Realistically where do you think America would be with out slavery and cotton? This is a good point.  I think demographics and environment are important factors.  
Most importantly, though, OP's contrast is based on a particular standard of "development" or "advancement."  Like some others have said, we can't assume that Africans wanted to create the institutions Europeans saw as "advanced," and we can't assume that they wouldn't have been able to if they had worked towards it.  Africa has historically had a great deal of natural resources, including manpower, and has been the site of signfiicant intellectual and technological innovation, though it hasn't focused on industrialization.

also, if you think about it, it seems like races with lighter skin tones (whites, asians) were more advanced/developed than races with darker skin tones (blacks, native americans)

Why are your notions of advancing and progress what they are? So far all this so called industrial and technological advancement has really only created more problems for us to solve and and artificial stress for us to deal with. Our capitalist society is a warped, twisted, delusional form of primitive accumulation that requires large amounts of subordinates so a few certain individuals can uphold their ego-game fantasy.

My idea of progress and advancement is living naturally. That's not to say we shouldn't use science and technology but it should be applied more thoughtfully. Civilization so far has been an ideological mess. People should started attacking their egos rather than each other and then we'll be able to make a better global environment.

Africa right now itself is sitill having problems with corruption. So many corrupt goverments over that its hard for them to make any type of progress. Yes its true many European nations contributed in draining african countries of their resources early on. But it should be up to these countries itself to help build stronger nations.

if the superstorms come and leave us (humanity) fighting to survive in the wilderness the elite will undoubtedly die first and by darwins principles itll be these people that are accustomed to surviving off the land lead the next generation of mankind
