cap aint real

Being able to convert base salary into signing bonus therefore creating cap space is an unreal concept to me. If your pockets were deep enough couldn't you just create a ton of cap space each offseason?

I haven't really watched college football this year.

Is Bijan the same caliber of prospect Saquon was?

You can outrun the cap but never completely escape it. The signing bonus cap hit can be spread in equal amounts over 5 years. Do it enough and it’ll make it hard to go after high value FAs or re-sign your rookies in the future.

And you are shelling out millions of dollars up front. Khan is among the wealthiest owners. Other owners with less net worth have to be a bit more selective. I also believe there are escrow account requirements which may come into play.

The escrow requirements is the rumor why raiders had to trade Khalil Mack rather than paying him

But that’s spreading the money out is why you need to identify your key guys outside of your QB.. and hit at least couple draft picks.. don’t need all pros once you have your guys, obviously would be nice.. but need contributions.. like need to be able to sufficiently support your guys

It doesn’t creat cap space 1:1. I think the cap hit effectively gets larger longer term. Converting into a signing bonus frees up space in the short term

Nah I don’t think so.. but by converting to a bonus you can then spread the cap hits over the length of the contract

That’s also why it matters when or how someone gets released, because you either gotta eat a large cap hit or you can split it

Saquon was just bigger IMO. Both very similar.

Bijan can run and catch. He’s like a mix between Dalvin and Quan. He’s about 215 while Saquon was like 240lbs

I haven’t been paying that much attention since I assume we won’t be drafting him

but basically saw bijan is a better actual HB.. saquon had/has the size and speed on him.. but saquon tried to bounce things outside too much and danced too much

gibbs is the guy I want, since he has a legit chance to hit the 2nd

Ahhh it's the cap hit that gets you. I see now. Thanks for the explanation guys! I wish the NFL salary was more straightforward like the NBA

the nba’s isnt exactly straightforward

but would be interesting to show teams would operate if it was like the nba.. how much luxury tax would be too much given the money the nfl is making.. also how draft picks would be valued

I agree the NBA has it nuances but I just find it easier to comprehend than the NFL's. To be fair, I have studied the NBA's more closely so that could be why. But cap hits, non-guaranteed deals, saving money by cutting players by a certain date, etc. makes the NFL's tricky to me.

Being able to go into the luxury tax to sign players in the NFL would be INSANE. How do you think it might affect the value of draft picks? Would it go up or down? Being able to go over the cap to sign a player you drafted and "Bird Rights" would be an advantage.

value of picks would obviously go up but just how much.. for the bird rights aspects

and then you’d have the trades to get dudes in house before free agency to even to able to afford them

would be interesting.. But biggest thing is how much teams would be willing to pay luxury tax wise when they have guys

but the salary for certain guys are already set in the nba.. whereas you have the franchise tag, but you don’t really want to use that since you can get the guy under that figure through an actual contract
