2 hours ago I had no idea 'posse' could be offensive.
CONTEXT

The word posse isn't offensive. Referring to a group of people who have built a company around handling and maintaining the business dealings of a billionaire (who just happen to be black) athlete as a "posse" is offensive. These are weed carriers. These aren't Lebron's boys from back home who don't do anything but drive his cars and spend his money. They put in real work. It's a respect thing.

Debra Lee is the CEO of BET. If she walked into a board room meeting with Phil Jackson...do you think he'd call her team of workers a "posse"?

My bad.

Lol PJ wild for that. I can definitely see why mav took offense to that.

It's so demeaning for someone like Phil (who's white and old) to call Lebron's boys a "posse" when they're so much more.

Would've preferred Phil to say "partners" or "advisors"

Dude is a smart *** schmuck who feels he knows it all

Don't feel he was being racist but he definitely wanted to take a cheap shot at them for whatever reason

Great coach but crappy general manager and president

Can't wait till he takes his old carcass and huge ego out of the garden and back to LA

Exactly. :lol

We been watching Phil Jackson be slick with words when it comes to officials, his players. This man is smart. He ain't racist but we was tryna belittle them.

Lebron is literally the biggest star in American sports.
Don't undermine what they've built, by intentionally referring to them as a posse.
Lebron doesn't have a counterpart in the NBA, but if he did and he was white, would Phil call them a posse?
FOH! I don't think Phil's racist, just a **** head.

Phil is an old white dude that has accomplished way too much to the point where he feels he has the right to comment on any & everything.
Point being if he was trying to put any positive light on those men he wouldn't of chose the term 'posse' but seeing as the story is about Bron and his "boys" getting their way thats what he chose

Its like a slight diss. If he respected their business acumen he wouldn't of chose that. You don't see a group of wall street bankers walking down the street and say "hey look at that posse of bankers"
But I am pretty sure theres a thin line between friend and business partner.

At the end of the day Bron is a Diva & Phil is just another empowered white dude that feels he has the power to say and do what he wants. As the world turns....

Ps are lawdog and the other homies still here?

Join us in the Clipper thread. Plenty of space :lol

Somebody find MJShoeFanatic
Only time I see MJShoeFanatic is on Twitter tweeting about his Zodiac. :lol

:rollin what's his twitter? I gotta hit him up. I remember a few years ago I ran into him at a Clippers game. He somehow recognized me from my social media accounts :lol. Dude is like 6'7 but the funniest thing is he really is the same way in person. He was talking **** to passers-by wearing the opponent's jersey. Yelling at them :rollin

This was when we won 30 games too.

yeah man growin kinda tired of this old man talking about everything he got nothing to do with tbh

Folks gonna be tight if he replaced "posse" w/ "crew?"

Again...I think it was a backhanded statement b/c he doesn't respect Lebron's business associates, but I don't believe there was any ounce of racism meant by means of his comment.
Does it really matter his "intent" if he's cognizant of what using that word there means? Like someone else said, I doubt that he would call Porzingis' guys a posse.

And why doesn't he respect Lebron's business associates? It's been clear since they got in the game that people didn't respect them because they were young, black dudes who broke the mold of the typical high power agents/businessmen in the space.

Or nepotism.

Just a backhanded remark. Nothing more, nothing less.

And a backhanded remark can still have racial bias in it. He wouldn't have used posse to describe a group of guys surrounding a white player.

That's kinda what you do in interviews, you state opinions

Unless you're Pop, then you just act like an *** and everyone acts like it's adorable.

Still too low but it's a lot better than it was. This is probably going to kill South American basketball

Doubt it I know being involved in overseas leagues these d league players are Paid around 20-50k a month so they'll still be earning a lot more overseas

Remember when Phil said they had a Brokeback Mountain game because there was so much penetration then later apologized to all the gays and horses he might have offended

Of course it can. However, you're making an assumption. Unless there is something in Phil's track record that shows him slighting folks based off of the color of their skin, I'll chalk this one up to him just being an *******.

I think there's a sensitivity on Carter's part because he's probably been slighted numerous times over his professional life due to the golden-ticket he had. You can probably say the same thing about anyone who has benefited from nepotism. It's probably a touchy subject for Carter, made 10000x worse due the fact that arguably the best coach in the history of the league is taking shots at you.

Honestly, were folks this sensitive during Lebron's first run in Cleveland when all the reports (Woj bombs) came out regarding how Lebron's crew were running ****? I highly doubt it.

It's a backhanded remark from Phil. Phil, being Phil...cause he has a history of coming outta pocket with some of the things he said. However, this is not...at least to me, racial. Even in context.

Y'all have to be joking about this posse comment being a racially charged insult?

Right?

quiet steven adams :lol

its not racially charged just a cheap shot. maverick got butthurt so he wants to make it about race

entourage, posse, groups, boys, people, its all the same meaning when you talk slang

nobody ever made it about race. pro athletes have had entourages since the begining of time

Yup

LeBron James explained his problem with Phil Jackson's "posse" label referring to him and his business associates: "To use that label, and if you go and read the definition of what the word 'posse' is, it's not what I've built over my career. It's not what I stand for. It's not what my family stands for. And I believe the only reason he used that word is because it's young African-Americans trying to make a difference.
