this is why I have been saying that I need to go into a cryo chamber for about a week.

and I have been wondering if the Nets have been getting paid by the Nuggs for their name to be used in this to ante up the Knicks' offer?

I mean come on its publicly known that the nets' name have been called solely for the knicks to make a better offer.
No team wants to be publicly shut down.... IN public multiple times. There must be some kind of return under the table.
These 2 teams both have a common goal. SCREW the knicks!

DEN wants to screw the knicks for what ever reason they didn't want to deal with us @ first.
And we all know the NETS and Knicks are local rivals.

they obviously have some sort of rapport amongst each other, they have been able to reach a deal several times within the last 6 months so there is no animosity between them so why not join forces to screw a team they both hate and a player that wants to there?

I wouldn't even be surprised if the nets come up with at least one more counter move to make the knicks up their ante AGAIN

Maybe I'm thinking conspiracy theory too much and maybe I've been thinking too much about this damn trade deadline.

Real life....

Stop posting them damn sad %#@ Wilson Chandler pics. He should've known the deal and not be so damn naive.

He wasn't good enough to be considered a star player and he didn't play bad enough to be an after thought. He played exactly like a tradeable player does. He wasn't getting signed back here unless it was for cheap. I mean c'mon somebody tell that *@*@* to get a facial expression coach. Start smiling more. *@*@* about to get paid in free agency this summer.

where are you getting this random number from.

What did yall expect though? You have to give up value to get value and melo is top 10 talent in the league. Getting melo in the summer for free was really a pipedream. He wants that extension and wants that money now and waiting for the summer is dumb because nothing is guaranteed. And answer me this wasnt the whole point of the knicks in 2010 summer to get 2 max contracts? They succeeded with amare but failed with lebron. And this is why they are trying to get melo. The deal now is more than fair with gallo chandler curry felton and first round pic but anything more is OD and should be passed. No go to adding more especially moz n fields

true and true.

all you gotta do is look at the barkley trade from 92  to see the immediate impact a top 10 player can bring to a decent team.  at the end of the day, the nba is a stars league, moreso then in any of the other 3 major sports.

i've been emphasizng that guys like gallo and chandler are replaceable while top 10 talent in the league is rare to come by and you do what's needed to acquire that talent.  that gallo, chandler, curry, felton and first round pick for melo and billups is a fair deal,  the knicks get what they want, and denver gets what their trying to get.

i've been saying that getting melo is the top priority for the knicks and they should get him by any means necessary even if it meant trading more then you'd like to trade but if the nuggets gm wants to get overly greedy then keep asking for more then eventually enoughs enough  and if it gets to that,  let him have this whole thing blow up in his face, and if melo ends up saying F it and signs the extension with the nets then i know what his priorities are and i'd see it as him preferring to get paid while taking a step backwards playing on a losing team, especially with everything the nets would be giving up.  hell if that's the case  and if the knicks and nuggets aren't able to reach a deal and the extension is so important to him,  he'd be better off staying with denver then going to the nets because their situation is better then the nets.    denver isn't a bad team,  they were in the conference finals not even 2 years ago and they give the lakers fits,  last season they won 53 games and were only 4 games behind the lakers and 2 games behind dallas for the 2 seed, and if george karl doesn't have the whole cancer thing go down last season they probably finish with a higher seed and do better in the playoffs and this season with all the constant trade rumors and what not going down their still in the thick of things and you know all that trade talk is having some effect on their season. all that being said if the knicks and nuggets can't reach a deal and that money is so important to him,  if he really wants to win and get paid,  he has a much better chance doing that in denver then new jersey,  so if he signs the extension with the nets, that shows you his priority.
Knicks should focus on defense - and getting Dwight Howard - instead of trading for Carmelo Anthony
The Knicks may be better off passing on Carmelo Anthony (r.) and trying for Magic center Dwight Howard (l.) in free agency to pair with All-Star power forward Amar'e Stoudemire (below).
amd_amare-stoudemire.jpg

LOS ANGELES - On his way into the big ballroom at the J.W. Marriott, where he would sit at his own table across from LeBron James, Amar'e Stoudemire didn't exactly deny the hot rumor, the one that had him texting Dwight Howard and lobbying for Orlando's center to come to the Knicks when he's free in 2012.

Stoudemire laughed when told of the rumor, but didn't say it was outlandish or wrong. But if he has been working on Howard, and we all know how players love to talk to each other, almost as much as they love to cash their paychecks, then that move would make a lot more sense than if the Knicks go ahead and make a deal for Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks need a second star, one who can patrol the middle, rebound and close down the lane that is now a freeway when James, Dwyane Wade and everybody else drives the ball against the Knicks.

Anthony can't do that. It's not his game.

Howard can. It's his.

Put Howard in a Knick uniform and then they'll really be going places in the spring. Everyone says Howard's got his eye on the Lakers. But if Stoudemire can talk him into moving to the Garden, they could get to June for years to come, with the right supporting cast.

Put Anthony in a Knick uniform and they'll be more dangerous. But depending on what they'll have to give up, they're still not getting very far in the playoffs this spring. Or in future springs.

You don't outscore people on the road to an NBA title.

Even Stoudemire, who has played in Mike D'Antoni's system when he was surrounded by more talent, in an MVP named Steve Nash and a great third option in Shawn Marion, knows that nobody is hoisting any trophies by simply scoring more than the other guy.

"We have to be able to have the same energy at the defensive end," Stoudemire said Friday at one point. "Sometimes, when you're playing so offensively, you tend to step away from the defensive end. We can't afford to do that if we want to be an elite team."

Rest assured, there will come a point when D'Antoni is going to have to make the Knicks a more formidable defensive team. Can he do it? We don't know, since it's not exactly one of the first 30 entries on his coaching resume. But Anthony is the last player for the Knicks to trade for with that goal in mind.

"Carmelo is at his best when he is the fifth-best player on your team - look at the Dream Team," the great Bill Walton said Friday at a press conference for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. "That's when he's at his best."

Walton is dead-on. Anthony is at his best when he's surrounded by all the right pieces, players who do all the things 'Melo can't be bothered with.

"It's just hard for me to picture him in a Nets jersey," Stoudemire said.

Like everyone else, Stoudemire had heard the latest rumors about the Nets reaching an agreement with Denver. That's what now, three or four trades that Denver and New Jersey have consummated? Perhaps more than anyone, Stoudemire knows that Anthony does not want to commit long-term to the Nets.

"If we did make a move and Carmelo did come to New York, then it's a challenge for us," Stoudemire said. "We'd have to regain our chemistry."

No one would be affected more by Melo's arrival than Stoudemire. He's had the entire stage to himself and has done wonderfully so far. But as much as he says he'd welcome Anthony, he might have a change of heart, once he sees Melo taking more shots then he does or getting the ball in crunch time.

But there seems to be this thought surrounding the Knicks that everything has to be done now, immediately, if not sooner, as the old expression goes. The rebuilding, off to a fine start with Stoudemire, has to be completed in the next five minutes.

According to who? The great Jim Dolan?

By going after Anthony, the Knicks are showing the impatience that was a hallmark of the years when Isiah Thomas ran the team. But Dolan and Thomas, a basketball brain trust if there ever was one, are consumed with Anthony. More than Donnie Walsh.

"Dolan's going crazy to get this done," said one team source.

Why, for more buzz? For more baskets for the Knicks? The Knicks are selling out, so 'Melo can't help the gate.

More to the point, 'Melo can't help, period.

@ This damn Dwight article. I can't wait until we can focus on the here and now.

Always focusing on who's coming next. The "Who?! I dunno, dawg." Title was better. Go back to that.

How would Knick fans feel about getting Gerald Wallace and avoid getting Carmelo Anthony. So far I suspect Gerald Wallace is cheap because if the rumors about the Lakers offering Ron Artest made MJ think about it a little I think it would only take one starter and maybe a pick for him. Wallace provides plenty of things that the Knicks need and he's an athletic freak. Then you have some cap flexibility once other free agents come about in the next few years.

I would be interested in seeing what kind of smaller deals we could get done.

Plan B type trades...

Not necessarily back-up players, but something like Vietishi just mentioned for a Gerald Wallace type player. All-Star caliber.

I like Gerald Wallace. Grat defender, rebounder and can definitely fit will in the up and down tempo.
