Dude said yeah they’re taken. So I went back up 8 more rows to sit with Pops.

Another 30 minutes go by and I noticed nobody ever occupied those seats.

Fast forward to the end of the game and as Pops and I were walking back down the bleachers, I confronted those two individuals who LIED to us and gave them a piece of my mind.

A scene and an argument ensued, and my Dad, 49-years old at the time and dying of lung cancer, transformed and acted like he was 25 again as I saw the look in his face (that look I’ve seen all my life growing up when he’s beyond angry), and I just remember seeing Pops looking straight at these two dudes and Pops pointing his finger right at the guy who lied and just looked at him with no words coming out my dad’s mouth and stared at him like he was gonna kill him soon as we got in the parking lot

Meanwhile I’m this outspoken 27-28 year old guy who didn’t take no xxxx from nobody and seeing Pops get agitated like that knowing he was too weak to scrap with those dudes so I immediately got in front of my Pops and told the clowns to take it outside. By this time security escorted us and the two dudes out to our cars to make sure nothing was gonna happen and that was that.

I’m sure those two lying 🤡’s at some point received their bad karma for treating my Pops the way they did

Got in the car and I told my Dad “Looks like you still got it Pops. Love you man”

Today, I’m damn near the same age as my dad was that crazy day in ‘03. All these years later and I now understand why I’m just like my Pops. We both say it how it is, call it like it is, we stand for what’s right, we back up the underdog, and most of all don’t take no bs from LIARS.

Like father like son. Miss him to this day.

I have his Lakers deep purple Harley now, but I’d rather him be alive to ride it today

R.I.P. to pops 🙏🏽

If Pelinka wants an impact two-way 7-footer who can be super effective playing both the 5-out and 2-Big offenses, and has a decent contract - look no further than…

Poeltl is with the Raptors. Same team GTJ plays for.

Rob needs to make this happen

*Not Laker related… but it was posted in this thread so I guess it’s fair game 😂

Anyhow I saw several posts the other day about Brunson giving up $100+ million but this puts it into a different perspective…

Obviously it comes down to taking the guaranteed money now vs betting on yourself and getting an extra $37 mil… all things considered as a smaller guard and thinking about how the Celtics did IT I’d probably take the money now too, but that’s just me.

While I hate what Nike turned into with getting releases now and the prices and all of the other shenanigans and kobes should be readily available. People should have been copping Kobes back in the day like some of us.
