Been busy over the weekend as well.

Looked like the offense decided they were going to take Labor day off like the rest of us yesterday. We are still in a good position, we just have to beat theteams we are supposed to beat and Beckett needs to get his +**+ together. I cant fully blame him yesterday because 3 ER in through 7 isnt terrible but theoffense didnt pick him up yesterday like we should have. O well on to Baltimore, hopefully we can get on a nice little win streak going into the homestand withBaltimore, Tampa, and the Angels.

And not that im happy to see a guy hurt. But it looks like Tampa is gonna be done since Pena just went out for season with two broken fingers. He got hit witha CC fastball in the first game of the double header yesterday.

yeah lights out for tampa...freakin' texas wont stop lurking tho.

lets get back on track...two with the O's

David Hernandez, RHP (4-6, 4.54)@ Clay Buchholz, RHP (4-3, 4.40)
Jason Berken, RHP (4-11, 6.07) @ Paul Byrd, RHP (1-1, 7.56)

Yea we could use a little help from Cleveland. They have an easy week or so with Cleveland, Seattle and Oakland. I think if we can get through this homestandwith the lead in the Wild Card we will be good for the rest of the season.

Its all gonna come down to who can beat the teams they are supposed to beat. The schedules are pretty even but they have 7 more games with the Angels. Sowe'll see.

yeah thats a good point. hopefully we can just take care of our business.

good to see beckett have a halfway decent showing yesterday even with the loss...we NEED him

Real good game. Buckholtz did his thing. And it was good to see the bats come back from their Labor Day weekend break.

KLJ tell ya boys thanx for nothing. We are gonna hav to handle the Rays this weekend. And then We should get a first round playoff matchup preview with theAngels.

Well if you pansies hang on it might be another ALCS match up since the Angels are afraid to beat you guys in the Playoffs

maybe y'all should cut us some slack in the last sept series then
laugh.gif

nah basically it's all on beckett...if beckett and lester are both firing on all cylinders...we have a good shot at making the playoffs and getting to theALCS

Yea we are gonna have to take care of Tampa and the Angels in our series at the end of this week and start of next week. Because after that we dont play teamsover 500 other than the Yankees. I predict that our clinching game should be against the Yankees, hopefully earlier. But another Sox/Yanks ALCS? Cant sayI'd hate that.

sweet win tonight.

vmart coming thru late

billy wagner has been the anti-gagne so far, keep it up dude

papelbon nailing down the 4 out save...always nice to see

on to the rays....we can basically bury them or keep them in the race here:

James Shields, RHP (9-10, 4.02) @ Jon Lester, LHP (12-7, 3.44)
Wade Davis, RHP (0-0, 1.29) @ Josh Beckett, RHP (14-6, 3.87)
Matt Garza, RHP (7-9, 3.85) @ BOS Clay Buchholz, RHP (5-3, 3.92)

Yea we should be able to buy the Rays this weekend. Hopefully we dont have the usual trouble with them. And we're gonna need a little help from Seattleunlike Cleveland who just lied down like a dead fish.

I like the matchups for this series. And they showed during the game yesterday that Dice K pitched I think 7 innings only giving up one run in his last rehabstart earlier in the day. So he should be back for the Angels series.

^ word didn't know that about dice k...but thats good to hear. itd be nice to get a good dice k back.

I guess it was 6 2/3. Still good to see him have a strong outting. We could really use him for the playoff push.

Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed 6 2/3 effective innings Wednesday in a final rehab start with Single-A Salem.
He allowed only three hits, one walk and one run while striking out seven. Dice-K should rejoin the Red Sox early next week. This will help the Red Sox cover for Tim Wakefield, who is unlikely to start until next weekend at the earliest. Matsuzaka has been on the disabled list since June 21 with a mild right shoulder strain. Sep. 9 - 9:58 pm et
Dice-K set to return from DL
Daisuke Matsuzaka is expected to start for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels, returning after three months on the disabled list and a shaky start that all but sidetracked his 2009 season.

Matsuzaka

Matsuzaka, who went 18-3 for Boston in 2008, is 1-5 with a 8.23 ERA in eight starts this season and had an April visit to the disabled list.

He went back on the 15-day DL after his June 19 start, in which he allowed six runs in four innings, and was moved to the 60-day DL on July 31 with shoulder problems.

In Matsuzaka's fourth minor-league rehab start, on Wednesday for Class-A Salem, he went 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run and striking out seven. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the team was "encouraged" by the results, according to Boston-area media reports.

"Sounded like he held his velocity, had some depth to the slider later in the game as he accumulated some pitches," Francona said. "Again, it's [Class A] Winston-Salem, but pitching good is better than pitching bad, and we wanted him to get deep into the game and compete a little bit.''

Matsuzaka's return could add pitching depth at an opportune time for the Red Sox, who are facing uncertainty in the rotation beyond Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz.

Tim Wakefield already has spent time on the DL because of his balky lower back and had a cortisone shot earlier this month. Paul Byrd is 1-1 in three starts, but hadn't pitched all season until signing a minor-league contract with the Red Sox in early August.

And some paranoid Yankee fans think this was done on purpose to give the Sox an edge since the Yankees still had to finish their game on Friday night.

Yes, there are several Yankee fans who think there is a MLB conspiracy to favor the Red Sox...some of these people make me ashamed to be a Yankee fan
