NEWS DAVE CHAPPELLE STORMS OFF STAGE Throws Tantrum Over Noisy Crowd

Haha...wut? You must be delusional if you think that that's the case.
Yes, you did. You said that he should be able to handle heckling. Which means in some situations, heckling is justifiable if they comedian shuts them down.
As the other poster who refuted your statement said, no one goes to a show to see how comedians deal with idiots.

Nobody's going to be talking about Dave's top 5 heckler shutting down moments.
So learning how to be the grand master of shutting down hecklers is unnecessary, because that's not what stand up is about.
I don't want you to get offended about what I'm about to ask you, and I'm totally serious when I say it.

Are you autistic?
I am a person who can use logic and will admit when I'm wrong.

You on the other hand...

this is a ridiculous statement.
You're implying that heckling is justifiable.

Heckling is never justifiable.
Guy...Can you PLEASE stop having some sort of adversarial statement for everything I say? It's so annoying.

I didn't imply that heckling is justifiable, BUT it is something that comics should learn to deal with.

inb4 you once again tell ME what I meant
Actually i'm for heckling....comedians can turn moments of heckling into it's own stand alone special.

Heckling comes with the territory of comedy. It's a shame that most hecklers are beligerent drunks but a comedian can just go in on them for the lulz.

Also if your gonna say heckling is not justifiable then you would have to say the same of comedians who target people at comedy shows.

It's all for comedy.
Yes they can, but they don't need to. Nor should they since I would assume that most of the people who paid are there to see the comedian, not hecklers.

We're talking about stand up, not comedy. Stand up is a live performance. Heckling at live performances isn't justifiable. How many times you ever seen someone heckle a play or a musical and the crowd applaud the heckler?

Crowd work and heckling are two different things. If a comedian is going in on a someone in the crowd for an unnecessarily long time, it's apparent that he doesn't have that much material.
I am a person who can use logic and will admit when I'm wrong.
You on the other hand...
That doesn't answer my question.

Also, opinions can't be right or wrong.

Yeah it does.

Opinions can be ridiculous.

For an example, look at your initial post.

Also heckling isn't part of every comedian's forte. Sure a lot of them can do it, but not all of them are good at that thing.

SO why wouldnt security or promoters straight up toss the hecklers out at first sign of trouble? Would the whole crowd turn on Dave? This mob mentality when you're only hurting yourself is beyond pathetic.
It wasn’t a smaller comedy club where security knows how to handle hecklers and such. This is was a large scale comedy festival with your standard rent-a-cops handling security. They wouldn’t know how to deal with a heckler if their lives depended on it.

This... and Dave should've known this because that's just how a bigger festival crowd would act. He's experienced it before and stopped his sets before. Even in his stand-up specials you hear people acting like that, especially his second one. Just like any other comedian who does a special at the height of their fame.

Dave doesn't have to put up with this ****... but he should know how. To an extent. Because that's how crowds naturally are. It's perfectly justified to react the way he did, but as we can see people are gonna make him look bad for it.

It reminds me of another favorite artist of mine, Lupe Fiasco. Dude spends way too much time on Twitter responding to hate tweets and talking down on those people. And he's so defensive so often that it makes him look a little delusional or crotchity. Artists shouldn't have to endure **** like that... but it's gonna happen, and the best way is to brush it off for several different reasons.

plvn watch the videos above to get a comedian's perspective of why your initial statement was ridiculous.

:lol

The best part about this is that you're actually reinforcing my point! Thank you!

Louis CK knows how to deal with hecklers. He doesn't like them, but he knows how to deal with them. That is a skill that I think comics should have. I really don't know how to make it any simpler.

I never said hecklers were an essential part of a comedy show or that they were justified. I never even inferred anything close to that.

That situation was scripted, so not part of the video reinforced your point.

As I said before, developing heckler handling skills isn't a necessary part of being a stand up comedian.

Having good and thought provoking material is what makes a good stand up comedian imo.

Very few people go to a stand up show to see a good heckler handling comedian.

You implied it. Saying that comedians should know how to deal with hecklers implies that hecklers should heckle, so they can be shut down.T

That is what you're implying. How much simpler do I need to make this for you?

Most of the best comedians say that Dave Chapelle is one of the best comedians.

So if ya'll are trying to make it seem like he's so remedial at comedy as to not know how to deal with a heckler, you sound insane.

Did you watch the video? It was constant screaming from the crowd with no intention of hearing what the dude had to say.

Yes...it did. He's telling stories of when he was heckled. I've seen Louis get heckled before. He handles it well.

The rest of your post is just the same tired "you implied" schtick that you always use...I won't even address it.

Well of course no one needs to do anything but the still do don't they?

Umm stand-up is comedy my man....that's what it has been as it's core before people were amused with slapstick and things of that nature.

Comedy and heckling go hand in hand and like I said it's part of the territory....anytime you have a performance that involves talking....chances are you can have a heckler there....who would heckle at a musical? that analogy does not fit so it does not apply.

What about presidential/political rallies? what about people booing someone on stage....I mean that's a form of heckling isnt it?

And heckling is part of "crown work" or what I would say is "crowd control" by the MC because they are the focus of attention. It's their job to exert their control through whatever medium/platform their out there for and "rock the audience" for a lack of better words.

If you think that a comedian going in on someone in the audience means that they don't have material then you need to start watching more stand-up comedy.

As a big fan of comedy and someone who tries to make it to the cellar everytime I come back home I can say without a doubt that a comedian, especially an uber famous one, will have more than their fair share of hecklers, BUT they need to understand the appropriate way to combat that aspect, either through going in on them, asking security to remove them, or like your boy did....just sit there.

If you got rid of heckling at comedy venues your infringing on potential funny moments and crowd interaction with the comedian.

In the OG video Dave was prob at his limit because this has been happening to him for a while....but you gotta adapt. I hate when comedians start feeling themselves and their comedy too much where they get on that 'artform' tip. **** that. Like I said Dave should have came in there with material to **** on those hecklers/city.

I remember I was at the cellar one night and Norton, Koplitz, godfrey, and Robert Kelly ******* all over this dude in the front row from some european country who seems to have just showed up just to heckle.....It was the funniest thing I ever saw. Straight ******* on that dude and it felt so good.

At one point during the meltdown, Chappelle told the crowd -- "I f**ked up when I left my show, you know why? 'Cause my show only has to be 22 minutes of television. I could've went on television, I could've read the phone book for 22 minutes and I would've got $50 million dollars. I shoulda done that sh*t but my ego wouldn't let me.
This ***** says that now . . .

wish we had more Chappelle's Show

Anyways never understood why people who paid to see a show heckle . . . You're the one taking an L if he walks off

Also am I the only one who thinks Dave Chappelle looks like a frog since he got buff

He didn't have a breakdown though, he just chose not to perform for people who were disrespecting him.
The subtle stuff journalists/media does. The majority of people aren't going to click on this article when they see it on whatever news site they frequent.

They are just gonna see "breakdown" or "tantrum" and it will add to the general perception that Chappelle is crazy or on drugs when in reality like you said, he just chose not to perform for people that chose to disrespect him.

They deserved it. Shut up and listen to the guy.

We really missed out man. We missed out on years of his show, and now he'll quit standup again. What a shame.

To all of you saying that the audience deserved it, what about the people in the crowd that paid their hard earned money and had nothing to do with it?

Homie needs to grow some nuts and learn to control the crowd instead of shutting down like a little *****. When I saw him at the height of his fame he basically did the same ****. He's right, he should've stayed on his show and in formats where he can be edited to seem like a genius and a master comic, because as I and other people have seen, dude isn't a pro.

Anybody can take the best parts of a standup routine OR record their best performance and edit it and sell it as their standard, but it's just like with hip hop shows, not many can deliver that night in and night out. That's what separates the best, and he clearly isn't on that level.

Not a knock at his talent, but dude really ****** up his life by not sticking with what worked best for him. Standup ain't his thing.

I went to a show of his back in June in Knoxville. He didn't have a tantrum, but he got side tracked the whole 2 hours and did maybe 15 minutes of material. It was frustrating but I still had some laughs and was glad I went.

Ignorance. There is a balance between heckling and just being flat out rude. All the greats have left the stage when the heckling was more of pure distraction than general excitement. Eddie, Martin, Foxx, Richard, Cosby, Rock, they've all left when they felt disrespected. Its just that peons who don't know anything come out and think something is "wrong with him". His job is to tell jokes, not be annoyed. Heckling is common, but if the line is crossed, you don't perform, simple as that.

you also lose your fans because you don't want to perform because you get heckled and don't know how to deal with it.
