**Official 2010 NY knicks pre-season thread** 10/6 vs T-wolves (PARIS) 2PM MSG/NBA TV

Sources tell Ken Berger of CBS Sports that the Knicks will have a very difficult time being able to get the NBA league office to approve an arrangement that allows Isiah Thomas to formally consult with the Knicks while retaining his position as head coach at Florida International University.

NBA team officials are not allowed to have the level of pre-draft contact and regular interaction with college players that a college coach like Thomas is required to as part of his job.

It will likely be found to violate the NBA's rules to permit this kind of dual role for team personnel.

If the Knicks are permitted to retain Thomas' services in such a manner, it could open the floodgates on NBA teams hiring members of college teams in order to give those NBA teams an inside track on college players.

"I think it's going to blur the line to such a degree that teams are going to say, 'OK it's a competitive disadvantage if we don't have a guy,'" a team basketball operations official said. "So they're going to go get guys, whether they're low-level coaches or whatever. All these teams and executives are going to say, 'Hold on, this is a different message you're sending us.'"

Berger also refutes reports that Donnie Walsh threatened to quit when Thomas was hired. Berger calls these reports "not entirely true."

Sources say that Dolan first discussed bringing Thomas back with Walsh, who indicated he wouldn't object to Thomas returning in the consulting role he held before accepting an offer from FIU. But Walsh made it known that he did not want Thomas having a full-time position in the daily operations of the Knicks.

Don't get why people are making such a big deal about this. Donnie's still running the team...

"Street cred" with players aside, Thomas has NO business being affiliated with this franchise,

11+ mill in a sexual harrassment case and subsequent bad PR, the losing seasons, hell even getting an over the hill Steve Francis was bad enough for me...

You give him an inch, he'll take a mile. Next thing, God forbid Donnie has a health issue then Thomas is gonna be in the front office like he's running the whole *#!..

This is what I mean. It's decisions like this that make the Knicks look like a joke. I've said it before and I'll say it again, in my heart of hearts I'm a Knick fan, but they make it impossible to like them. The problem is the owner James Dolan. He's an idiot. He does not know how to run a franchise (except for into the ground). His constant contract blunders coupled with terrible drafts for years has made this franchise irrelevant. He's stubborn. It seems like if you suggest a good idea, he'll decide against it because he didn't come up with the idea. Such as, please don't hire Isaiah Thomas back in ANY capacity after his antics cost MSG $11 million. Yeah they got Amare, that was half a step forward, and now they took 5 steps back hiring this idiot. Smh....

The organization had made so much progress, but is now walking a very thin line here. Like MayhemMonkey said, it feels like a dark shadow or cloud is looming just beyond the city limits (just across the Hudson haha). As if it wasn't there before, I have a resurrected deep-seeded hate towards Dolan for turning this franchise into what it has become.

I don't care what anyone says or what kind of positive spin will brought on to this but I don't want Isiah anywhere %##%!%# near this franchise. This makes us look like a joke of a franchise hiring back the same man who ruined us in any capacity what so ever.

And Happy Bday Dub.
