You posted this about a week ago:
A week later, all of those numbers have dipped, the advanced numbers have substantially dipped, like I said they would. Then you posted this
Usage is 32% right now, and all of those advanced metrics don't hold a candle to Durant's '13-14 year when he was on that same usage.
Those numbers will probably continue to drop too as that usage remains in the high 30s.
So, you're comparing only KD's MVP season to Kawhi this year?
Of course they're not going to look as good to one season KD won MVP in. But, look at his numbers in comparison to every year outside of that one:
2011-12: 4.7 OBPM / 0.5 DBPM / 26.2 PER / .610 TS% / 31.3 USG
2012-13: 6.2 OBPM / 1.4 DBPM / 28.3 PER / .647 TS% / 29.8 USG
2015-16: 6.3 OBPM / 0.9 DBPM / 28.2 PER / .634 TS% / 30.6 USG
2016-17: 6.0 OBPM / 0.0 DBPM / 29.4 PER / .668 TS% / 28.4 USG
I took out KD's MVP season and the 2014-15 season when he was injured.
Now, compare those numbers to what Kawhi has right now even after the drop off (and this was after 3 very bad games in his last 5):
2016-17: 6.5 OBPM / 1.1 DBPM / 28.1 PER / .595 TS% / 32.1 USG
He still has room for his OBPM to fall a little further and it would still be right on par with KD. KD is killing it efficiency wise, but then you have to look at Kawhi's defensive numbers compared to KD's. Not as high as usual, but I'm sure he's going to finish higher KD's career average.
I just think its a little closer than what people make it seem. KD is a great player, but to act like Kawhi isn't anywhere close considering he's 3 years younger is where you lose me.
Let's not also forget what has changed over his last 5 games. His touches have been limite. He's only had the ball for 8.7% of his court time over the last 5 games compared to 11.2% during the first six games. Lately, most of his points have come on spot ups, cuts and in transition, which is how the Spurs have used in the past. A lot different than now. So, all of that plays a factor in his numbers.
