really? skyfire, its not even released on an android platform yet which i believe is the 2nd best OS for smartphones right now

skyfire is only on old windows mobile and nokia phones that arent relevant anymore

windows users and nokia CAN view flash all day , but the browsing experience is no where near the iphone as of right now, the only phone that can probably make a case is the n900 but that phone isnt even in discussion of anything

and this is coming from a nexus one and former g1 user

ooh but thats right, apparently anyone who defends iphone must be on steve jobs nuts

Really?
So then everyone who owns an iPhone is a blind loyalist who only buys apple products even though there are better phones out there?

Dude, Apple just reported today that they had their best non holiday quarter in the history of the company. EVER.

http://www.nytimes.com/20.../technology/21apple.html

Now i know that more sales does not necessarily mean a better phone but in this case it does.

What you need to understand is that that iPhone as a whole, OS, iTunes + store, Safari, iPod... ETC. is a better overall phone.

The integration of all these apple services makes it one of the best phones to use (which no one else can replicate). The simplicity and familiarity of it is what people like. It has everything you need in a simple format that people understand and LIKE better than everything else.

Now please, don't lie about this. Have you ever own an iPhone? If you haven't you wont understand. And if you have and weren't satisfied, then move on to phones you dub better.

Right now the iPhone is on top, and things might still be getting better.

You are an Apple loyalist. You come into every Apple thread claiming everything Apple makes is the best when they're not.

I've used an iPhone plenty of times. I know exactly how an iPhone works. Read the specs and everything. There is absolutely nothing remarkable about it.

The OS is good, I'll give them that.
iTunes + app store: The apps are nice, but nothing at all remarkable.
Safari: FireFox >>> Safari (a la N900)
iPod: You act like other phones don't have MP3 players.

Other than the OS, nothing remarkable about the iPhone, not event the apps.

Sales mean nothing.
The Next iPhone, Dissected
We took apart the next iPhone. (they say it so calmly...yeah...we defiled your property...
roll.gif
)

There are a number of interesting facts gained from the dissection, the most important of which is more concrete confirmation (as if weneeded any more) that this phone is from Apple. There are threeseparate places, inside the case, where APPLE is written prominently.

Upon unscrewing the bottom two screws—just like with the 3GS—you canuse a suction cup and pry off the back portion of the phone, not thefront like on iFixit's 3GS teardown. Once open, you'll notice that thebattery takes up around 50% of the phone, give or take. Very impressive.

Divingdeeper becomes much trickier. There are a total of around 40-50 screwsinside the phone, positioned at various angles that are almostfrustratingly impossible to get to. Components can be removed anddetached from other components. There are a handful of pieces likethis. But you don't know which ones are meant to detach, because youdon't have the manual. Once you get all the screws off and pry off thepieces that connect the micro-SIM, the camera, the on/off switch andvolume buttons, you're ready to access the brains.

The main logic board is one very weird piece of this puzzle. Unlike the iPhone 3GS teardown, which revealed a large logic boardalong with another part down by the dock connector, this design onlyhas something maybe 1/3 of the size, along with one or two extraneousparts. Basically, the guts have shrunk drastically.

Unfortunately for us, Apple intends to keep this a secret. There are no markings on the board, but even so, the board was encasedin metal all around so nothing could get through and would be verydifficult to remove without breaking the device. Anyone trying to takethis part off the phone would damage the device irreparably. On top ofthis metal, there was a thermal paste-like material. And on top ofthat, black tape. They really didn't want people looking inside.

I wanted to make sure I didn't damage the components beyond repair,so I didn't take the metal off. So this is as much as I could learnwithout actually breaking the phone. And this is why I couldn't findout if there was an A4 processor—like the iPad's—in this iPhone. I alsocouldn't really identify many parts, because they were hidden under themetal sheath.

Once the guts are out, all you have left is the screen. The back ofthe screen (on the inside) is a shiny mirror, and if you're not carefulwhen taking it apart, you can scratch the face of the phone from theback, like a CD.

If it wasn't obvious by the micro-SIM card, this particular phonemost likely wasn't for Verizon. That's not to say that there isn't aVerizon phone in the works, but I'm pretty sure what I held in my handwas not it.

No, the battery is not user-removable. You have to open the case to get at it.

Twolessons can be learned from the hours and hours it took to disassemblethe phone. First is that everything fits in here like anintricately-designed jigsaw puzzle. This is definitely laid out like afinal product. To think that there's more room left for any componentsfor this case is unreasonable. Unless Apple decides now to gowith a larger case so they can fit more things in there, this is themost that we're going to see this summer. Apple put all thesecomponents in here to test, to make sure that they're available for useif necessary. It's also possible that Apple will take out components atthe last minute, be it due to a contract issue, or a manufacturingproblem, or a cost comparison.

Second, Apple really, really shrunk down their parts to make thisphone thinner. It might weigh 3 grams more than the 3GS, but remember, the battery is 19% larger than before. Everything else is way reducedto fit the smaller case.

After subsequently putting the phone back together, I really feel sorry for the factory workers in China who do this all day.

Why they goin' so hard though?
